Those of you who are banded, do you exercise?
Dragonwillow replied to sleepyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Not to use an excuse, but I have hypothyrodism. I think it makes any weightloss HARDER. At the gym yesterday when I logged into the machine it was my 453rd session. So exercise defiently isn't the reason the weight tends to come off slower for me. I eat around 1000-1200 calories...and tend to maintain at that. Just had a fill and I lost several pounds while doing the liquid thing. Yesterday I increased my calories a bit because I was feeling dizzy and was unable to finish my workout. Today....I show a .5 gain. I know I know probally water, but it just seems so freaking unfair. Pudding pie, have they checked your thyroid? It has alot to do with how your metablolism works. I really want to get my metabolism checked but haven't found anyone locally to do it. -
Congrats!!!! I need to make you a little goody bag of protein shakes to try like I did Jill (even though she slept on the couch and didn't come to the mall LOL). Hopefully you will be starting your liquid diet soon!!!!!!!! Gotta let us know as soon as you get a date! Kim get to work on that asap! LOL

We had the art reception to go to for Karah. If anyone is downtown they can go to spirit square in the wachovia room and see Karah's work. She got selected to represent her school, out of all 5 german kindergarten classes her work was chosen. Course her head is about to explode with all the attention LOL. Should have seen her dressed up walking downtown tonight. When she found out we had to walk from the parking deck she made a face. Kristen says "Artists like to walk" she says "i'm not that kind of artist". Kim I'm not sure I'm getting enough...had to cut my workout short earlier because I was dizzy. So going to add another Protein drink. Problem....I have to remember to eat now. I kinda hope this lasts. I don't think I've ever not constantly thought about what I get to eat next! Well need to go put the little diva in the shower!

Geez Kathy way to make me feel better! LMAO

It wasn't that bad really, the movie helped break up the time. By the time all the teenagers met up (there were 8 of them), and I let Karah spend the money that was burning a hole in her pocket at the icing store, it was time for the movie. After the movie, shopped at childrens place until the girls called and said they were ready to go to unos for dinner. The charm I bought for my bracelet says "i love sushi"....I love it. I have an anchor I hope I can "earn" before the cruise. I looked up my soup...I did good, for what I ate it was only about 140 calories, and 7.5 Protein. The mocha thingy...so bad that they have NO nutrional info on it....I looked up what a mocha frap is at starbucks to get an idea...eek 420 calories.

The biggest reason why I'm glad I got a band rather than RNY
Dragonwillow replied to vluckey's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hmm, my reasons. Well my mother had a type of bypass surgery...lost a ton of weight, got all types of medical issues and regained all her weight, She was in the 300's at least when she passed in her early 50's. As long as I can recall, I've never seen my mom make good food choices....some of the bad habits I myself picked up. Just recently I had my 6 month blood work done. Some of my Vitamins were seriously low and are being addressed. I wonder, if I had RNY would I even have made it to 6 months without having to be hospitalized or worse. If my Vitamin D dropped to 14 when it should be somewhere areound 32-100 with no malabsorbtion issues, what would it have been with. My Iron is also low along with B1. It just makes me thankful I chose the right surgery for me. -
I'm Offically 100 pounds down!!!!
Dragonwillow replied to Jammin & Losin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Way to go, I can't wait to say I've did that too. And wow, in just over a year? Awesome work! -
We just got home. We saw stick it. It was a really cute movie. Bought Karah two outfits at childrens place for 20 bucks. I love that store. Bought me another charm for my bracelet...down 45lbs now. I did have a mocha chill which I regreted as soon as I took the first sip, it was way too sweet, but I drank it, during the movie. Bad me. But all I ate before going to the mall was a yogurt, and then everyone met up (kristen's friends group) at UNO's for dinner. I was good there, ordered soup...the whitebean and chicken chili , and ate like half a bowl, have the rest for lunch tomorrow. I think I'm done for the day...so even though that mocha thing probally had 500 calories or more....I didn't blow it TOO bad hopefully. NO popcorn at the movies....that was a tough one...but wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be.

Thanks Donna. Hubby told me to go ahead and download it last night but I wanted to hear that someone else used it and liked it first. I'll buy it today. The scale is finally moving again for me and I want to keep it going.

Anyone bought the pc version of fitday? Whats better about it. I have a nutrion log I keep on paper...and sometimes I put it on my food diary online also. I haven't logged anything since my fill because I've been doing liquids....pretty boring...protein shake....protein shake, soup, protein shake...lol. Not sure how they figure the basel temp on fit day...but mine has got to be lower than that. Otherwise I should have dropped ALOT more weight!

A good rule of thumb for most people is your ideal body weight divided by 5, then x that by 2. So 2 grams of Protein for every 5lbs of ideal body weight. So if your ideal body weight is 145 you divide that by 5 and get 29. 29x2= 58...so someone with a ideal body weight of 145 would need 58 grams of protein. Now here is the problem....most of US are not at our ideal weight...so to maintain CURRENT muscle mass we might actually need more. Unfortantly, the liver actually converst some of the protein to carbs. Damn bodies get so darn efficient. So eating low carb is essential because part of that protein is actually converting to carbs too. The more I find out about nutrition...the more it amazes me that I'm not bigger than I am.

Wow. had salmon about a hour before my fill. I had to do liquids for 3 days, soft foods for 3 days and on to regular food. I started counting the days from when I left the office....lol. So today I had mushies after 2pm.

still no fill for me .. more behavior modification.
Dragonwillow replied to ROGER-FL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
No fill for a year? Thats crazy!! I would ask for an appointment to see the doctor...skip the practioner. I would probally be gaining back weight right now without any fill. Did they say why a year? -
See I'm just the opposite, I do the eliptical for an hour a day now 4-5 days a week...but cycling classes kick my but worse than an hour on the eliptical. And damn my butt, it wasn't designed for biking for that long! LOL

Well I'm going to be stuck at the mall from 1-6 so if anyone wants to come on out. LOL, feel free to call on my cell phone and say you are coming! I have tons of scrapbooking to do just havent' had time. Of course I could make time, but I'd have to do so much cleaning to be able to scrapbook sanely....well you get the picture.

