    Va'JJ

She was strapped up on a wire kind of thing. She said, "My va'JJ's a hurtin'" I love it and now my bf and I jokingly call it that all the time now. Gotta love Oprah!

You really are too young to discuss anything rationally. Do You? You know use that word!

Ex-Pres Clinton (I'm sure you've studied about him, right?) claimed not to have inhaled when asked about smoking pot. I know I inhaled, so if it was a crack at you it was a lighthearted one. I just didn't understand how someone can just be blah and be okay with it. I'm sorry you've had a hard day. God knows some are harder than others. But, you jumped into the rant saying some really awful things. You certainly have the right to think and do, or not think or not do, what you want. But, as one professional working woman to young girl who is striving to be one: please learn to take advice, and try hard to care more about other people. Making legislation is a high goal. If that truly is your dream, then please try harder to take other people's feelings and insights into consideration. If you do indeed make it that far, then you won't be there promoting your own agenda - you'll be there for people like us, the ones you've been slamming here.

This is insane. Do you really believe the crap you spout or are you just instigating something useless for the sake of arguing? :faint:

I hate it when people post just to post.....

I just read this to see what the hub-bub was and I'm LMAO! It's a perfect example of the seriousness behind the beginning of this rant and rave. Did I mention I like my shoes?

    Any September bandsters out there???

Sunshine, I'm not sure why my doc said that. I was shocked at first because losing 40 pounds isn't an easy task, but thought, "Well, he knows what he's doing." Since the visit I'm down about 10 pounds, but it's been hard! I'm hungry all the time, and I can eat! I'm not eating what I could, though because I didn't go through all the trouble of surgery just to fail at another diet. I know I can't keep the good fight up for very long because in the long-term I'm weak. I've dropped 35 total (from pre-diet to now) and I'm still 120 pounds to my goal. That's discouraging to me and sometimes I get a little depressed. Thus, the doctor's appointment next Monday!! :Banane20: To hell with waiting 40 pounds! How are you doing in your long time gaps between fills? Is it easy for you, or do you feel like you'd be better off with fills more often? Also, what was your first fill? Did you get more because you knew it'd be a while before your next one, or did the doc decide?

    Any September bandsters out there???

I was banded on the 5th of Sept, had 2 cc's on Oct 12th, and now I can eat just about anything. I am still losing but I bounce a few pounds and if I'm on my period - nothing goes away. At my first fill, the doctor wanted me to get my 2nd after I'd lost 40 pounds. That's a third of the weight I want to lose, and I kept thinking I couldn't do that on my own. I have very little restriction right now and I'm worried that I won't be able to keep not eating all that I want. So, I made the appt for next Mon for a second fill. I need the restriction, and it's the reason why I went through surgery. I'm hoping the 2nd will be my sweet spot...wish me luck!

    World has gone to PC

My friends know if I'm angry or upset by something, I'll get angry, then cry...then slowly start making jokes about whatever is was that bothered me. Part of my healing process is to make jokes and I don't see it as feuling hatred and paranoia, rather trying to lighten the world up a little bit. What fuels my hatred and paranoia, personally, is when something of mine is threatened. I don't hear a joke and get angry. If you think about it, right after 9/11 there weren't any jokes being told. People were too pissed. Now, more and more jokes (whether in bad taste, or incorrect in factual content) are surfacing, so I tend to believe making jokes is many other people's way of healing, too. I think the really offensive jokes are either told by comics for effect, or from one truly racist/sexist/bigot/fill-in-the-blank-ass to another. The ones that people feel comfortable telling to large groups of people probably aren't meant to be offensive and should be taken less seriously than they are. It parrallels what I've told my daughter about cussing. If she stubs her toe and says, "F***!" then I'll be less angry than if she looked at me and said, "F*** you." Same word. Different meaning and intent behind it.

I think of that scene in Die Hard 2, I think, where he strapped on a racist sign and stood in Harlem. Not good stuff.

I chose it because I was 3rding it. I'm not up for attacking any one post or person, so I usually tack on to something I agree with and stay away from the posts that will get me arguing. I can get carried away with some of the things I've read here, so I'd rather keep it friendly and just state my opinions. Sorry to single you out.

I hate that! I assist with coaching on my daughter's soccer team and they're not supposed to keep score! All the kids know, though - so it's just stupid. And, I'm sorry, but the little girl who screams every time the ball comes near her and actually moves out of the goal when it's coming her way should NOT be in soccer. Go be a ballerina. I'm sick of that crap. It's a sporting competition. There should be points. There is a winner and there is a <gasp!> loser.

How many blond, jewish, catholic, fat, men, women, mexican, irish, muslim, indian, native american, rabbi, god, devil, strange sexual acts with animals, strange sexual acts with neighbors, old white lady who's a bitch - jokes are there out there? Jokes are just jokes...And for as many offended people you'll have, you'll find people laughing. I work with two guys who have worked together for over 25 years. One is a white guy and the other is a black guy. They are very good work buddies, and are always teasing each other with racist jokes. (All the cracker jokes make me hungry...) When I first started there I was shocked, but now it's funny because I know the two involved and I just shake it off. One day the white guy brought in a large Arizona Watermelon tea for the black guy and just sat it on his desk. All of us just sat there, wondering what he would say. He just turned and said, "How'd you know I love watermelon???!!!" He laughed, then we laughed, then the white guy said, "Well, you needed something to wash the fried chicken down with." Wow. Yeah...They're definitely not PC. No one else in our group would have 1) done that, or 2) gotten away with doing that. They are friends and can do that. I don't know either one well enough to make personal jokes about or to them. So, I think it would be inappropriate for me to say that stuff, even though I think it's fun to hear them go back and forth. I think you just have to know your audience - just ask Sarah Silverman. She made some jokes about Britney that weren't really funny because they were TRUE and recent. Some things are bad taste and some aren't, and some only are because someone's in a bad mood. All in all, I say go for it. If you get flack, oh well. People should lighten up, others should should proof what they write...if there ever was a balance the world would be perfect.

