Very encouraging. I want to hit my goal by the year mark. Its going to be close and lots of work. People such as yourself just prove its possible.

I walk 100k steps a day. To do so, set a timer for 55 minutes everyhour. When it goes off walk for 5 minutes. Thats 40 minute in an 8 hour period or about 10K steps. I have found doing this gives me the exercise and calorie burn I need.

Do you count carbs?
par1959 replied to catlover2565's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It’s a tricky question because carbohydrates are in so many things: fruits, veggies, dairy, Beans, grains, oatmeal, etc. Rather than worrying about a daily total, I would try to keep the carbohydrates from grain products (cereals, crackers, chips, potatoes, etc) between 30-60 grams daily. As far as fruit 2-3 servings/day is recommended (30-45 grams carb) Dairy- 2-3 servings/day (24-36 grams carb) This gives you a grand total of 90-140 carbs per day. 60 grams total is not enough to allow good carbs, so I would definitely say to aim for more than that. Also remember that “fiber” is technically a “carbohydrate” but actually produces no calories so they can always be subtracted. I hope this helps! -
First 80 pounds (37KG) were easy, struggling with the final 20....
par1959 replied to Hamish Smith's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am having the same difficulty. My calorie count shows I should be losing weight, but I also admit to letting bad carbs get back into my diet. I am not sure if that should matter if I am counting calories. I have also started a running program and unsure of where my diet needs to be. Anyway I have a doc appointment today to try and figure this out. -
Scallops and mussles are also wonderful. Low cal high pro and taste great.

Am I freaking out for nothing? Help!
par1959 replied to lilyrose245's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
These are all questions for your doc not this site. If your mom is as negitive as you make her out to be take, her out of the loop. Yes, this surgery seems scary until its behind you. I was scared o death until the IV started kicking in. If you really have done your research 99% have 1 regret. That we didnt do it sooner. If you follow the rules you will turn into a new person. Infact you will feel like wonder women ready to take on all with in 4 to 6 months. Maybe even quicker. Hell, Im 55 and feel like I'm in my 20's -
Serious question, is eating bad sometimes good?
par1959 replied to kikicoates78's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
What I have learned is there is no rhyme or reason. The math using calories does not work in the short term. However,in the long run they kind of do. I have gone a week or two with nothing then wake up one morning and 5 lbs were gone. Stay on plan and the weight will come off. -
Taking Ibuprofen and other meds?
par1959 replied to OldMomOf3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Here is the scoop. Many people get acid reflux with makes taking these types of meds hard on the stomach. However, at about week 4 post op I developed gout. Gout is common with fast weight loss. For gout I had the take the strong doses of anti inflammatorys. I had no problem. I also drink lots of strong coffee all day. No problems with acid reflux which is generally the case with a sleeve. Keep in mind many of the rules your doc want you to follow were developed for the lap band patients. -

Get use to it. As soon as the Imodium starts working you will find yourself constipated. It gets better with time -
I had no problem a week out with soups that were ran through the blender. I did find that most were too salty specially the creamed soups. My favorite was campbells navy bean.

Best scrambled eggs ever!

I liked 1 poached egg on some refried beans with salsa at this stage. -
We all have getting cold incommon. For me it is getting better, but I do dress differently. Hasanyne else tried the high end poly/spandex inter wear? Patigonia makes what they call R1. Its spendy but works well. Dulueth (spelling) trading makes a close seconnd which is affordable.

par1959 replied to mi75's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am in the same boat huge stall at about 7 months. Have not lost a pound in a month in fact aI gained a few. On new years day I started restructuring my diet and exercise program and managed to loose a couple of lbs last week that made me even for the last month. We all just have to keep our eye on the brass ring. I love the weight loss but want to lose more. -

I just turned 55 and started running. I have worked out a routine with an older experienced runner that I work with. I am running on tuesdays, thursdays and one of the weekend days. A day between runs is important for us older runners. Two weeks in to this I am running 2.2 miles on each weekday and my longer run is on the weekend. The weekend run will be increased by a mile per week. The weekday runs will be increased to about the 5 mile point slowly. It has been stressed that shoes are the most important item to prevent injury. In other words, go get a pair fitted to you and spare no expence. It is the difference between night and day. Havent really work on the nutritional side of this. My nut at one point mentioned the use of nuts to increases calories and still trying to stay away from simple carbos. I am waiting to see what my body tells me.

I am 55 just lost 110 lbs and also just started running. I had not run more than 1 mile in the last 30 years. So if I can do it anyone can. It is amazing what I can now do after the huge weight loss. On week 2 I am up to slightly over 2 miles without stopping. I don’t run out of air, but my legs get a bit fatigued. With some advice from my running friends I went to a running shop and got fitted to shoes. I am overwhelmed at the difference between running shoes. It is night and day. Sure they aren’t cheap, I spent $170 at Brooks, but my feet feel great. And one can get great shoes for about $120. I just liked the more expensive shoes better. And hey I am worth it. At first I was thinking 5K but in one week can no doubt make that. So I have set my goals higher to a ½ marathon in April with a 10 k in February.

Just follow the program and it will work in the long run.

This being the guy’s room, I think a dinner date will be comical. A girl would never allow herself to eat more than her date. Be polite and let her order first. Then just order the smallest healthiest thing on the menu and watch her push the food around the plate all evening. Feed her lots of drinks. Then invite her over and show off your newly found endurance. When she cries uncle and asks if you took Viagra you can smile to yourself.

How can I get the 60g of protwin?
par1959 replied to Sexy Granni's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most lean meat runs about 7.5 grams of protein per ounce. Eggs are about the same. Add eggs and lunch meat to your diet. Costco has these premier protein drinks that are 30 grams and only 11 OZ. They taste good for a protein drink. -
Sleeve to bypass revision
par1959 replied to mickally's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
In has been my experience that if your gaining weight the rules to the diet are not being followed. I recommend honestly logging your food. If you cannot do this which seem to be a big problem in my onground support group thetre is a problem. It suprises me with how many excuses are used as to why some one cant log their intake. Talk with your NUT. If you follow most of the rules most of the time your will lose most of the weight. True words. -
What were your typical meals for the liver shrinking diet
par1959 replied to jmccape's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Each day I ate 3 protein shakes at 6 am , 10 am , 2 pm then a dinner of 6 onces of the protein of choice and as much lightly dressed salad as I wanted. I dropped 22 lbs the week before surgery. One new years I went back on this diet to reboot. I am down about 3 lbs in 5 days. However, I have lost close to 120 lbs since surgery in may. -
Plain yogurt = *gag*... Help!
par1959 replied to MamaTo3inNH's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
My fav is to mix flavored grrek yogurt with oatmeal. Reminds me of cake frosting. One needs to mix it in the night before eat so that it can absorb the moisture.
