Lap band or sleeve? Why did you get revision to sleeve?
allielee replied to okaykay's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
This thread needs to just be deleted. It's become aggressive. Really this is the kind of thread where I just start to chose not to come visit bariactric pal . @@2muchfun I pray your band doesn't fail you and one day you are not on the end I am. It's humbling to say the least. I applaud you for your pro band stance but berating (yes in my opinion is what you have done is not helping anyone) I am not trying to attack you at all but help you to see that maybe just taking a breathe and realizing the ones you are confronting are the ones who's bands failed. I am sure you would be devastated if that happened to you. If you were doing so amazing and bam it fails. It would devastate you.. Well maybe you can see from their point of view.. Compassion goes along way. We all want the same thing how we get there really doesn't matter the only reason I ever speak of my bad experience is when people are asking band choice . From June 2008 to October 2014 I was super band promoter! I was a band superstar. It then failed and I had to be revised. Do you see that why I say hey maybe take a look at the stats.. See all your options.. Especially if you are self pay my initial $18,500 for my band I thought was a good deal it obviously is not. The $28,900 I just paid for revision to rny and removal of my band I pray will be worth it. You have no idea what can happen tomorrow or 5 years from now. I'm hoping you are still happy with your band. That would have been my ultimate dream to never had to have another surgery.. So maybe just a little compassion and understanding could go a long way.. -
Update: I do not enjoy alcohol at all anymore. It hits me hard and not in a good way. It's not worth it to me. I enjoyed it a couple times but now it turned a bad corner.. Gives me headaches and makes me feel hot and queasy with just a couple sips .. I'm over it lol I guess I'm the new DD around here lol

Lap band or sleeve? Why did you get revision to sleeve?
allielee replied to okaykay's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was a huge band supporter, banded in 2008 lost all my weight in 9 months stayed at goal for almost 6 years no problems.. The bam I started having major issues, couldn't keep anything down, for a complete unfill still vomiting.. I followed all the band rules for 6 years! No pasta, no rice no bread no soda.. Never ate more than a cup of food at a time I didn't drink with meals etc.. My band failed. I was devastated. It didn't slip and it wasn't anything to do with me. It had eroded. I still am super upset I paid $18,500 for that damn thing. Yes it helped me to lose the weight I just wish I had had bypass first. I had to be revised from band to bypass on May 21, 2014 and honestly it's been amazing! I haven't had any dumping at all and I am healthy. If you think your band will stick with you I pray you are right but out of the 5 friends of mine who had it I was the only one who's lasted over 5 years. @@2muchfun I understand your eagerness and joy with your band I used to be you. I pray you don't have issues as soooooo many do. I honestly only know of a handful who still have a lapband that is still doing great over 6 years with no issues and I only know of them from these type of posts. -
I've had coffee since day 2 just one cup a day though.

When they wheeled me up to my room my roomie had about 8 people in there, one guy was laying on my "bed" with his shoes on.. My husband immediately said to the nurse this is NOT ok, there are to many people in there and they were all really loud. He asked if I could have a private room and they obliged.. I was revision from band to rny but only stayed one night. Left next morning .. It was the easiest surgery I ever had. So glad my hubby put his foot down lol I was up walking within an hour after surgery and walked every second I could.

How Long Did You wait After Band Removal Before Revising?
allielee replied to blackonynx's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thank you!! I hope you have an easy time as well when is your surgery? -
I'm 10&1/2 weeks out and my doc says wine is fine. I buy skinny vine moscato low calorie, low sugar and carbs. I usually only have a glass or two .. I do get tipsy quicker so I never drive. I don't like to drink like I did before though.

How Long Did You wait After Band Removal Before Revising?
allielee replied to blackonynx's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had mine revision from band to bypass done the same day.. May 21, 2014. I'm down 37 pounds which I'm super stoked about especially since I started with a lower BMI. It was honestly the easiest surgery I ever had. I stayed in hospital less than 24 hours. I felt great and still do! Oh Man is rny easier than the band! I have had no dumping issues and can eat pretty much anything I just get full super fast. I haven't thrown up once either!! Love my bypass! -
I stopped counting calories, is that bad?
allielee replied to Hellbent's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I didn't when I had my lapband and I lost all my weight and I don't anymore that I have RNY I find for me counting calories was making me food obsessed. I find I am losing and doing awesome without counting anything. I feel great as well. I do track my weight on mfp which has been amazing for me to understand stalls and be able to see the progress I am making. Counting just made me constantly think of food. I don't really have hunger now and just make sure I eat 3 times a day. It's working for me -
Eating out?
allielee replied to Christopher Lazuka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was able to have regular foods at 4 weeks out and I go out to restaurants a lot. I usually order an appetizer ( shrimp cocktail, chicken or ahi) or I do sometimes get a side salad and ask for them to add some type of protein and they usually charge just a little bit extra. Or I split a meal with a friend. I haven't had any issues at all I am RNY and 10 weeks out. Going out tonight for dinner -
Really? Dang that was harsh! I have raised two children successfully, both went to college, never arrested, never once in trouble and my kids would ransack the cupboards in the short time I took a shower. Do you even have children?? Lol Making comments like this is not ok in my opinion..

