May 28-31st Sleeve Week!
par1959 replied to lylabelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Out of surgeryout of surgeryo -
I think there is much to learn from all having bariatric surgery no matter which proceedure. The surgery center I am going through did lap bands for many years. Most of the employees have lap bads. Today the sleeve has become the more popular proceedure, so their program has adapted. With either the diet is the same. Our support group has people that have had the full range of surgeries. Its great to be able to talk with all groups.

After read post for the last month, being cranky is a theme when one starts this journey. As one poster put it she knew when she was hungry because she got cranky. I start my post op journey today. My wife and I have discussed this cranky issue. She is up for the challange. According to her I will get cranky at her first then be cranky at myself for being an ass. That has been the pattern with the pre opp diet. We both know that it is just a moment in time. After 30 years getting cranky at one another from time to time is not a big issue. Just remember you have it in you, so think before opening your mouth as best you can.

May 28-31st Sleeve Week!
par1959 replied to lylabelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seven hour till lift off. Still have doubts, but I am commited. Last night I wrote down all the pros and cons looking for commitment. The pros of surgery outweighed the pro's of not having surgery. But I still feel disipointed in myself for not having the self control to do this without surgery. Keep thinking I should try one more time. But as many have said their only regret was not having surgery sooner. I hope the 27's are all doing great and best of luck to of todays transformations. I will post tomorrow and report how I feel. I have alway come through surgery with flying colors this should be no different. -

par1959 replied to 50lbstogo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Interesting, The center I am going through charges one price and is very up front about it. Doesnt matter if your insurance or cash. Also covers one year of after care with the NUT, shrink and pre/follow up visits. Cost is 21K -
Crazy Memorial Day Weekend (i.e. men are clueless)
par1959 replied to Pamalamb's topic in Rants & Raves
As a dad my kids would have been with me under my supervision. But I understand your situation as a many year president and board member of Little League. In my case it was the parents that would drop their kids off and pick them up late. I couldnt go home until all kids had gone home unless another board member chose to stay. On many occations the parent would show up drunk which created a worse issue. Many an evening I would have to drive both the parent and the child home. Some were belligerent, so they got the choice you get a ride home or I call 911, but the child is not getting in the car. Little League in my opinion is the best value in a baby sitting service going. -

par1959 replied to Unhappysleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Overeating before pre-op diet common?
par1959 replied to flowerpower11's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, it is very commom. I had my last supper a week ago tomorrow. Steak, potatoes and salad with lots of beer to wash it down. The pre -op diet has not been as bad as I thought it would be. I wasnt perfect but close. Down 15 lbs in 5 days. Goal was 10 and I have 2 days to go. The trick for me was specified meal times and practice eating or in this case sipping slowly. I could make a shake last anwhere from 1/2 hour to a one time best of 1.75 hours. There is a Soup put out by Bariatric Advantage that also helped . Less calories than their shakes, but more filling. -
Great write up on how to adapt to eating slow. I need all the good ideas I can get. This is one area where I have concerns. Surgery on Wednesday. When you get cranky its time to eat, love it. Are we related?. Keep up the good work.

I was also told unbearible pain by my doc. If in doubt call your doc.

Recently Lost a Best Friend Because of My Decision to Get Bariatric Surgery
par1959 replied to Sharon C.'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
What a horrible friend. I would say good ridance and never look back. You are in control not her. -
Bariatric advantage has a protien veggy soup that is not bad. I prefer it over the protien shakes. The only problem is its on back order, because its popular. I was lucky enough to find a person with a stash that they gave me.

I am in the same boat. Three days until surgery. My surgeon’s record is almost perfect. Only one leak in many year doing about 500 per year, never killed anyone. The pre-op liquid diet has made me drop many pounds fast, which makes me think I could do this on my own, but then reality sets in and I know I will over eat. Its just a matter of time. Then I start thinking about all the life style changes I will be committing too. How will I spend my now idle time when food isn’t part of the equation? How do I deal with social interactions without food and beverage? No more alcohol. Ouch On the bright side getting my health back will be great. Everyone in my support group says you get more energy and feel much better fast. As you said a few weeks of struggle and everything should be better. I have to say everyone I have met that has had this surgery has enjoyed the benefits. Each one seems to have their own set of struggles, but they are content with their decision. It comes down to taking a leap of faith. If I make it though the surgery centers doors on Wednesday I will be asking for some pre-op drugs so that I dont turn and run. This is tough and I am scared. .

Per my doc heart burn is generally not a side effect of the bariatric surgery. However, there is a small percent that have an issue. The band seems to be the worst.

I got scoped on 5-14-14. Its not a big deal. My voice was deep and I had a odd type or sore throat for a couple of days. Not like a cold type sore throat. Your only out for 10 or 15 minutes. From being knocked out to being awakes was 35 minutes on the clock. For some reason I had a charlie horse in my leg for about a week. I have no idea why.

Thats a complicated question. Women can lose eating 1000 to 1200 cals per day. Men 1200 to 1500 cals per day. The main goal is to eat protien first. No high calorie liquids and no grazing. Remember to get some fiber in

Its taken me about 2 months from when I started to pursue this direction. I have surgery this coming Wednesday. Had it not been for a cancellation a month would be added to the time line.

cheating on pre-op liquid diet
par1959 replied to readyanxiousscared's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How much weight have you lost on the pre-op diet? That should give the answer you seek. I was required to lose 10 lbs in 7 days. I made that mark in 3 days on the pre op diet. -
Don’t you mean WTF? My insurance company has approved me, but they are equally stupid. I just jumped into the pre diabetes range at my last checkup. My insurance would not cover seeing a nutritionist until I got full blown type 2. That is one of the reasons that made me pick bariatric surgery. Insurance companies are void of logic..

Go take cooking classes. They are fun. Once you understand a few basic you can cook most anything. It's not hard to cook protien and veggy's. Highly recommend a good set of pans, knives and a well stock pantry. Currently I am learning how to make cured meats such as fermented sausage and prosciutto type items. Its fun and supising what you can do with a $1.49 a pound pork butt or a beef round.

has anyone else had....
par1959 replied to xtina965's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If its bright red you probably have a hemroid flare up. Dark blood is something to be more worried about. My guess it's caused from smoothies. They go threw to easy. -
