Why do the surgery if you dont want to abide by the rules. -
What to ask the doctor.
par1959 replied to fuzzywhitebunny's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Deaths are very rare but I did ask that question. I would ask how many surgeries and how many leakers they have had. For example, my surgeons team does about 500 sleeves a year with only one leak in the last 5 years. -
Calorie Intake & Stalls
par1959 replied to RozzieJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are those on this board that say dont weigh or count calories. I disagree, doing both is the only way to track your progress and determine what changes need to be made to keep losing or maintaing current weight. If your stalling the first thing the NUT is going to ask for is an acounting for your intake. Otherwise, they do not have a clue on how to help adjust your intake. Its kind of sad but several in my face to face support group whine about not being able to lose weight , but those same individuals also say they dont have time to track their intake. Sounds like an excuse to me. Also in my support group those that are the most balanced and successful all have two things in common dailey weighing and tracking intake. Personally, I find water is extremely important. Keep in mind this surgery is NOT instant gratification, This is a life time journey you signed up for. Understanding that is half the battle. -
Sure drink straight coffee no additives. Thats what I do. You will get use to it. I now love straight dark roast. It makes one bark:)and is a great appetite supressant. Also the cheepest no calorie drink on the menu.

You should be able to eat just about anything this far out. I recommend logging all food honestly. Its the only way one knows their intake. Sounds like your doing well being down 75 lbs in this short amount of time. Water is the key.

Recommend Blenders?
par1959 replied to Beautiful Mess's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Many feel a blender is a must have. Rule #1 for success is dont drink liquids with high calories. There are those that think juicing is a good thing, but for most of us its a good way to cheet the sleeve. In my opinion, a blender is only useful in the very early stages after surgery. Therefor borrow one or purchase an inexpencive one. -
There are many variations of chili. It a main staple for me. I have it on to about 160 for a 2/3 cup serving. Very filling.

Will I still enjoy cooking for my family post surgery?
par1959 replied to Engteacher's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep in mind this surgery and the change of life style that comes with it, is all about you. You will need to chose between cooking for others or doing whats best for you. If your sucessful you will have a totally different relationship with food and want to stay out of the tempting kitchen. Easy snacky stuff becomes evil if you want to succeed. This is not to say you cant cook a meal or have the occational treat, but it will be a different meal with yourself in mind and treats are few and far between. Throw out the grain and potatoe based food. Those type of carbs are now a thing of the past. If you cant do this, dont have the surgery. Its not easy, but it can be worth it. I love my new self and have become very awake to what my old habits did to me. -
anyone try juice plus supplements
par1959 replied to MindyLynn5's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It sounds like your pre surgery. In the first month post-op concentrate on getting your water in. The different foods will come later including veggies and fruit. -
Post op liquid diet. A shot of hot sauce hurt?
par1959 replied to nprcowboy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You shouldnt have a problem as long as you dont get acid reflux. Try a little and work up to how you like it. -
Does anyone else hate the way they feel after they eat
par1959 replied to Momma_D's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can eat anything I want. Coffe in the morning no problem. There are a few foods I no longer enjoy as much such as eggs. Focus on the positive stuff. I look great and get compliments many times a day. -
Little off topic... but are they any down sides to pot after surgery?
par1959 replied to pinkbunies's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sure an occasional drink or puff isn’t going to kill you. I live in a legal pot state. It was a bad law voted in by dumb ass stoners that didn’t read what they were voting on. The legal price per pound has escalated to 6K per Lb. The stores sell joints for up to $50 a piece. The law also restricted how much one could own and made the driving while stoned law par with drinking. Before the law one could possess larger quantities for only a small fine and driving didn’t carry the same penalty as drinking. I for one have never seen pot do a person any favors. Sure there are those that preach pots cures all, but again in 99% of those I know are just big stoners looking to legitimize their bad decisions. One that has chosen weight loss surgery has to know drinking is a bad idea along with using any type of mind altering substance to achieve long term results. The mental part of weight loss is hard and one has got to learn to cope with life the old fashion way for the best result. -
Could Not Getting in My Water Be Causing this Stall?
par1959 replied to LaceGirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Define stall? Water is very important. However, I see many on this board that dont see the scale move for a couple of days and cry stall. As my NUT says a stall means no weight loss for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks of not losing its time to see a NUT and figure out what is going on. But you need to have an accurate account of everything you eat for them to help you. It's sad ,but in my face to face support group there are individuals that will be in tears because they have not lost the weight they wanted. But when asked to accuratley log their intake they use every excuse in the book as why they cant keep a food log. I log every thing I eat, every day but the weekends. Sure your brain makes up excuses for one to cheat on documenting intake, but one only cheats themselves when they lie to the log. Accuracy is paamount to one success. -
If one follows the rules most of the time, eats what their suppose to most of the time they will lose most of the weight.

Is it ok to stop protein for a couple of days?
par1959 replied to Zane's Mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not having protein for a couple of days isnt going to hurt you. Make sure you get your water in. Water has fixed most issues for me. -
I can chug water on an empty stomache. Wine will go down just fine, just not while eating.

par1959 replied to juls0102's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Why is having surgery in Mexico such a taboo subject?
par1959 replied to jjinWA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
To those that suggest racism, I suggest going back to school. I live and had surgery in the Pacific North West. My surgeon has fixed several Mexican bariatric surgeries. That does not mean one cant get a succssful surgery in Mexico. Many people on this site have and will continue to have success in Mexico. The major problem I find having surgery in Mexico is lack of recourse if things go wrong and no follow up. Sure the price is about 1/2, but you get what you pay for. It was worth the extra cost for me for the added support and follow up care. I can understand the Docs not wanting to get involved with another surgeons work. However, the support group I belong to NWWLC in Everett, Wa is open to all. Doesnt matter where you had surgery. http://www.nwwls.com/weight-loss-surgery-support-group-for-northwest-weight-loss-surgery-patients. See the web page for the support group schedule. I would be glad to introduce anyone to the group that is interested. -

Can I have some feedback?
par1959 replied to iamblessed1225's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
There is lots of confusion on this topic. I quess one could say drinking washes food down quicker, but I have found liquid doesnt go though on a full stomach which causes discomfort. I learned this by accident. Bottom line is do your really have to drink when you eat? Or should you follow your DR's advise? I suggest the later.
