Can't eat white chicken meat at all, or turkey! Am able to eat the dark meat on both. Can't tolerate the canned chicken. Another thing I miss is chicken tuna salad, anything with mayo doesn't work.

Mostly order from the appetizer menu. Try to hit restaurants that may be a la carte....the burger platter is a no no as can't (won't) eat the french fries...eliminate the bun....usually have soup/salad, and forget the all you can eat places! Was out for brunch with the girls but had to make smart choices and not the breads, sweets, etc! You have to make an effort to follow this new lifestyle....

I'm thinking about getting LapBand. Is it really worth it?
SuzyGayle replied to frost1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would do it again in a heartbeat....tried too many "diets" over the years and this is the only tool that lets me change my lifestyle and lose the weight without giving up. I've yet to have a fill and it's been over 4 months, just don't feel I need it yet. Remember, on this site you are only reading about people who have posted, there are many sucessful lapbanders that don't bother with websites, or are just readers. Remember, you are an individual....your story and success is up to you. Good luck! -
I had my surgery 9-21-07 and have yet to have a fill. My surgeon and I discussed that if I'm losing 1-2 lbs a week, hold off....I still have the feeling of fullness and go back in 2 weeks....still might skip the fill ...all people have a different feeling of fullness....follow your own body's signals. Good luck!

I'm 3 months post op and have not had my 1st fill.....I still have restriction since surgery and can only eat a small amount. I also followed my surgeon and nutritionist's program with post-op liquid and mushie stages, then solids. My hardest problems is slowing down my eating....if I don't slow down, I end up PB and sliming....not fun. I'm definitely following my old low-carb, low-calorie diabetic diet, BUT I can now definitely limit the quantity of foods. Before I could cheat big time, but those days are gone. I've lost my desire to eat a lot, and very rarely feel hungry....if I do, I notice I'm not getting enough Protein.... As stated before, everyone is different, but you must absolutely want this more than anything....

As for the meat, I can't eat white chicken or turkey...only the dark meat but need some type of gravy or liquid....BUT can eat a few bites of steak.....totally cannot eat chicken or tuna salad but can do the egg salad..... I think everyone has a different reaction to their band and just has to work with it... before surgery I was a salt and carb lover, now I want sweets! Go figure!

I used liquid tylenol post op for pain and since then for any pain relief.

How to take horse pill-sized vitamins and meds
SuzyGayle replied to Done's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought a pill crushed for post op for my meds.....it took probably 2 months out when I could finally take my biggest pill whole....still use the chewable vitamins and calcium supplements. -
Peanut Butter Issue
SuzyGayle replied to MovinForward's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Isopure clear protein drink
SuzyGayle replied to jewelee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get Isopute clear liquid at Vitamin Shoppe....usually buy it by the case as it's cheaper.....not the greatest tasting, but I can get it down...has 40 grams of protein, much higher than the Special K and Atkins shakes.....I'm 3 months out and still use it.....gets the protein in with minimal calories.. -
Well, it's the end of the year and just went through my closet to go down to my next size hiding in the back of the closet.....surprise! that size is too big! Have to go down 2 sizes! Bagged up 7 bags of clothes, some still with sales tags on them! Will take to Salvation Army/Goodwill on Saturday. Still time to get rid of the "fattest" clothes and send off to charity! Check out your closets!

I liked the idea that it was reversible. One of my co-workers had the bypass 20 years ago and is having major problems now...I realize that it's a lot better now, but I think this surgery is much easier...also, post-op you are back up and running quickly. I started out at 274 lbs and my family doctor said I was borderline for the RNY but he preferred the lap band. Whatever your choice, it is life changing. Good Luck on your journey!