I had salad at 4 weeks out.. No issues. I prefer baby spinach as my "lettuce" but I always have a protein with it. For dressing I went to the store and examined all the dressing lol took about an hour but bought 10 different types that have low sugar.. I so far have loved a couple of them. I prefer not light dressings especially since I may have just 1 tablespoon. It's worth it to me to have a yummy dressing than one full of chemicals to make it low fat or light. A couple extra calories is no biggie to me lol

What foods made you dump?
allielee replied to Lthomas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't thrown up or had diarrhea from food but fried food makes me feel yucky.. I haven't had more than 10 grams of sugar at a time and have had no issues. Love my RNY! -
Congratulations!!!! Awesome job! When I lost my hundred I bought a 100 charm from Brighton to commemorate it.. I love to wear it and it helps me to stay focused lol keep up the great work! Buy yourself something to commemorate it!!
-
Congratulations!!! I am 8 and a 1/2 weeks out and doing awesome too!!! I started with a low bmi and was a revision but I am down 35 & 1/2 pounds! Less than 30 to go! I love my rny!! Wish I had done it first instead of lapband. Keep posting about your experiences. It's so nice to see a positive post!!!

Dairy Queen has a vanilla orange bar that is delicious and it only has 60 calories, 0 fat and drum roll 4 grams of sugar!!! It is so good and big! They come in a box from the freezer at DQ. Really satisfies my sweet craving.

I have mthfr and can't take folic acid at all. Was wondering if anyone else found a vitamin for bypass that doesn't have folic acid in it? Such a pain!!!!!

Hit a stall 3 wks out. GRRRRR!
allielee replied to mi75's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Every stall is frustrating no matter how far out you are. We all fear this surgery (doesn't matter which one) won't work for us.. We all fear we will fail.. I know I will have stalls some will be a couple days and some will be weeks even months. It is scary and frustrating to not see the scale move but if you are following your program and moving your body it will eventually start to move.. I hold my breathe every morning when I get on the scale knowing it could be the same or down or even up. I have to weigh every day for me it motivates me no matter what it says to either keep doing what I'm doing or shake things up. I have been a successful lapband story and now I am on track to be a successful rny story. For me success is getting to a healthy weight. What that number is really doesn't matter as much as how I feel at that number. Good luck to everyone and know that everyone will have this happen to them. You are NOT alone and you will lose again -
band reposition vs revision?
allielee replied to f1stborn2014's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was revised from band to rny same day on May 21, 2014. My band eroded. I was at goal when it eroded... I chose the revision based on these facts: 1. I was self pay and didn't want to pay to have another band placed and have it erode 6 years later like this one did 2. I have a blood clotting disorder and only wanted to have 1 final wls surgery 3. Seeing so many revisions from band or sleeve to rny made me choose rny , again only wanted 1 final surgery. 4. My doc said he is steering away from bands because of the high failure rate after 5 years. So those are my reasons for revisions... Getting information is key to making the right choice for you.. Oh and rny is soooo much easier than lapband was for me!!! I have no sliming, no throwing up, no having to look for a bathroom before I eat to be sure I can get there.. I have had no dumping, I eat whatever I want but I still stay away from rice pasta white bread and soda same as I did with the band.. I don't feel stuck either.. Wish I had done rny first! I love it. -
I make an awesome pizza with a whole wheat low carb tortilla.. Turkey pepperoni and low fat mozz with a sprinkling of tastefully simple Italian garlic bread seasoning! So yummy!!! I do out a tsp of pizza sauce as well and sometimes add onions and peppers.. I can usually eat half a tortilla. I pop it in my toaster oven before adding toppings to crisp it a bit then add toppings and pop it back in until it's all melty.. Yum!

I'm 5'5" , 370# which surgery?
allielee replied to MichelleTN's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I disagree DS I think all the wls are bashed equally. I agree that we should only be talking about our PERSONAL experiences with the wls . Not others experiences. I have had lapband and rny .. Each has there own pros and cons. Each work and don't work. No one needs to get upset when the choice they choose isn't the choice someone else chooses. I was very successful with my lapband and would still be a huge advocate for it if it hasn't eroded. I'm sure I would have had success with being sleeved as well. I am self pay and after seeing the sleeve to rny revision board decided I didn't want to take the chance I would have issues with GERD. Each wls is awesome and each has issues. The point is talking about your personal experience to help others make the choice that is best for them. It's all good people we are all working towards the same goal to be healthy! -
I find I have no problems as long as it's less than 10 grams of sugar.. That is the amount my doc said is ok. I had rny 8&1/2 weeks ago. Fatty foods make me feel super ill. I can't tolerate mayo or butter which for me is a good thing!!!! Down 35 pounds and my bmi is 31 almost to overweight bmi woohoooooo!!!!