Did anyone watch Oprah on Monday?
Dragonwillow replied to Kathy473's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow...with my changes in diet since banding...My real age is 30! cool beans. Now if I would wear my seat belt, drive the speed limit and never use my cell phone....I could be like even younger! LOL -
Those of you who are banded, do you exercise?
Dragonwillow replied to sleepyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
LOL, thats a great way of putting it. My arms defiently do that. The scar for an arm lift is pretty bad, and everytime I mention that might be something I want to have done, friends remind me how big the scar is. I have a friends wife who had it done an he says people ask her about her scars if she wears short sleeves. How rude! So even though she had it done to wear short sleeves, she still doesn't often because of the scars. They run from arm pit to elbow. What I do't understand is why they can't do something similiar to the tummy tuck. If I hold my arm up in the air, 95 percent of it looks good. I could handle a scar in my armpit...I mean if people are looking there they got more problems than me right? I have been lifting some pretty heavy weights for my arms (for a gal) over the last year, and I defiently have some muscle there...I even make hubby feel them sometimes LOL. I admit I love driving along and flexing them and seeing the definition that is emerging. I just wish they didn't have a sack hanging from the bottom that is waving hello cruel world constantly. -
I just got my second fill thursday. I'm hoping it is the one. I'm still on liquids and start mushies tomorrow afternoon so guess we will see then. I too had lost some of the first fill when I went in for the second.

Don't know about the average for 1 year out, but with the band you don't have a "window" of opportunity. You can continue to get adjustments, follow the rules and loose weight for however long it takes. Thats one of the greatest things about the band. You stop loosing weight, you can get serious again at any time...th band is there waiting for you.

You know what your taste generally change a bit after banding or something. I used to love getting a burger out or something junky...but not so much anymore. My mcdonalds meal is either a salad with chicken or a fruit parfait.

I am going to concord mills....but I don't have the numbers of everyone anymore, can you mail them to me? Concord mills sounds better than painting curtis room, no offense. LOL I have about 10 more fairies to paint in Karahs room, only did 4 so far.

My first nutritionist seemed to want to push me towards rny because I was a sweet eater. You know what...though I still like sweets that really hasn't been a problem for me so much. I feel even though I occassionally have something that is sweet I don't go overboard anymore. A little goes a long way. For me it was a good thing I got the lapband versus rny since my Vitamins have been low on recent blood tests. Can you imagine how much worse they could have been if I had malasorbtion issues? My pcp wasn't very supportive of me having surgery at all originally. I was still young, and I could do it on my own was his reasoning. He is happy for me now and some of his staff have asked about the band when I go in for them.
-
Jill, I have low D amoung others right now. I have almost a whole bottle of os cal if you want it. My pcp gave it to me when my blood work came back, but mine was like 17 so Dr. Bauman put me on 50000 unit bitamin d pill that I'm taking twice a week right now. The aocal has 200 iu of d and 500mg of c per pill, pcp told me to take 3 a day. It's good to know you are as crazy ...um I mean sane as 50% of the rest of us. Does that mean if you are standing between two people one is crazier than you...or that one is more sane? What you doing Sunday? You and Kirsten want to hang out with Karah and me at concord mills? Kristen is going to hang out with her friends after church for one of their bdays....so figure karah and I will hang out or see a movie or something.

Feeling overwhelmed that i can't do this!
Dragonwillow replied to j in nj's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I haven't been the most postive person as of late, but the great thing with the band is that when you slip with your dedication it's always there when you come back. I just recetly hit 6 months and had to have blood work. My vitamin levels were ALL srewed up and some seriously low. My primary care physican was very concerned and even said after I reminded him I didn't have rny but the band. (he always forgets and like most assume wls is rny) that he was VERY glad that I had the band and not rny. With the malabsorbtion issues that go along with rny I would have been in serious trouble with my vitimans. I would have probally been hospitalized by now. So looks like I made the right choice...even though I never seriously considered the rny. Exercise....start out slow, find something you like to do. I recomend getting started before surgery. I have been a exerciser for years now...one of the reasons I elected to have wls in the first place was because I did exercise so much and was STILL fat...so obviously it had to be the food end of th equation. LOL I truelly believe that my recovery from surgery was so easy because I had exercised so much. I've been rotating out my weight lifting ...right now I'm doing a "maintance" routine. Basically I do cardio everyday (well except sunday) and only hit each muscle group once a week...but with maxium weights I can handle. In a few weeks I will switch back to building...and will still do the same cardio but will do weights EVERYDAY alternating upper and lower body, with many reps and increasing weight added. While I'm in building mode...I don't loose weight at all or VERY VERY slowly...and sometimes forget that I'm most likely buiding muscle. This is generally when I have to get out the tape measure so I don't get to discouraged. I would be really interested in learning what my actual mucle mass is...but haven't found anyone localy that does the water submersson test. Also want to point out...that I've been banded for 6 months....and though I don't always loose very fat, or go weeks with out loosing the maxium I've gained at any one time 3 pounds....which could have just as easily been water. My point is...never in my life on any diet have I lasted 6 months loosing weight without gaining back a significant prt of what I lost in the first place. So if nothing else, the band helps keep from regaining. Good luck with your decision, you have defiently come to the right place for info.
