  1. Guess I am lucky. I have never really enjoy pop. I have a root beer a couple of times a year and that is its. By the way I am pre op.
  2. Take a look at the Bariatric Advantage product line. You need the full spectrum of Vitamins and calcium. These you will take for the rest of your life. They are not that expensive in my opinion.
  3. Face it protien shakes suck for most of us. As you say, girl up a take your medicine. I wish they made shakes that were not sweet. I have tried a bariatric advantage protien soup that actually was palitable. It tasted like a cross between miso and split pea. Take a look at their products.

    Confused

Do what it right for you. You have to live with the decision. My surgeon makes it the patients decision. That being said I feel the sleeve is the best approach. You can always get the bypass later. There are less side effects with the sleeve choose carefully.

    Do people treat you different?

I am pre-op. Most of the women that work in the bariatric center I am going through have had one or another type of bariatric surgery. All have been very nice, but in some cases its hard for me to ask them questions about their experience. Some of the ladys have had excellent results, but other still look very heavy. I made the mistake of asking one who was very heavy if the surgery worked for her. She was 3 year post op with a band. In my opinion it did not. As soon as I asked, I felt very imbarrased and felt I might have offended her. She turned around and told me that I should have seen her before, she was somewhere around 50% larger. Feeling like a big dirt bag I congratulaed her knowing we all are different. The problem is other employees that have had the proceedure still look huge and it hard not to ask if they feel it was worth it with out making an ass of myself. This makes me have second thoughts on the results? Is it wrong to ask or how should you ask? Confused!!!!!!!!

    Milestone!

Wings and thighs are dark meat. I prefer the thighs. As for chicken breasts I can understand then coming out dry. However, a couple of years ago I decided to brine a turkey. Turkey breats were alway dry, but using a brine before cooking the entire bird comes out very moist. Has anyone tried brining a chicken or pork? A good dry cure on beef helps make it tender.
  8. Wooow!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am impressed. Very low musle loss. I can only hope I do as well.
  9. Oral laxitives take days to work for me, then it seems I alway over do it. I will heed you advise when the time comes. Thanks

Going in at 9:30 am today

I am going in a9am to be have the scope shoved down my throat, not surgery. Good luck on the day you start a new period in your life.
  11. I have read all my post op instruction several times. I have not read one mention of LOVENOX injections. It is an anticoagulant used to prevent and treat deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, and is given as a subcutaneous injection (by a health care provider or the patient).
  12. My insurance asked for the same information. However, for the surgeon to subit his report my primary doctor had to submit all my medical information. That held me up several weeks and I still dont have approval but have been assured it will happen. Hurry up and weight. Pun intended.
  13. Interesting stats. I have to ask where did this information originate? Some on this board would find your post is negitive, but I find it educational. Knowing these issues are a possibility allows all of us to be better mentally prepared to deal with them. Thanks for the information.
  14. Just curious how long did it take for approval. My insurance is from the same company. Its been over 6 weeks for me and still no word.

    Anyone not tell family?

Weird thread, many here have not lost much weight after surgery. Either they are not updating weight loss or there is some correlation between not telling anyone and good success. I am pre-op and haven’t taken an add out, but don’t really care what people think. It’s a personal choice to better ones self. If others have a problem with that they can go some place where it is hot. Maybe letting people know will help one through the hard parts to prove they have made the correct decision and get back to where they want to be.
  17. I am playing my cards close and not telling many of the upcoming surgery. However, I dont really care what others think. This is my decision, not theirs. I want to feel more healthly and gain more energy. If others cant handle that, so be it.

    Potluck: What to bring?

Try a Paderno Spiralizer and make your noodles out of squash. It works very well.

NSV: I don't float in the pool anymore!

I have always been able to float, even before getting fat. Lungs full of air should make you float. Cant weight to test it out. Pun Intended.
  20. I take my doctors instructions seriously. Why increase any kind of risk.

    question

Irish, I keep asking myself that same question. From the studies I have read most people are still happy after 6 year. Granted many have gained some weight back , but are still at least 50% smaller than when they started. It seems 15 to 20% will develope acid reflux within 6 years. This can be controlled with a prescription. Keep in mind this proceedure statistically has been used for a short amount of time. But in this short time frame they look good compared to the alternative. Personally I know several people that have been banded more up to 11 years and are going strong and recently met a band to sleeve conversion. That individual told me the sleeve was the way to go. Try going to a support group. I like being able to ask those at have been there questions in person.

    Potluck: What to bring?

How about white fish sautéed in a chocolate protein shake reduction? Served on a bed of tofu noodles.

    Potluck: What to bring?

Sounds like a seafood fettichini (spelling) we have all the time. Sounds great with the exception of pasta for some of us. I bet it would taste great using zucinni squash noodles.
  25. Stil preop and enjoy hearing stories like yours. Thanks
