    Public surgeons in Sydney?

hi there, i know that sios in sydney dr taylor performs 2 lapband surgeries through concord hospital in Sydney per week. The cost is 8 thousand dollars this includes post surgery care fills, etc. You go into the hospital as an uninsured patient. there are conditions but i know a few people who have done it and have been really happy. You get around 1500 to 1800 dolloars back thru medicare and safety net etc. Many cant wait for 12 months on private insurance. regards M:rolleyes2:

  4. Hi all, Just wondering if andybody had the same problem after banding as me? I was banded Feb 18th, 2008. At first fill appointment (fill was very difficult and painful) 2 or 3 days after that I experienced a severe reddening around the port scar incision. It was extremely painful Went off to the doctor who performed my banding and was informed that I had an infection which was treated by 2 courses of anti-biotic It went away and now 3 months later has come back again. The doctor has ordered blood cultures to see if anything grows and I am now on 2 courses of anti biotic. I asked teh doctor when I finished the course of anti biotic would be sure that it would nto re occurr and he said he didnt know - it could come back again??? I was wondering if anyone else has had this experience of re-occurring Infection Under Port Scar at all? My doctor says it is not common at all? regards M:lol::teeth_smile:

    I'm finally home!

Dearr Jen, Good to see you are home now.. What a test you have been through - My mum had several strokes and the first one affected her left side - she worked very hard for 12 months and got the left arm moving again. Lots of prayer, lost of patience thats the key. Great weight loss ur have had - very inspiring. I was banded 18th feb 2008. Have also had infections around the port incision which was a bit of a challenge - but it is getting better now. Glad to have u back. kind regards M:rolleyes2:

    Update for Striver

Hi all, Just to let you all know after surgery 18/2 I am fine. Op went well -Day 3 post op - it is today and apart from minor discomfort I feel just so weak. Seem to have a bout of diarrhea since yesterday, but its manageable. I am home with my feet up and being spoilt by my teenage daughters and hubby - enjoying it while I can. I will write a longer detail of the entire experience when I have more energy. Thanks to all for their good wishes and prayers. regards M:smile2:

  13. Hi Everyone,:confused2: Received this email from a lady - Please check your health funds - NOW!!!! ::::::: Received a letter from Manchester Unity today informing me of changes to my health insurance cover. When reading the fine print I noticed that they will no longer cover gastric banding from May 2008. Apparently many other health funds are raising their premiums and dropping coverage for certain procedures such as gastric banding, so for those of you who are waiting for your health insurance to kick in, it might be worth a phone call to find out whether your health fund will cover you for gastric banding! regards M:lol:

hmm, congrats on ur weight loss that is terrific. I suggest find someone with a sewing machine and start taking things in. I was advised not to buy clothes unless u have to whilst ur losing - otherwise it will cost u a fortune... Hang on to those dollars for later on.. All the best adn hope the wedding goes well. regards M:thumbup:

    Changes to Private Health Insurance

Yes it is very scary. If this is the case with most funds it is also so sad to think those that are waiting for the 12 month period to finish in order to get banded may be disappointed. regards M

    Optifast Side Effects

yes ditto D. the bad breath was awful - but the weightloss is wonderful and well worth all the bad effects. I found the peeing like a 9 month pregnant woman a dam nuisance. It is not 4ever - think of all the weight your dropping and most importantly drink lots of Water....and have patience. regards M

  21. Hi all, I am day 14 post op and enjoying the mushie stage - wow what a present after 4 weeks of Optifast. I was just wondering after 6 weeks do we (Laqpbandits) go on diets? Is that our future life to lose weight?? I was just wondering what is next. I was hoping you could all let us know how to achieve great weight loss with the lapband. I did hear from one young lady that I know had lapband she said and I quote; "when she dieted she lost nothing much and as soon as she started eating junk food the weight fell off". She has lost 36 kilos in 1 year. I look forward to hearing your comments and recommendations. kind regards M:thumbup:
