Getting sleeved in the morning
par1959 replied to my40thbdaypresenttomyself's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thumbs up!!! I am right behind you on the 28th. See you on the other side. -
Back in the day 18 years ago, I needed a name for an EBAY account. There was a document labled Production Action Request (PAR). I used the acronim and added my birth years. I have used par1959 as my go to since then. It could also be my over par score playing golf.

A friend of mine had an intere ear issue this week. His description was that everything spun. For instance, at the doc office the little round stool would just spin. He threw up 4 times in the office. He was given a dramimean (spelling) patch which seemed to help. You could try that and see if it works. Make sure to do your vitimins.

Vitamins are not subject to strict FDA regulations. All natural really means nothing. It’s a marketing phase. For example, a man made substance is all natural since man is natural. In Washington State when the GMO labeling law got shut down hard by the voters guess who wrote the bill? Whole foods and several Vitamin manufacturers. For some reason (wink, wink) they made themselves along with restaurants exempt from the labeling law. Turns out even the organic guys can get away with some GMO products and still be considered exempt. Organic growers also use the same BT bacteria that some say is dangerous in GMO corn. One needs a heavy background in science and chemistry to really grasp the GMO topic. As I like to say 1 trillion served and not one tummy ache.

I started day 1 of 7 of pre-op diet. I am allowed 3 to 4 Protein shakes with one 280 to 380 cal meal per day. Not to exceed 870 cals. Pigged out last night for final supper. Steak, Potates, salad and beer. Waited as long as possible to drink first liquid protien drink which was Bariatric Advantage's vegtable Soup. Tasted much better than a protien shake. Sipped it very slowly. Started my lunch protien shake 45 minutes ago. Just sipping along. At this pace it will take me several hours to finish. Yes, a real lunch sounds good, but I am holding up well. Should make it throught the first day with flying colors. Learned that I should pre blend the protien shakes prior to going to work. It took a long time to disolved the powder by shaking.

Extended release anti-depressants
par1959 replied to CharmingTortoise's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Took them for years. I think they will work fine. Remeber your food makes it to the blood stream in the small intestine. Try a google search. -
Please site your facts. I dont believed this to be true. meat give one the best value of protien per volume. Vegtables dont even come close. Soy products come the closest at about 14-15 grams where as canned tuna give about 25 volume `

I have surgery on the 28th. Just had my last console. All they care about for the first month is that I sip water. Eating and vitimins are optional. Yes, you want to do those things but healing and not throwing up are the most important. As my nut said 30 days with just staying hydrated wont hurt you.

What are your thoughts regarding Bananas?
par1959 replied to Butterflyhigh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sure one banana isn’t bad, but it could lead to many bananas. Same can be said for drugs and alcohol. I spent an hour yesterday with my psychologist covering this topic. We will all make mistakes, but isn’t the point of having this surgery to put you in control of eating instead of the other way around? Until I reach my goal weight, I plan on following the NUTs suggestions as best I can. The three rules are no high calorie drinks, no grazing and no alcohol. Once my goal is reached, I will be able to conduct controlled experiments on what to eat measured by my own weight. In other words, I will set a normal block in 5 lbs range. When I reach the top of this range, it will be time to evaluate what I have been eating or why I have been eating more or exercising less. Then make a change. This will take a lot of effort. -

par1959 replied to shavbarn's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am in the same boat. Surgery on the 28th. We have to keep in mind the great benifits that weight (pun Intended) on the other side of surgery. I am very scared and have to work hard to keep a positive attitude. Big leap of faith. -
Just got my date the 28th. I was at the office seeing the shrink. As I was about to leave they told me the insurance was approved and ask me to pick a date. I was not ready for this. Turned out my doc had a cancelation. The office girls could see me turn green when they told me this. I am scared.

One month to go and FREAKED OUT!
par1959 replied to -_Gretchen_-'s topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I dont have a date yet , but soon will. I know exactly how your feeling with one difference. My doc has never killed a patient and had only one leaker and his team performs 500 sleeves a year. Not knowing how I will react in the future has me tore up. I have a appointment with the shrink today to hopefully get tools to help with the fear of failure. Everybody has these feelings. I have been attending a support group which meets once a month for the last couple of months. At the end of the meetings most of my fears subside after talking with those at various stages. But those scary feeling still come back after a couple of days. I have yet to meet a person in the support group that regretted their desicion to have surgery. -

Weight gain predisposition because of WLS?
par1959 replied to Dignity's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The math remains the same. 3500 equals 1 lbs gain or loss. I think the answer you are looking for is, for example one weights 300 lbs it takes approx 3000 calories a day to maintain that weight. As one looses weight the amount of calories to maintain also decreases. When you down to 200 lbs it will take about 2200 calories. The amount of calories needed is also dependent on other factors such as exercise. -
There are many real good decaf teas

Pork allowed on 2 week pre-op diet?
par1959 replied to Teachingmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pork the other white meat. I dont see any reason not to eat it. I currenty make my own sausage and other dry meat products such as Procutto. Did you know if a pig is finished on Barley the meat will contain more Omeg 3 oil than salmon. To bad the pork industry doesn't finish pigs this way. -
Will I be able to get rid of my CPAP machine?
par1959 replied to Bandista's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
According to my sleep Doc, Sleep Apnea is a mental disease that is hereditary and affects 25% of us all. In essence, your brain misfires and doesn’t tell you throat muscles to open and contract. Being heavy just makes it worse. That being said, I read about those that no longer require a CPAP after losing much of their excess weight. Eliminating sleep apnea is also used as a selling point for weight loss surgery. I tend to believe my sleep Doc over my surgeon on this one, meaning that once you have sleep apnea it will not completely go away. I plan on getting a new sleep study when I get to that point. My CPAP is also comfort blanket for me. I am totally comfortable wearing it. -
Becoming depressed after a little over 2 years
par1959 replied to Quel's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I suggest finding a bariatric support group near you and go make an appointment with a psychologist and NUT. You just need a little help to get back on track. We all do at times. -

Big thumbs up. You are a hotty. Cant weight ( pun intended) to get there. -
In my support group this week our guest speaker was a highly qualified physical trainer. She taught us quite a few techniques that one can do with disabilities. To describe them in writing would be difficult. One of the big take a ways I came home with is at work set a timer and every 55 minute get up and walk or do something physical. If one does this they get their 40 minute of exercise in each day. She was also big on using the stretchy bands for building muscle. Many of the exercises she showed up one can do watching TV. The bottom line is you don’t have to use big weights or expensive equipment to benefit from exercise. If I were you, go find a highly qualified trainer and work with them a couple of day a week for 6 to 8 weeks. They work with your limitation and teach you how to exercise properly and have fun doing it.

The reason why I would never consider it, you have no legal recourse if things go bad. However, many do based on price. Dr Alveraz seems to have a huge following and many You Tube success stories. I also feel sucess is increased with a great post op support group. I'm not talking about an on line group. I am still pre-op but attend the monthly support group where my proceedure will be done. I have learned so much and have had all my questions answered face to face with those that have been there and done that. At yesterdays support group we had a very good trainer that works with bariatric patients come in and talk about exercise for one hour. Than a group session for 1 hour. Great information. This support is available for life and its convient for me.

Got to ask, why would anyone want to get their nipples pieced? My wife would never consider it along with Tats.
