For me its a different kind of hungry. If you follow the instructions you will feel full very fast and its uncomfortable to exceed that limit. Remember the sleeve is only a tool. You can cheat it.

Rosie O’Donnell Makes Hurtful Comments About the Lap-Band on “The View”
par1959 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
There is one big difference between the two surgeries one should consider. A band is only restrictive where as a sleeve is restrictive and metobolic. Big difference. The stats prove which one is more effective. -
13 yr old getting sleeve. Need recommendations in Mexico
par1959 replied to slcmommy5's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Don’t compound your past mistakes as a parent. Quit giving the kid everything she wants. How in the world would a 13 year old know the pros and cons of this surgery or be able to handle the aftermath. A lock on the refrigerator is much cheaper than a Mexican surgeon. -
Rosie O’Donnell Makes Hurtful Comments About the Lap-Band on “The View”
par1959 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Rosie has never been a favorite of mine. But I feel with her access to the public stating truths about the lap band VS sleeve is educational. Granted her opinion might not want to be heard by those with the band. I have many friends that have been successful with the band. I also personally know several people that have switched from the band to the sleeve. Every one of those individuals more pleased with the sleeve and very glad they made the switch. From that perspective, I agree with Rosie in that a person that chooses the band today did not do their homework. The stats also show this. My Doc rarely does bands anymore. That being said I wish the best of luck to those that have the band. I have seen proof that it is effective. -
At first it was difficult cutting out the booze. However, after month and learning how to cope with life without alcohol I became awake. It was a incredible change. Now people that drink bore me with their same old stories and drama. Since day one I vowed to not attemp to drink until I reach my goal weigh. Keep the brass ring in sight.

Agreed Doc's scale has added lead.

I so enjoy these posts with all the conflicting advice. In one corner some women are so hung up about guys wanting sex, but they still would like the guys to spend the energy and resources to date them. I call this hold me, but don’t touch me syndrome. And in the other corner there is concern over men being afraid to commit to a relationship. After dating the hold me but don’t touch me types, why would a guy want to commit? I recommend a dog, they don’t care about sex and they commit till death if your nice to them

I was tired for a few months. The best advise I can give you is water, water, and more water. Staying hydrated should be your primary focus. I am 4 months out and still have problems with this. Its not that I cant drink fluids, just dont unless its coffee.

Starting new job…how long to stay out?
par1959 replied to NotGoingThere's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If all goes well which is generally the case, I would take a week off after surgery. -
I can no longer ride my motorcycle as far. The down side to weight loss surgery.

Good weight loss before weight loss surgery - should I still get weight loss surgery
par1959 replied to Vabeachlady's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The sleeve is not just weight loss it’s also metabolic. If you don’t know the difference I suggest doing some homework. In short, the answer to your question is get the surgery. -
It’s a tricky question because carbohydrates are in so many things: fruits, veggies, dairy, beans, grains, oatmeal, etc. Rather than worrying about a daily total, I would try to keep the carbohydrates from grain products (cereals, crackers, chips, potatoes, etc) between 30-60 grams daily. As far as fruit 2-3 servings/day is recommended (30-45 grams carb) Dairy- 2-3 servings/day (24-36 grams carb) This gives you a grand total of 90-140 carbs per day. 60 grams total is not enough to allow good carbs, so I would definitely say to aim for more than that. Also remember that “fiber” is technically a “carbohydrate” but actually produces no calories so they can always be subtracted. By the way Whole Foods sucks.

The only thing at 8 weeks that bothered me was apple. I think I didnt chew it up good enough. No problem with apples now.

12 weeks out and I live on it. Got to get my fix.

I was scared to death up until the point that the IV drip started taking effect. Its normal. I do feel regret once in a while, but then I step on a scale or climb a flight of stairs and then asked myself why didnt I do this years ago.

Major Social Functions - How do you handle it?
par1959 replied to MommyMeghan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
AT 7 weeks it should be obvious you are losing weight. If asked I tell them I'm at 1200 cals a day and no longer drink. 99% of people want to help you with weight loss, so not eating isnt an issue. Personally, I like to nibble at those events. But keep your eye on the prize. -
Amount of food...Kinda freaking out!
par1959 replied to snowkitten's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At three weeks out I didnt really feel my restriction. That happened going to solid food. For me most soups are slideres, same with yogerts. Other soft foods you should try is deli meat. Try 3 to 4 OZ of sliced turkey. I use to put mustard on it. At 3 weeks out that filled me up. Another one that fills me up is 1 poached egg on op of a 1/4 cup of refried beans. Top with salsa. At 12 weeks out I still cant finish the eggs and beans. My dog gets the left overs:) -
I am two years out and I need help!
par1959 replied to Sleeved831's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why do people think shakes are the magic bullet? Sure they were a tool to get protein in in the pre-op and liquid stages. After that they are nothing but liquid calories. To feel the restriction one needs to eat dense solid protein. Stay away from all high calorie liquids. Drink lots of water or simular. If you start to get hungry start with a bottle of water and do not eat until you finish the bottle. I have also found coffee is a great appetite supressent. But the acid doesnt bother me like others in this support group. -
Great job, I am also on task to hit 100 at 6 months. Over 84 gone at 4 months

Pre-op liquid diet hell
par1959 replied to I will what I want's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
First off DETOX is a myth made up by naturalpaths. One's liver does a very good job keeping toxins out of your blood. For example, I just lost over 80 in a couple of months. If my fat cells were so full of the toxins as the natural non-science crowd says. I would be dead or close to it. As someone else said drink lots of water and you will adapt to the pre-op diet. -
Go for the apple.
