Fenton, I too am very glad you're back. I always look forward to reading about your walks through NY and some of the delightful restaurants you visit. So welcome back old friend. I decided last night that I have been eating just a tad too many carbs and that is keeping my loss at a slow pace so I am going to go low carb for a while and see if that helps. I hope you all have a great day.

Wow! This thread has really slowed down since Fenton took a powder. I hope we don't all go our own ways now. I also use a small salad plate when I eat and I bought a small fork, spoon and knife at a craft fair. They are decorated with beads and are so pretty. I feel special when I use them. They also remind me to eat slowly and not too big a bite. Sometimes I still get in trouble though, like when I get too hungry between meals. Hope everyone is doing well today.

Hi Tess, I did have reflux on occasion before my surgery and the doctor repaired a hiatal hernia during my surgery and he told me I won't have reflux anymore. I hadn't until my last fill. Some say that means you are too tight but I can eat so I don't think that is the case. I haven't discussed it with the Dr. yet I am waiting until my next appt which is my 6 month check up in October.

Hi everyone. I haven't posted lately but I read everyone's entries daily if I get the chance. I am slowllllllly losing but steady so I am happy about that. I've had 3 fills totalling 2.25 cc in a 4cc band. The DR thought I was close to my sweetspot last filling. You know I have noticed that 2 weeks after I get a fill my band gets tighter and then either gradually loosens after that or I adapt to it. I also noticed that if I am upset or stressed out my band gets tighter and I can hardly eat anything but liquids. I also have started taking an acid reducer before going to bed since my last fill or I wake up with acid coming up my throat and into my mouth. YUCK! Hope everyone is doing well today.

"chugging" soup and drinks
wishin4 replied to littlefroggy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Little Froggy and Restless Monkey. If you can swallow in gulps, chances are you aren't restricted. If you were it would just sit half way up your esophogas until it drained through the opening to the stomach. So don't worry about stretching your pouch out. Once you get some fills you'll see what I mean. Good luck to you both. -
Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?
wishin4 replied to whosthatgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Carly, Hang in there. You can do it. In fact, each doctor is different and has his/her patients follow different diets. My doctor only had me on the first day of clear liquids and then a week of soft foods and then regular foods. It sounds great but I haven't lost the amount of weight some of the other people have lost. I am happy with my loss but some would have preferred more weight by now. At your age more weight faster would be okay. At mine the skin wouldn't be so forgiving. :tt2: Good luck to you. -
Wow! We are all so lucky to have each other to bounce things off while we go through this process. Christine, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Special K I know you'll do well on the test and Fenton, what would we all do without you and your well spoken support? I had a fill yesterday and the doctor seems to think I should be very close to my sweet spot now. I'm having lunch with 2 friends today and it will be my first solid food. I must remember to eat sloooowwwly and chew, chew, chew.

Wow! I have been reading the posts from the last several weeks. I have had company as well as going on a vacation so I got way behind. I was afraid I had gained some weight back because I haven't been eating very well, what with being on vacation and all. I got on the scale when I got home and managed to lose 6 pounds while I was gone. I still feel like I eat too much at my meals so I have an appt on Tuesday for another adjustment. I currently have 2ccs in a 4cc band. I agree that you should try a fill Fenton. It is there for your help and you'll be surprised how much it helps you. Good luck to everyone.

Kerri my condolences to you about the loss of your Nana. The 3 pounds will come off quickly so don't fret. Fenton, I am counting on you to hit the big 100. Sharona how great to hit that illusive "sweet spot". I'm still trying to find it.

Well Grammy this isn't a diet. It is a tool to help you through whichever diet you chose. It isn't the end all solution to weight loss, you still have to watch what you eat but if you check out this forum you will read about all the success stories here and you too can be a success story. You'll find the people on this forum are very helpful and nice. Best wishes to you.

Hi Cindi, I think the problem you are having may be that you are eating too fast and taking too big a bite at a time. If you slow way down and take tiny pieces (the size of an M&M) and chew very well until it is mush before you swallow it you should notice a big difference. I have a similar problem if I don't concentrate on slowing down and chew, chew, chew thoroughly. Give yourself a break and eat soups and soft foods for a day or so and then try something solid but take 30 to 40 minutes to finish your meal. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Hi Jan, No you aren't too old to have this done. I was banded in March and I am 60. I am only sorry I didn't learn about this procedure years ago so I wouldn't have had to lose the weight so many times. It is the best decision I have ever made. However, it doesn't take away the desire to eat. It is mearly a tool to help you not eat so much. My biggest problem was portion control and that is not an issue anymore. Good luck to you and keep us posted as to how things go. You'll find the people on this board very helpful and friendly.

