    New here...what now?

Yeah, i am leaning towards vsg, but open to suggestions. I guess if I choose something else the screen name would have to go lol. From everything I am reading, I am from the south, next to the NC border. I don't think the band is for me. I am 5ft 4, 265lbs, so that leaves me with bypass or sleeve. How bad is the mal-absorption as with the bypass, what about dumping syndrome?

Thank you for this post! When you say that you saw a counselor to peel back your layers of overeating, what exactly did you to? I feel like overeating is one of the main issues that I have. I just mindlessly eat for no reason sometimes. I know that I need help, I don't know why food is such a mental struggle for me. Are there any surgeries that help specifically with the mindless eating aspect of things?

How much did you pay if you don't mind sharing? And what are the requirements for surgery in Mexico? What is the follow up like?

Jamilyne thanks for the info. So $200 for a fill? From what I have read isn't a fill just injecting some saline, why is that $200? I might be underestimating the costs of this process. The vsg is the surgery I am leaning towards, can anyone tell me what the aftercare is like with it?

Well thats part of my issue, I don't have insurance. I will have to pay cash. What kind of a payment plan were you able to get?

I did pretty much the same as chasingadream. Went to my primary who referred me to my surgeon. You can also research local hospitals and see which specialize in bariatrics. They should have a list of surgeons. From there you can attend a seminar and inquire about self pay. Typically they will offer payment plans and the price is somewhat reduced. Best of luck. Do seminars cost anything to attend and are they through a certain surgeon or can you find some that aren't?

I am not sure what surgery yet. My biggest problem is that i don't have insurance or a regular doctor. I am healthy other than my weight, don't really get sick, so i have not been to a doctor in years.

What is the process for a person that doesn't have insurance or a regular doctor? Besides my weight I don't have any problems so I don't go to the doctor very much.

What do you do when you don't have insurance or a regular doctor? I don't really have any medical problems other than being fat and I don't get sick often. When I do get sick I go to a walk in clinic but I haven't been to one in a couple of years.
