par1959 replied to jennyinky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OUCH!!! Sneezing, caughing and laughing can hurt. Im 3 weeks out and the biggest hole still is tender to those things. Other than that I am healing up nicely. The scars will be minimal. -

Soup as food vs soup as fluids
par1959 replied to Shiner86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the same issues with cream of anything soup. I dont feel so good after eating them and the salt content is over the top. -
I am 3 weeks out and still a bit itchy in those areas. I was always told that was caused by your body healing.

86% will regain the weight they lost after WLS
par1959 replied to Dreamin Again's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Regain how much is the question you want to ask. Once you get to maintanance phase you probably will regain some weight, but unless you really try you will never come close to your top weight. This is a big life style change, dont forget that. Your days of pigging out are over or should be. If you are not ready to make these changes then keep working on the diet only route. Many of us have BP and blood sugar issues that add extra drive to be sucessful. -
Does Vegetable Broth count as a clear liquid?
par1959 replied to Butterflyhigh's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Absolutley. Just watch the salt. I felt like a salt lick after 2 days on broth. -
At week 3 and able to eat lunch meat, ground meat and greek yogurt I find it easy to get in my protein. I am totally off all protein drinks
-
My doc at the 1 week check up didnt care about carolies or protein. His main concern was hydration. The protein will come. Bariatric advantage makes a protein soup that is not bad. It is not sweet at all.

I was allowed 2 cups a day. It definatley kills my appetite

Eating to much of what foods. High cal sliders and liquids will defeat the surgery. -
Ex-Friend Keeps Writing Negatively About Me on Different Blogs and Web Sites
par1959 replied to Sharon C.'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This topic is still on going. The solution if obvious dump the friend and never look back. -
I am allowed 2 cups of coffee per day after surgery. Its a great filler between meals and gives me a boost to make up for low sugar.
-
After 3 weeks I no longer need them. Animal protein works the best for me.
-
Today is day one of the week 3 after surgey diet. Tracked what I ate and easly hit 115 grams of Protein without a Protein shake. 2 eggs, 3OZ of turkey breast, 4 oz of pork, 1/2 cup of cottage cheese, 1 serving of greek yogurt and a few other items. Calories 1100.

Its up to you, but I now have meet several individuals that started with the band and now have been sleeved. All state the sleeve is much better. Keep in mind your mother along with most people are ignorant to bariatric surgery. Do your own research and make up your own mind.

I had mine on the 28th, dont worry the loss is coming. I gained 10+ lbs during surgery. It must be all the fluids.

Do you ever feel like a fraud?
par1959 replied to NothingUpMySleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Does a cancer surviver feel like a fraud after chemo? I dont think so. Same goes for curing this disease. -
Maybe it an age thing. At 54 and 13 days post op I really dont care what others think about my decision. My family is very supportive and I dont make a habit of telling others my medical issues, but if some one does make a negitive comment I am not going to let it bother me. I know they are ignorant and if they press the issue I have no problem telling them so. I got the same thing when I finished raising my kids and decided to start riding a motorcycle again. I swear everyone knows someone that has been killed or seriously injured riding and has to mention it. That can also be said about riding in a car. Big deal, life is full of risks. Happy are those that dream dreams and are willing to pay the price for them to come true.

It sounds like you had a vertical sleeve. There is tons of info on the internet coving this topic. Start with you tube. It's hard for me to believe you didnt research this entire proceedure. I spent a lot of time before getting the surgery. You can drink all you want but if you want to lose weight you need to follow the rules and eat protien first followed by vegatables. No beverages for at least 30 to 60 minute after the meal.

Day 4 try a cream of something soup mixed with water. It worked for me.
-
At that point my doc only cared about me staying hydrated and to stay on liquids.
-
I had to sleep on my back the first day after surgery. For the next couple of days I could sleep on my back and left side. My big whole was on the right side. I think you can make it without a recliner. The pain is not that bad. Try getting your shoulder rebuilt. Now that hurts.

considering bariatric sleeve surgery but so confused if its the best decision.
par1959 replied to Liyamma30's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your family member is ignorant on the topic. This is not vudoo. Had the surgery on 5/28 and have had worse times having teeth pulled. Very little pain. The chances of dieing are like .01. If you dont have any other major issues you will be fine. Pick a good doc. I asked mine specifically if he had any fatalities. He and his entire staff (2 other docs) have not and they have been doing bariatric surgery for 10 years as a team. Actually they have only had one leak issue in that amount of time. -
Week 2: May 27-31st Sleevers
par1959 replied to lylabelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As of day 13 post op I am down 32 lbs which include the 1 week pre-op diet. My energy is a bit down but I find good thick coffee which I am limited to 2 a day helps. Tomorrow, I am switching over to sqishy foods, cant wait. An egg will never taste so good:)
