  1. So at my last fill appointment my doctor opted to not give me a fill. He said my weight loss was going very well, and I may be in the green zone without any fills. The nurse however, told me I just may be swollen a little more than normal and to let her know if I started getting hungry. Well I don't know if its my head playing games or what, but I started Friday becoming very hungry, but at odd times. Also, I am still hungry after my 5oz of food and yes I am going my Protein first and minimizing carbs and whatnot. I have been able to subdue this with eating a pickle, a cup vegetables, or even a cup of air popped popcorn without anything on it. Weight wise I am still going down but at a slower rate than in the beginning. The other side of this is at 400 lbs I hurt my back pretty bad. I had been in pain everyday day of my life until just recently. When I hit 323 I felt like I was able to get up and down easier and since then I have been extremely active. I went from sitting and doing next to nothing everyday to being active 406 hours a day. Not so much exercising, but going outdoors and doing things I had not done in a long time like, gardening, mowing, and house projects. (has not mowed my lawn in over a year) I do work out with strength training 2 days a week, go see a personal trainer once a week, and do cardio every day now. My schedule also impacts my diet to as I work 330 to midnight at home sitting for 8 hours. I had got int he habit of eating after work along with my three meals a day before surgery and it is a fight every night lately. My wife thinks I should listen to my body and eat if I need to since I am burning so many calories. My sugar has been lower than it has ever been and the doctor took me off all my diabetes meds 2 weeks ago. I find myself dropping out in the morning and sometimes late at night. Has anyone else had these issues? How did you cope with them? Do I need a fill or is this just head games? Thank you for your responses!

    Lapband Newby

I questioned myself about getting my band. I had it in my head that it was admitting failure, and that I did not have the willpower to do it on my own. However, I looked past that and decided that I was tired of being on the yo-yo and wanted to make a permanent change to end my health issues. I was super nervous up to the surgery, its normal. Good luck though you will do great.
  3. 1 Month and making an impact. I think I am starting to wear out my family though.

    Started Pre-Op Need Help

Hello there! I find myself not getting 1000 calories a day. My nutritionist has me weighing out my food with 3 oz of Protein and 1 oz each of grain and veggies or fruit. I average 825 with 70 grams of protein unless I do a training session where I add beneprotein to my meal at night to help heal then I hit 80+. For my pre-op diet I struggled but I started to weigh it all out and get an idea of how much food I was going to get. I didn't starve myself but I was hungry. It is amazing to me such a small amount of food fills me up now. I know every doctor has their own plan so if you follow yours you should be fine. The carbs are very low when you are only doing 3 oz of grains a day.

I'm in Melbourne new banded if anyone wants to talk or need someone to give some support.
  6. I did tuna a lot. My wife also cooked ground beef in the blender and made sure it was fine chopped and mixed it with gravy with mashed potatoes which was awesome after being on liquids for a while. I also used beneprotein to add more Protein to my meals. It has no taste or anything, and actually I still use it here and there to hit 70 grams of protein. Adding it to the healthy grain cream of wheat made with milk puts it at 20 grams of protein. Another thing I did was blender chicken breast to where it still had some texture and added FF cream cheese, sour cream, garlic, spinach, and artichokes and made a delicious meal that had 26 grams of protein in 5 oz. Good luck though, hope this gives you some ideas to try.

    Newbie

I was banded two weeks before you. I was so miserable the first two weeks and I wondered what I had done to myself. Now that I am on regular food things are a lot better. That two weeks of pain is going to be worth it. There have been a few issues since, but nothing I haven't learned from (getting stuck/certain foods not agreeing). Congratulations though I am glad to see someone as excited about this as I have been, Good luck on your journey!
  8. I was banded 4/14/2014. I was 351 lbs. at surgery and on the 1st I had my first followup with the doctor. I weighed in on the scale at 323 which was quite a loss. Since then I have only lost 4 lbs. Is this normal to lose that quickly and then slow to a crawl. I am eating 800-900 calories a day and exercising more then I have in a long time. (At least 30 minutes every day cardio and strength training twice a week) I was wondering if anyone has had a similar situation? How did you break your first plateau?

    Beginning Plateau

LOL yes, my time machine is broken. Thank you so much for the reference. It was so exciitng in the beginning except my wife you was worried about the drastic loss. Now I am busting my butt for these results. Not losing the faith though.

    Anxiety

It is a huge adjustment for your body and there will be some anxiety the first week. I know I had problems getting fluids down and had to go in for IV therapy 2 days. I was uncomfortable and just plain out mad. I kept thinking I made a huge mistake and that this was the worst. I'm a month out and finally starting to eat real food again and I have to say I am much more optimistic now. Part of my personal problem was I had diabetes and high blood sugar and the shock from the surgery and diet changed my sugars and kept dropping. My doc took me off all my meds and I am controlled now with the weight I've lost and diet. Hang in there! It is so worth it!

cheated on my pre op diet

I was in the same boat pre-op thinking it was my last chance to have certain foods and messed up quite a bit. I went to see my doctor and he said, "Here's the deal, I don't think you are taking this seriously and I don't want to put anyone in a situation they can not handle. If you can not lose 10 lbs before surgery we are going to delay 2 months and put you on a Optifast diet." I wised up quick and started planning all my meals as I was banded. 800-900 calories a day is rough but it is paying off. You can do it! Just keep reminding yourself the reasons you are doing this!
