First Fill coming up Friday
sherreew replied to Debbie P's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Debbie: Like everyone else, I was really nervous. I had my first fill on 12/31/07. The nurse practitioner sprayed numbing spray so that it made my port location cold. Then she inserted the needle with the solution in, put in 4cc, drew out 4cc to make sure she was in the port correctly and then put it back in. My doctor requires clear liquids for 1 day, pureed for 1 day, soft foods for 1 day and then back on regular foods after each fill. I was really surprised that I didn't even feel the fill. I didn't look because the needle was pretty big to look at but with the numbing spray, I didn't feel a thing. What a relief! So, don't worry at all about your first fill. You'll spend more time worrying about it than you will even getting it. Good luck! Sherree -
Thanks. It wasn't bad at all. But it's New Year's Eve and I'm on a clear liquid diet and my nutritionist said that doesn't include champagne:D Maybe next year... Have a great New Year's.

Just thought I'd give an update on this. I got my first fill today. I have a 14cc band and they put in 4cc. They sprayed topical spray and froze my port location and then put in the solution. It didn't hurt. I'm on clear liquids until the morning but there aren't any issues with feeling stuck yet. It really doesn't feel any different and I'm scheduled for a second fill in 2 weeks. I really encourage you to go ahead and get that first fill.

My doctor, Dr. Curry in Cincinnati, said that it usually takes 3-5 fills to get to your "sweet spot". Then you might need one every few months as you lose weight. My doctor does the first fill after 4 weeks and then another one 2 weeks later and then once a month until you get to the right spot.

I felt the same way about a week ago. I had my lapband put in on December 3rd and I felt full quickly until about a week ago. Now, I feel like I could eat the legs off the dining room table. So, it maybe that you're still swollen some and not ready for a fill but just wait ... that swelling will go away and you'll find yourself eating a cup or cup and a half of food and want more 2-3 hours later. That's when you'll know.

INTRODUCTIONS-please introduce yourself here before going to another thread
sherreew replied to Mindful's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, I'm Sherree. I've just decided to have lap band surgery and am waiting on the insurance process with Dr. Curry. I've been heavy all of my life and have lots of co-morbidities. Like everyone else, I just want a life! I have one daughter, Megan, who's going to be 12 next month and have been married for 17 years. I'm an IT professional and work at an insurance company in downtown Cincinnati. We're members of the ME Lyons YMCA and I noticed that a few others are, too. I'm nervous about the surgery ... worried that I really need this to work ... worried about lots of things but much more nervous about what will happen if I don't have the surgery. This forum has really helped me with starting this process and knowing what all to ask so thanks for all of your help and I'm really glad you're all here ... feels good to know I'm not alone.