I'm not sure if everyone is on the same page as far as respect. I will be polite to someone I don't know; I'll hold the door open for anyone; I'll help pick up something if I see they dropped it; I'll smile and say good morning; I will wave someone across the street, etc. All regardless of color, weight, religion, height, gender, or if they're wearing stupid clothes, silly hats, or if their shoes don't match. I don't care. But. If they speak to me and they are ignorant and especially if they are proud of it, I will instantly not respect them. That doesn't mean I won't still help them, or that I'll start treating them rudely. It just means I cross them off my list of people who could be a friend. I don't respect stupidity or ignorance. There are so many ways people can better themselves, and I know so many people who chose not to. I'm not just talking about spelling, grammar, or whether they have all their teeth. I work with people who can spell, have very nice teeth and are as slimy as they come. Respect them, just because they're human? No. No way. Respect is earned, not just given away. I think that's why a large group of our people DON'T better themselves. Why do they have to? Society caters to them, the government pays for them, people pay lip service to them...they do what they want and don't have to be a better person. Pretty much any reality show personality is not worth a lick of salt. Flava Flav, New York, Bret Michaels, The Cory's...I see commercials for this and just get disgusted. Those are the types people that I don't respect. I know this has nothing to do with race or the N word and I'm sorry that I ranted...I just believe people need to earn respect and not have it handed. To me, respect means something more than just basic politeness.

    type 2 diabetes?

At my daughter's soccer game the coach was telling me that the school nurse sent a note home saying that the discoloring around her daughter's neck could be type 2 diabetes. She asked me if I'd ever had anyone ask me about my daughter's neck. She has the same kind of dark crust around her neck that the coach's daugher does. I just always thought it was because she has dark skin and she's pudgy, and knew she had to lose weight. I never knew it could be diabetes. But, when I looked it up on the internet, I found that it is a sign, along w/frequent urination, blurry vision, extreme thirst and tiredness. Which my daughter does/has/is. <sigh> So, I took her to the doctor today. I know she is overweight, and we have been working on it. Soccer, walks, diet, etc. But, it's hard because my mother lives across the street and watches her before and after school and feeds her bacon & eggs and toast every morning, despite me asking her not to. Hopefully, after the doctor's orders for my daughter to lose weight, my mother will help. My daughter is 10 years old, 5'2" and weighs 153 lbs. More than what my goad weight is at 5'5"! She has to lose 30 pounds in 6 months (given that kids should lose more than an average of 1 lb a week.) The blood test results will come back on Wednesday. Hopefully her obesity hasn't gotten to the diabetes stage -YET- it's bad enough as it is. Sorry..I've rambled a bit because I'm upset. I've been fat since I was 10 and I am slapping myself silly over letting the same thing happen to my daughter - something I swore I'd never do. I mean, if someone else hit her or hurt her in any way, I'd be in jail. But, I'm ruining her chance at a healthy life!!! Me! I'm supposed to protect her, and I've hurt her. Wju didn't I see it???? Ugg. Anyway.....my main point was: Has anyone heard of the ring around the neck thing? I never would have thought that, or made the connection to diabetes. And, is anyone else's child overweight? with diabetes? And, how do you help them? Thanks for listening!!!

    New SHOES!!!!

I did! I looked down the other day and wondered why my size 9 1/2 white K-Swiss tennis shoes looked funny. It was because I was wearing my daughter's size 8 white Sketchers. I loved it. I told her when she outgrows all those expensive shoes I bought her, I want them!!! Hand-me-UPS!

    type 2 diabetes?

Thank you! I need a new family doctor, I think. I just looked this up, and it's related to overload of Iron. My daughter had too much iron when she was born, and I had to put her on low-iron formula. Coinkydink? I'm going to see if they can test for that, too, while they're testing the diabets. A lot of the signs are the same. Thanks again!

Do You? You know use that word!

I'm jumping in a little late, so I apologize if this has been addressed later on...But, here goes: How can a word hold so much power? Are you kidding? Words ARE power. Speeches win or lose elections. Speeches move millions of people to walk/race/march. Words bring people to tears, words can make people angry; words are what make us civilized. When I was a little girl, another girl came up to me, kicked me and called me a honky. I didn't even know her name. The kick? I don't feel that anymore...the anger and the hate in her eyes? I still see that. My daughter is mixed, and if anyone EVER called her the N word I would be furious. Why? Because it's not appropriate. Even if her friends called her that, I would put a stop to it, whether she minded or not. It's not appropriate for anyone to call anyone derogatory names. As for history...well, that's a waste to argue that. How much of your history do you want to hold on to? How far back should we go? Ancient Sumaria? (sp?) Things change -get over it. And, guess what? "Ain't" is in the dictionary now. We don't use Thee or Thou anymore... Language changes, and will always change. A large group of people (of all races) have said, "DON'T USE THAT WORD." It no longer means ignorance like it once did, now it's something worse. So, don't use it. Period. Aren't there other words you can use?