Hi livn, Well, I know that the office has gone through a personnel change over the last few months. I was sort of in the middle of it and the only difficulty I had was getting them to send/fax me the list of required medical tests to my family doctor for pre op testing. It became a hassle but all worked out in the end. I'm not sure about your approval process, but a lot depends on your insurance. I met the "national standards" for obesity as required by my insurance (BC/BS Federal). Some insurances require a year of recorded dieting, thankfully mine did not. My insurance also required a "center of excellence" which does fit with GBMC. I went to GBMC at my diabetes doctor suggestion..he had 11 patients before me that had lap band surgery and all went there...another had RNY but in DC....all lap banders are doing extremely well. As for GBMC, I can't complain...except for the initial paperwork delay. Post op, I ended up back in the hospital....had surgery Friday and did well on Saturday, but on Sunday afternoon, I couldn't get liquids down....Called Dr. Mo Monday AM and he had me come straight in..here, my esophagas had swollen (very rare)..admitted me into the hospital for 1-1/2 days for IVs, was preventing dehydration, plus steroid IVs for getting the swelling down....Dr. Mo was great throughout....I've been back a few times, with no problems with the office...yet to get my 1st fill. I still have some restrictions and don't have the need yet...am losing 1-2 lbs per week so Dr. Mo and I discussed putting it off until I need it. I cancelled my December appt for a fill and will go back in January for check up. I really haven't been involved in the monthly meetings...just don't have the time to get up there....I work in DC and just adopted a greyhound that keeps me busy... I know people have complained about GBMC, but if you feel uneasy, check out all of the other places nearby...make sure you are comfortable with your choice.... I'd probably go back to GBMC over again.. GOOD LUCK !

Blowing It With Christmas Goodies
SuzyGayle replied to lapedtolive's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow! I'm reading your messages while eating 3 cookies! Any you know what....I don't feel guilty. It's Christmas and I've allowed myself some treats....when the last guest leaves, the stuff goes to work with me to give away or gets dumped. I can eat 3 small Cookies now INSTEAD of a whole box....that's the great thing about the band, that's all I want... Don't beat yourself for a little treat....just know that it's now a small treat instead of a lifestyle. Merry Christmas All! -
The BEST protein dinner - even could be a mushie!

Where are the Maryland Bandsters?
SuzyGayle replied to MollyBrown's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
gwhite I also went to GBMC, Dr. Moen was my surgeon. My diabetes doctor is here in Crofton and he had 11 other patients go to GBMC. My insurance would only cover "Centers of Excellence" and GBMC was one of the few at that time... -
Are you getting enough Protein? I'm 3 months out and yet to have a fill (still some restrictions from surgery) BUT when I get that hunger, I get a Protein Drink, either protein Water or a Protein shake....it definitely helps for me. Plus, are you confusing stomach noises for hunger noises? Even though I'm not hungry, my stomach sounds like a meat grinder ! It's crazy, but I just ignore it.... Good luck and find out what's right for you.

surgery in 3 days-thursday the 20th
SuzyGayle replied to saravalintine's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Post op was groggy but minimal pain....after surgery was given 3 prescriptions, one for pain, one for previcid that I had to take for 30 days and I forget the 3rd. I didn't have the pain prescription filled because 3 years before I had laporoscopic surgery for appendix and the prescription made me so groggy and out of it. Post lap band I just used liquid tylenol for pain and didn't even fill the pain prescription....was much less groggy and was driving to the store 2 days post op...you cannot drive while on the pain prescriptions. Good luck....no regrets on my part, and as with most, you will do great! -
I was on 5 meds for diabetes before surgery including Byetta. I had to stop Byetta as it is a time-release medication that is a no-no post op. My diabetes doctor, in addition to my surgeon, discussed meds pre and post op. I also had to stop metformin 2 days pre op as it interferes with the anesthesia during surgery....since surgery have stopped 2 additional meds for diabetes and cut back on the metformin and reduced Lantus injections from 35 units to 8. My diabetes doctor had 12 other patients have this surgery and ALL are off meds for diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, etc. As you lose weight you blood sugar levels will normalize...I hope to be off all meds in 6 months..... Just think of the $$$ you save to buy new skinny clothes! Good Luck!

How Many FILLS BEFORE YOUR 1st Restriction
SuzyGayle replied to LovingWhatIs's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Had surgery 9-21-07 and almost 3 months later have yet to have my 1st fill. Still somewhat restricted from surgery. Went for my 1st fill in November and doctor was pleased with my progress and said to wait and to make an appointment in December, but if losing a minimum of 1 lb per week, postpone the fill appointment again. Dong well, so I've postponed to mid January. Everyone seems to be in a rush to get their fills, but I'm quite content and I guess lucky to still have restriction since surgery...started at 274 and am down to 232...averaging 10 lbs a month. Good luck to everyone else! -
If you are still hungry, make sure you are getting enough protein....when I feel that way, I go back to my Isopure drink...not the best tasting, but it definitely takes that hunger edge away..
