Miserable - Relationship Sucks
par1959 replied to HaddocksEyes's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I quit smoking 18 years ago and my wife still has not. I have tried everything from guilt have our Doctor get on her case and getting mad. So have our adult children. My employeer also offer many quit smoking programs at no cost. Todate nothing has worked. Like you I was or should I say still addicted to food , but have gotten sleeved and like when I quit smoking am getting very stuborn taking this seriuosly and will get to my goal weight and stay there. One thing I have learned over the years is your cant change other people. They have to want to change. Its a battle you cant win. One of the interesting statistics is that you have an 85% chance of getting divorsed after you lose the weight. Thats one way to avoid the spouses smoking. -
Hunger is a weird thing. For me its hard to tell between head hunger and real most of the time.

Husband says no to me having surgery!
par1959 replied to Mich4351's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
If I was your husband the 85% divorse rate after you loose the weight would be more of a concern, or not? 60% is the statistic used to describe how much excess weight is lost by the average person that under goes this surgery. It has nothing to do with remission back to your current weight. Have you husband actually read the statistics. In my case, at 2 weeks out I was off all medications. At 7 weeks my knees no longer hurt when walking up or down stairs. The fatality rate is close to having a tooth pulled at .01%. Complications are low if you go to a good surgeon. My surgeon has had one leak and no deaths. He has been doing bariatric surgery for over 10 years at about 500 surgeries in the last year alone. This surgery is all about you. Dont let others interfer if its your decision. -
Go to Mexico they wont care as long as you have US dollars

I was hungry in recovery. But soon found out I cant eat much.

Pssssst ….. hey guys! You will want to read this ;-)

The site should be a success for a few considering there is about a 10:1 ratio of women to men and odds are 85% the married women that loose the weight from surgery dump the current spouse and move on. Us guys get to be choosy. -
The surgeon is clueless. Yes, you do not want to eat to fast but sandwiches with bread arent on the menu. It takes me about 20 to 30 minutes to eat a meal. However, I have stuffed meals down only to regret it. I work with an idiot physicians assistant that spouts the 1/4 cup BS. It realy depends on what food your eating and how long you have had your sleeve. In defense, I would say a 1/4 is a good place to start while learning your stopping point. AT 8 weeks I can eat about 1/2 cup of protien with veggys, but yogurt goes down in large quantities I I want it too. The trick for me is tracking what I eat. I eat one seving of dairy a day, but if at the end of the day I am below my caroly goal I might have more yogurt and some fruit. Also keep in mind everyone is different and hopefully your surgeon doesnt make your sleeve to small. There are acid reflux issues with a too samll sleeve. 40 french seems to be what conventional wisdom / stats are saying.

At 8 weeks out my major problem is fatigue. I can eat anything for the most part. Keep on the Water hard the rest will come in time.
-
I try to keep dairy to one serving a day which is usually yogurt. However, I have a soft spot in my heart for cheese. It seems to end up on appetizer plates. I will have a few servings of cheese in this setting.

Eat 4 OZ of protein than take a big gulp. You will have then answered your own question.

Why No Drinking 30 Minutes Before or After Eating?
par1959 replied to Asdf12345's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Drinking before a meal is no longer valid. If you dont understand drinking after a meal try it. You'll only do it once. Drinking after a meal has a different result for each surgery, but in the case of the sleeve a big gulp after eating has no place to go but back up. Some will also say that it washes down your solid food, which seems to be more in tune with the lap band. -
First question to ask those people is which surgery did the person you know have. This usually stops them in their tracks. It's pure ignorance on their part. The only ones I know that fail have had the band. This is for many reasons. That is one of the reason I chose the sleeve.

Explaining not drinking is easy. Did you know that one drink stops your weight loss for 3 days? In other words, you will stop ridding your body of fat for per week. A study done by the weight loss group suggests this. The reason in that alcohol stops the production of an enzime required to break down the fat cells. So, you can tell your friends about the parrelles of drinking and weight loss and that you are taking weight loss very seriously and will you do not want to slow your prograss donw by half for having a drink. You can flollow with, you will re-address sodial drinking after you have reached your goal weight. -
Quick answer myth. I can eat about a half a cup of food, but that depends on what food I am eating. One can eat a lot more soup and yogurt than say meat.
-
It has to do with your hormones being out of wack from weight loss. Just think if all those bad hidden in fat cell nasty toxicants were released rapidly you’d probably be dead. Fortunately, one's liver does a magnificent job at removing toxins from your body.

What have I learned from all of this, many adult women do not except responcibiliy for their own actions. Women flirting is OK , but when a man does and the women spread 'em and the relationship doesnt workout its rape. Facts dont mean a lot when one is tried in this court and finally this belongs on Jerry Springer. -

Getting snaked isnt the bad part of a colonoscopy. It the turbo lax you drink the night before thats bad. -
One hint, dont eat Quest bars and switch to real food. 25 grams of carbs per serving. Thats worse than most breads. Read all lables, protein is only one item to watch for. And I recommend logging all food. Its the only way I have found to keep track of what works and what doesnt. I have found there is no such thing as a free lunch or should I say fast lunch after surgery. Sure, some things require less prep , but if you want protein go for lean meat or eggs. There is protein in dairy, but you want to limit dairy to one serving a day. Remember to eat your 3 to 4 OZ of protein first. Eat slow and stop when you are satisfied not full. Its easier than it sound, but with practice following the rules becomes almost a habit. One will still make mistakes and have bad days. One last thing if you cant cook start educating yourself. Purchase a good set of pans and knives, take lessons and have fun with it. Just because one is on a diet doesnt mean food has to be boring.

Different Doctors, Different Rules...pre and post op...
par1959 replied to fccm04's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Day 0-3 clear liquids, day 4-14 anything that would go through a straw as long as it didnt have small seeds and yougurt, day 15 to 30 squisky food. Basically anything that could be smashed with fork. At day 30 it was back to normal food minus high cal drinks and most carbos. The first 30 days my doc was not worried about calories or protein, but stressed water. -

Even if one gained back 30 lbs dumping the high BP and type 2 makes it a win. -
I tried my first dill pickle yesterday, but did not drink the juice. Olive juice always went good with a martini when I was drinking.
