What is your favorite cliche expression that you wish you didn't use?
Gone4Now replied to Chelle B's topic in Rants & Raves
I wish I didn't use LIKE. I picked that up in the 80's, and I remember my mother HATED IT. So, of course I used it more. Now I have to force myself not to say it. Instead, I try to replace it with, "it's as if," so that way if "like" doesn't fit, I can't use it. Another on my list is, "Cool Beans" and "Dude". <sigh> I know..I know... I am a dork. -
:Banane35: Thank you. I have a 10 year old that I'm trying to set a good example for, too. So, even though my friends are important, I have got to do this for me. ******** And, sorry for all the posts folks. I don't know how to multiquote! Please PM me and let me know how...? Thanks.

I've never been thin. I was 12/14 in high school when we met, but I had the fat mentality and dressed in size 20s sweaters and jackets! By the end of high school I was a 20, then up and up from there. But now, down and down! :clap2:

Thank you! Part of my makeup is GUILT! :Banane35: I feel guilty, and I need to stop! I get angry at her for hurting me, then feel bad that I got mad. I usually can see the other side of things, so I do know where she's coming from and I don't want HER to be hurt. In the end, though, we're both hurting. The resentment you're talking about is something I was hoping to avoid. I am worried about her, though. I worry that she'll get depressed and eat more. She's on the verge of losing her job, and I'm scared that stress will be too much for her. I'm not sure how to bring all this up, either. She's very defensive and stubborn. I'd rather avoid an argument if all it does is make her feel worse. I'd like to have a conversation about my weight loss with her, but I'm not sure that's possible right now.
-
My friend and I are like you and your friend. Both around the same weight, but she's taller so carries it better than I do. She has a twin sister tha was always thin, or what I call "normal" size. So, I was her relief when she wanted to be comfortable being fat. We've been through the, "I'm just going to be fat and happy, damnit!" phase, and the "What's wrong with me" pity parties together. So, you're right - our focus needs to change from food to our other common interests.
-
BooBoo - I'm sorry to hear about your friend. That's a terrible reaction! I'd like to think that if I were thin, I'd be supportive of people losing weight and being healthly and not jealous of them.

Human beings eat WAY too much food...
Gone4Now replied to OregonHolly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm not an Oct bandster (mine 9/5) but I can definitely relate. The other day my family and I went out, and I got something off the kids menu and I couldn't eat it all. I just sat there amazed. I had the stuffed feeling that you get leaving a buffet, but I'd only had 4-5 bites! It was great! But I watched the rest of my family down everything, then eat mine! Portion control is a big problem, and people are getting bigger because of it. Ever see the movie Super Size Me? -
Wheetsin - LOL...it's been a long day! I read that as GUM, and couldn't figure out what it was. Ahem - - I get it now.

HA! I guess that's it, then.

I've noticed myself w/bad breath. I never used to have bad breath (or at least that I'd noticed). But, now I do! I have a brush at work, and carry mints. In Atkins I learned that if you're in Ketosis you're breath will be bad. I've wondered lately if the weight I'm losing has anything to do with that, chemically....? <shrug> It was on my list to ask my doctor Friday, but I forgot! I'm anxious to see what people say.

Has your sex life changed since getting the band?
Gone4Now replied to 000000000's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had to laugh at this one! My poor bf is so tired from the recent activity! I've only lost 28 pounds, but I really notice it. I'm more energetic and limber and I think before I was just too tired. Now it's fun! :-P -
:help: What do you do when a coworker is so sweet and giving and nice and wonderful, and you just want to wring her cute little neck? She keeps filling a very large bowl of candy and placing it in our work space. Others from all over the office come and grab some, so it windles down all day long - then she fills it in the AM. But I keep staring at it and drinking my Water, eating my cottage cheese for snack and I want to just cry!! This has been going on for about a week and she said she'll do it until Halloween. UGGG! KILL ME!!! Does anyone else have this going on? :Banane30: How do you handle it? Thanks!

Reason #1 for moving to TX from VA: no more (really cold) winters. People here will go, "burrrr.....when it's around 60 degrees." I just laugh. I miss the snow, but not the ice!
-
Actually, she was very wonderful about it. She's "normal" size, but has struggled with 10-15 pounds over time. So, she did accept that I had a problem and she offered to help with it. OTHER people were more vocal about it. "Where's the candy? Why did you put it over here? Why do I have to ask now?..." etc. My 10 year old behaves better than some of these people! LOL But, yes...she was gracious and I was very thankful.

Whoo Hoo! Go Kimmie! I love the "Future Skinny Bitch" saying under your name!

I was thinking this was going to be a miracle cure, but it's not working out that way. I still have to watch what I'm eating, which I at first I thought I could avoid. BUT. I was leaving the doctor's today, disappointed that I haven't lost as much as I thought I would, when it hit me: 25 pounds in a little less than 2 months. That's 1/2 what I lost in a whole year when I was on Atkins (my most successful, to-date diet.) If I can keep on with 2-3/per week, then I'm doing GREAT! And, I see a lot of you have lost weight, and we're not at restriction yet... Just hang in there! The best is yet to come! Keep up the good work, September Bandsters! Go US!!!!
-
SkinnyMartini - I'm anxious to know if you felt any restriction w/your first fill? What size band do you have, and how many cc's were put in? I had 2 cc's put in today and feel no restriction!
-
Hi...I was banded on 9/5 and had my first fill today. I had 2 cc's put into a VG standard band. I felt a little restriction in the office, but now nothing! I'm still losing, though...down 25 pounds from the beginning of the pre-op diet. Hope the 2 cc's helps...

One of the things that was brought up when I was talking to the coworker (aka food pusher) was that it's like any other addiction. I'm trying hard not to eat those things that I have been addicted to for so long. If an alcoholic worked here, would we put out little glasses of wine? Why is candy and chocolate and doughnuts, etc. better? Most of America is overweight and eats poorly. That's probably a very strong analogy, but to me it's real enough!
-
Thank you all for your hints! I did talk to her about it, as politely as I could. She said she had no idea, and has put it away at her desk. People can still get it, but they have to go to her to ask. yay! I also bought some sugar free candies to get me through, but really, if they're in my drawer and tucked away I don't think about it. It was all that flashy chocolate staring me down each morning that did me in! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I like the buy the crappy stuff! I can do that to "help" her out. :Banane30: I wish I could toss it. She has a decorative halloween towel underneath of it, and I finally covered the bowl with it. Another coworker said, "Why are you hiding the bowl?!" I said because I can't keep looking at it all day...she understood and covered the bowl back up. I'll just keep covering it. I know it's there, but I don't have to see KitKats and Reeses glaring at me all day. Hopefully she'll see that as a good compromise.

Hi there! I'm relatively new to the site...only a month old. In my experience, the first few days were rough, after that I was fine. I'd plan for a week of r & r. After that, smooth sailing. I was worried about our state fair at the end of Sept, but I was fine, fine, fine...I even had a small ice cream cone shared a funnel cake w/my daughter. (I'm not filled yet.) Hope that helps... ?

Does anyone else have weird band related dreams or nightmares?
Gone4Now replied to BRANDYK's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Since my surgery on Sept 5, I have had dreams about snakes. Every. Single. Night. I don't even normally remember my dreams and this is really beginning to freak me out. I'm not superstitious or anything, but really - It's kinda weird. Sometimes I am fighting them off, other times they win and bit me. But, not really about food...although I'm not sure which would be worse! lol