I also follow the guidelines, however every doctor seems to have different rules. My doctor says no drinking 10 minutes before eating and one hour after. I follow these guidelines. Good luck to you

Surgery is Mon. (23rd), Please HELP me!!!!
wishin4 replied to rd0127's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Rene, I am not a patient of your Dr but I did want to wish you the best and to tell you to calm down. Everything will be alright. I didn't have to take a laxitive before my surgery I was just told nothing to eat or drink after midnight and my surgery went just fine. Take a deep breath and calm down and you'll be ok. Good luck to you girl. -
Hi Girls, Yes there is an introductions page here is the link: Introductions - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum I hope you get there ok. You can actually start a new post or add a reply to an existing post but if you start at the beginning there are lots of answers to any questions you may be having. Good luck to you both on your surgeries and I know you'll be happy with the results.

Wow Harley that lodge looks awesome. You can do it, just plan for an occasional treat or some drinks. Try to drink something that has less calories in it. Get in lots of exercise and you may be pleasantly surprised when you get home and see a weight loss. Have a great time.

Yes it is associated with sliming. It means literally Productive Burp. If you eat small bites and chew thoroughly, waiting before taking another bite you can avoid the pain and embarrassment of a PB. It helps to focus on your eating while you eat. I have had it happen when I am eating with friends and talking. If I don't focus on slowing down I revert back to the way I have eaten all my life and soon I am abruptly reminded I wasn't focused.

What foods can you NOT eat since the surgery?
wishin4 replied to mphsmommy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, I was banded March 26 and I am able to eat anything. As long as I take small bites and chew well and pause between bites I can eat all the things I have always eaten. I too was worried I would have to give up my favorite foods after surgery but I haven't had to. Of course the amounts have changed drastically but that is what it's all about. Good luck to you Kelly and teacherofk -
Miki it sounds like you may need a slight unfill. If you are taking tiny bites and waiting betweeen bites until you feel ok after swallowing and still having pain then it sounds as though you may need it. I have a tendancy to eat too fast so that happens to me alot if I am not completely focused when I eat. It is hard when you are with friends because you revert back to previous eating habits. I hope all goes well for you and you are ok for your trip.

:biggrin2:I've lost 33 pounds so far.

Fenton you make me laugh everytime I read this thing. I haven't posted in a while but I read regularly. I have had one fill 2cc in a 4cc band. I feel restriction and really have to watch myself to slow down and take time between bites. After eating fast for so many years if I don't concentrate on what I am doing I get stuck. It's pretty hard if I am with friends or hubby and I are out to dinner. So far I have only had to head for the bathroom once while we were out. I am losing about 1-3 pounds a week and that makes me happy. I don't really know if I am full when I eat or just satisfied. I eat much less than before but my hubby thinks I still eat more than he thought I would. I think that is his problem, LOL. I think I am doing great. I've lost 30.5 pounds so far including the weight before surgery. Everybody who posts seems to be doing well also. We all will be success stories soon.

Everyone post your fill dates and progress here!
wishin4 replied to thebonbon's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my first fill today. The surgeon said I have a #10 band which is a 4cc band, he put 2cc's in it. I feel fine and it seemed like I had less to eat for dinner. I ate soup to play it safe. I am looking forward to more restriction. I lost 5 more pounds since the last visit. -
Frustrated and Confused March Bandster in Need of Some Support and Feedback Please
wishin4 replied to Miki's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Miki, I am sorry you had so much pain. I agree with michelle88 and Arley that everyone experiences fullness differently. I too notice if I take too big a bite (usually when I am not paying attention) and don't chew it enough, and then take another bite I am in big trouble. I instantly get pain in my shoulder and a tightness in my chest. I just have to wait for it to either go down or come back up. And it usually comes back up without my doing much. It just kind of slides up my throat and then I feel much better. It's all a learning process for us and each of us has to find how our band reacts. I hope you are feeling better now. I know when I get that feeling I get a whole new respect for the band and take much smaller bites and slow down. I used to be the first one done eating and it takes a great deal of effort to slow myself down. Sometimes my DH will say "slow down" if he notices I am eating too fast.....Kathy
