  1. Hey guys, I was sleeved 10/2014 and am now 5 months pregnant. I hear that most sleevers have cesarean births but we don't know why. Has anyone out there had any sleeve-related complications with pregnancy? Were you able to have a vaginal delivery? Also, I feel like my OB doesn't really understand my needs. Anyone know of an OB in Maryland who specializes in post bariatric mommies? Thanks!

    Confession

Honestly, every single meal is a chance to start over. I'm about to be 7 months post op but this entire time, I've had my days where I've just eaten like a disgusting pig. Hardly any Protein and nothing but crap. Don't feel bad. We're not perfect and we wouldn't have gotten this way if we didn't have problem w/ food. Just pick yourself back up. weight lost, is weight lost, so stop looking behind you!
  3. It depends on what I'm eating. I can eat a whole slice of bread but if I put peanut butter on it, I can only eat half. I think it's the protein. If I don't measure I can eat a cup or more of food. If I measure and weigh, I eat way less but I'm still satisfied. Don't be discouraged. As long as you're limiting your carbs and eating protein first, you're on the right track!!
  4. Hey guys! I was sleeved Oct 22nd, 2014 so I am about 6 months post op. How much food were you able to consume in one sitting 6 months out? I feel like I'm able to eat too much. I'm not eating tons of food, but I'm eating a few more table spoons of tuna, a few more shrimp than before, I'm just worried I'm stretching my stomach...
  5. Don't be afraid. Just make sure you eat protein first. I can eat carbs like I'd never been sleeved and it scared me too, but it's like double whammy because I wasn't supposed to be eating it anyway. Protein fills me up and keeps me full. I think it has something to do w/ the fact that we start digesting starch in our mouths...
  6. Thanks so much guys. I will definitely be measuring EVERYTHING. I was doing that way in the beginning but somewhere along the line I guess I started to get comfortable! I'm about to go look for collapsible measuring cups too! Lol. Thanks guys!

    Going bonkers here

I was sleeved October 22nd 2014. I completely feel your pain. I lost 50 lbs (including pre-op diet) then I didn't lose anything for the entire month of december. Then I lost 10 lbs now the scale is stuck again. I work out pretty consistently, I track everything on myfitnesspal and nothing. I hope this helps you see you're not alone. I hate it!!

    Surgery on the 22nd!

Im doing ok. I don't think I'm going to be ready to move to the pureed food stage on thurs. I'm still having some trouble with really thick liquids like my rtd protein shake and cream of chicken soup. Other than that I'm doing awesome.

    Surgery on the 22nd!

Thanks, and I'm glad you're doing well. I hope things continue to sail smoothly. Just remember to carry your bottle of water or whatever you're drinking, everywhere you go. I think I read somewhere that the very first sign of dehydration is thirst, so you know how easy it is for that to happen. Best of luck! Don't be a stranger

    Surgery on the 22nd!

Heeey! I got home yesterday. I too was done on the 22nd. My doctors aren't calling it complicated recovery but I feel like mine has been. I developed a fever in PACU. I was in unbearable the entire time. I'm just starting to be able to get up and move around. I ws throwing up everything and then some up until last night. How have you been feeling?
  12. Just got my approval!!! I'm so excited. I'm all set for October 22nd!! woohoo!

Yay you! I still remember how excited I was when I got my approval, because of some paperwork trouble I got my approval and surgery date within a week of each other. Didn't have time to get too nervous. You may have some struggles at the very first, but even they are nothing compared to how good you will feel within a few weeks of surgery. I am 4 1/2 mos out and feel great! Down 77 lbs total, 56 down from surgery day. Good Luck~

I actually had the lap band from 2007 removed and revised to RNY bypass. Lap Band failed, after it was repositioned during gall bladder surgery in 2008. I am sooooo pleased that I spoke with my surgeon about the revision to by pass. I believe it will be a life changer for me and my family. I have 4 grandchildren from my wonderful step daughters, and two adult children of my own. Now I can interact with them all and be active in their life. I am so looking forward to riding the rides with them. Going boating again with them. Living and sharing my life with them. I already feel so much better. Good luck on your journey as well. Keep me updated. I will friend you!

  13. Hey guys! Next Thursday is my 6th and final month of this program and then it's just waiting to hear from insurance. I'm so excited I can barely stand it. I feel like I"m being given a second chance at life! Is anyone else out there as close as I am? So close you can taste it?? What's ur story??

    Ugh my Mother!

Ugh! Your mom just doesn't understand, but I'm sure she thinks she's helping because she cares. Your rant has inspired me though. I have a friend who isn't necessarily against me having the surgery, but she thinks it's too much work. She was asking me questions about all the requirements (the sleep study, the monthly appointments, the psych evaluation, etc.) and she goes "wouldn't it just be easier to exercise and eat right?" I wanted to choke her! If it was that easy, I would have done it already! Some people just don't get it!!!

    Appealing- contact your senator!

@@KSTUZ did they let you know ahead of time that gaining weight during the 6 months would disqualify you?

    Where are my maryland sleevers?

I'm 5 months into the sleeve process. Dr. Brebbia is also my surgeon. He is really approachable. I'm very happy with him and his entire team. I'm a little concerned because while I've been trying to eat well and exercise, I think I may have gained a little weight since my last weigh in (it's Thursday). I'm afraid that this will keep me from getting approved, or that they'll recommend that I start the 6 months over, you know?

Any Sleeve Surgeons In Washington Dc

Hey! I go to Washington Hospital Center too. I'm getting the sleeve with Dr. Brebbia. My monthly nutritionist meetings are $34 out of pocket which isn't too bad. Dr. Brebbia, is very personable and easy to talk to. I wish I had more meetings with him along the way because when he did my endoscopy (a requirement for the surgery) I saw that he'd found a hiatal hernia, and I want to talk to him about what we're going to do about it. Other than that everyone has been very friendly and willing to help.
  18. I have Blue Cross Blueshield but I work for a Medstar company. I could have opted for Medstar insurance during open enrollment, but I wanted blue cross because I wanted to be able to go where ever I wanted for health care. I pay more monthly premium (almost double) and I have a bigger deductable and more out of pocket expenses, but I thought it would be worth it, so that I'm not limited to just Medstar facilities.... THEN when I started this, I was told by my insurance that I could still only go to a Medstar facility for my surgery. Even though I have blue Cross. Any medstar employees out there going through the same thing? Pre or post op? What have your experiences been?
  19. I just had my 4th appointment and July is month 5 for me. I'm almost there and I'm starting to feel really anxious? Any other sleevers out there?

Help, I dont want to tell my boss

I have a similar issue. I work in a doctors office and I know my manager is anti wls. She told this other girl who was having the sxs, "I hope something happens and you can't get the surgery. Why don't you just join a gym?" My manager is known for being really fake and gossiping about people in the ofice. She's never asked me why I am taking so much PTO for appointments. Maybe she knows, I haven't told a lot of people. I do want to think of something to say I'm doing when I take off for my sxs. If I say it's for vacation, I'm not guarenteed to get off.
