Very minor topic, but Surgery Scars?

Almost 6 weeks out and sure the scares are visible, but not really noticeable unless your looking. The longest one is 3/4 of an inch. For me I go with the theory that chicks dig scares. It works for my rugby playing kids.

    last meal syndrome

Its normal to have the last supper syndrome. I enjoyed all my favorite foods for a couple of months. There are at least two trains of thought on this:Enjoy it while you can (I miss not ebing able to pig out on comfort food) 2) the more weight you put on before surgery equels the more you have to lose after surgey. Personally , I would enjoy it while you can.

Sleeve Leaks ... Any fatalities reported?

Cowgirl, I have read posts from others claiming to have leaks years after the surgery. However, I have to think in these circumstances it is not a true leak , but another issue. My Doc and his team have been doing this surgery for close to 4 years at their current rate at 500 per year. In all this time, they have had one leak imediatley after post op. One could say that the very long term effects of being sleeved have not been 100% studied, but the effects of a full bypass after years is known. This surgery is less evasive. Bottom line is research your Doc.

    Eating Slowly after the sleeve

I had this discussion with the wife last night. We have decided to start eating at the dining room table instead of infront of the TV. It's a confussing topic because of all the different concepts I have been told. For instance, The physisians assistant I see for post surgical appointments tells me to not exceed a 1/4 cup in one meal (I consider her an idiot, she has been wrong several times and not had the surgery), The NUT tells me 1/2 cup is not an issue but dont exceed 1500 cals per day ( She seems to know what she is talking about), but has not had the surgery) . Then you talk with others that have had the surgery years ago and they will say eat slowly until you are full. I have also heard it is painful to over eat, which I have found not to be true. Uncomforatable for a short amount of time yes painful no. My biggest problem is grazing after eating. Although that might not be koser I do document my intake and do not exceed 1200 cals a day.

    What is everyone eating?

I enjoy steak. Salad is OK but I consintrate or the vegtables not the lettuce. There are many things one can add to Greek yogart. I just tried Kellogs brand. Its tasty. There are a million ways to make eggs. I take eggs to work quite often. Standard is 2 eggs add one wedge of a flavored laughing cow cheese and I will shave in a very small amout of spanish cherizo for favor. 1.5 minutes in the microwave and breakfast is served. If I were you I would start working on eating seafood. It is great when propery prepared.

    Tomato soup

There are two types of liquid diets. One clear the other is for the most part anything that will go through a straw. Tomatoe soup fits into the second category.
  8. I was about 1/2 a cup. For example, two scrambled eggs. I also started squishy food on day 4.

    Question

A cheap blender. I suggest purchasing food as you need it. I found that during the liquid phase I got tired of the different foods rather quickly. Sugar free otter pops and non sugar added fruit drinks were helpful , but dont by the Costco size box. Broth with the lowest amount of sodium is good for a short amount of time. Stay away from salt as best as one can. I turned into a salt lick after a couple of days. Themain thing is to stay hydrated.
  10. Nothing is wrong. I could down water like that at day three. This is typical according to my doc. At this point in your recovery getting your water in is the most important thing to stay on top of. Calory intake is secondary and my Doc told me not to worry about it. You will find as you progress into regular food your restriction will keep you accountable more and more.
  11. In most cases, I feel an in person support group is a must have tool, Weight gain after surgery is due to one not following the rules after surgery. If one falls back into their old eating habits it is easy to sabotage progress. It’s always easier to blame the surgery vs. taking responsibility for one’s own actions. For example, we have a member of the support group I belong to that is gaining weight. She needs to start tracking her food consumption before the Nut or the rest of us can help her. However, she claims to not have time to complete a food log. In other words, she is in denial and not much can be done to help her. The surgery is only a tool; one still has to make the mental changes to be successful. It is not easy, but the healths benefits are great, but carry some draw backs that have to be overcome. In most cases weight gain is due to one not following the rules after surgery. If one falls back into their old eating habits it is easy to sabotoge themselves.
  12. The rule is 30 minute after. Drink all you want before hand. It may seem that most have problem going back to real food, but that not the reality. You just dont hear those doing well complaining. As for protien, I had no problem hitting 80 to 100 grams a day. Sixty is the minimun. eggs are 7 grams each along with most meat is 7 grams per once. Add in some cottage cheese and yogurt and your there easy breezy. Example menu, breakfast: Greek Yogurt with oat meal 10 grams Lunch:3 oz chicken 21 grams and a 1/4 cup cottage 7.5 grams Dinner: 3 oz of the meat of your choice 21 grams Your .5 from 60 grams in a day
  13. At 6 weeks out you dont have to eat turkey or yogurt. Sounds like many of your issue are self owned. Try new things.

    Skipping Ahead

I skipped ahead a bit. I have been able to eat just about anything just after surgery. Is it a good idea, no.

    Gym routine help please

Dont worry so much about loose skin. Balance is what needs to be consintrated on. Because of weight your body has adapted to support it. Now that it is coming off your core will need to handle your body differently. Its very commom for those of us that lose lots of weight to end up with back issues because of this.
  16. You havent messed up. My doc was more worried about getting the Water in and not worried about calory intake. I only could handle creamed Soups for a short amount of time. I doubt I will ever eat any again. Didnt seem to sit well.
  17. You will own the staples for life. They are stainless steel. The doctors tell you not to use anti inflammatory meds for life. I found out that is BS. I came down with Gout on week 3 post op and had to take strong anti inflammatory meds. The truth is that this info is old school but the docs still suggest it. My Doc has not seen an issue with it and he has been doing these surgeries for quite a while. However, you should follow your Docs recommendations.

    Change in tastes?

My taste hasnt changed, but my sense of smell is much better. This has affected my taste for lamb. The fat smells horrible.
  19. Plan on 5 days for the first. Its taken me about 4 weeks to kind of be regular. I still go sometimes for 3 days without and then have a couple of good days. I feel adding oatmeat to the diet helped.

    What are slider foods?

Slider refers to any thing with calories that goes down easy. For example, yogurt it a slider food. One can eat as much as you want without feeling full. However, add some dry oatmeal to it and it will stick to your ribs. Other sliders would be ice cream and soda.
  21. Its a normal feeling. For me the surgery end up being a piece of cake. No pain to speak of and could drink water after waking up.

    Post op soreness

A large portion goes away at the 3 day mark. For me it was about 3 weeks to be 100% pain free.

    Crushing of Pills YUK!

Since day 1 I have been able to swallow pills. Yesterday, I started my mega vitimins. They are huge and I have to take 3 a day. No problems at all.

    Failing miserably at post-op diet

Go straight to your nut and tell him or her your sins. The diet for the most part is straight forward and not that hard. Eating crap can do you in.
