    Canada to Mexico for WLS

I have. On May 15th 2014 I went to TJ and had a sleeve performed by Dr. Illan. I am approx. two and a half months out and have lost 58 lbs. I now exercise daily, and have tried eating almost everything now. I am so happy with my decision to go to Mexico, and my choice of surgeon. Feel free to ask me anything, I'm here to help others now
  2. Staff very professional, and the doctors and surgeon superb. When I returned home my PCP was nothing but supportive and has done complete metabolic panel, waiting results now. But I did get kicked out of the weight wise program. There is a Bariatric Revisional Surgery Clinic in Edmonton should you have complications. Also, Alberta Health care has access to Dieticians and nurses and all that through the primary care network, so there is a ton o A ton of free support for us when we return. If you have complications support will be there for you

  4. I am Canadian! And I had my sleeve surgery by Dr. Illan with Baja Bariatrics in TJ Mexico on May 15, 2014. I am just over two months post op and have lost 55 lbs! I was in the weight wise program in Edmonton for a year and a half. I took lots of courses on weight management, met with exercise specialists, nurses, dieticians, Psychologists, etc. but I never got to meet with the surgeon. I finally got sick of waiting and felt I had got all I was gonna get from the program, and self paid in Mexico. The hospital was nice, sta

    Dr. Illan

I am just over two months post op and can't recall when I last felt this great! Dr. Illan was amazing. I have now lost nearly 55 lbs and the only regret I have is that I didn't do this sooner. Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
  6. I notice that almost everyone who posts anything not in support of your opinions here "gets hammered". The poster was probably just bracing for accusations of having an affair with the coordinator, or being a groupie or such. Please let's all be respectful of each other's comments.
  7. I had my surgery on May 14th with Dr. Illan. I am now 2 months post op today. I have not been this healthy and energetic in 20 years. I have now lost over 50 lbs, and have been very physically active. I exercise daily including things like aqua aerobics, tennis, kayaking, walking, running, strength training, and swimming. My incisions are all healed up, still quite pink, but no uglier than my stretch marks from having children. I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. Illan, the entire Baja Bariatrics team, and the florence hospital and staff. I highly recommend them, and if you have any questions you can find me on Team Illan as Tammy Ivana-Bethin. I do not come on this forum often, as I am too busy and truely love my Team Illan support, that's where I will be. And Happy, thanks for sharing this Thread, I hope it helps many people join our losers bench!
  8. Alex I am dumb founded to see you chime in here and not completely remove a post from this forum that is so slanderous to Dr. Illan's company
  9. Not sure what you were trying to post about Omar here. Were you a former patient of Dr. Illan as well?
  10. From all I have read, Dr. Illan is an excellent surgeon. The ladies are attracted to Omar because he is so good to them, and in a few instances he has acted on that and engaged in a relationship. He then ended the relationships and in one case the lady was upset. Am I missing something here? Adult consentual relationships should have no bearing on choosing a surgeon or company. I am a patient of Dr. Illan, and Omar was my patient coordinator. I'm a 40 year old female and went alone. Never once did I feel unsafe, and I was alone with Omar on several occasions. He did not ever make an unwanted sexual move on me, and was nothing but kind and caring. I am not an Omar groupie like others have alluded here, but I feel the need to defend him because he has became my friend since surgery. I can only speak of my experience, and hope people reading this thread will take my comments along with Susan's and come to their own conclusions. I am only a patient, not some super bariatric online poster or ex-coordinator, but my info here is just as valid.
  11. Just to clarify ... It is not the doctor that engaged in a supposed relationship, but the patient coordinator. A patient coordinator does not take an oath like a physician or therapist and thus would not lose a license for getting in a relationship with a patient. If this coordinator did develop a relationship with these ladies and it ended, there is no harm done, it was consentual from what I have read.
  12. I completely agree with Sherry. I do not know why Bariatric Pal would allow you to post slanderous comments. Defamation of character is a serious offense and this forum should be removing this post of your Susan.
  13. I was nervous as heck. Booked with one TJ surgeon and changed my mind, and went with another. I chose Dr. Illan for so many reasons. I can't tell you anything about your surgeon, but I can tell you that if you can't or haven't talked to at least 3 or four people that had surgery with her I would be scared too. Dr. Illan's patients have a closed Facebook site which gave me the reassurance I really needed. Maybe your surgeon has the same. I am 5 days post-op, and very confident I made the right decision for me. Feel free to inbox me if you have any questions, as I was in your exact shoes a few weeks ago!

    5 days out... too nervous?

My surgery was on May 14th. I'm 5 days out and haven't started protein yet. I am getting 32 oz of water and 16 oz of vitamin water in per day now. Still on broth and yogurt and jello. Just take a few drinks of your protein, and take it slow. Good luck
