Taking the first step.. I need advice
wannaBthinsoon replied to Jarod Erb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HI Jarod! I am just beginning as well, but I have read through most of these forums of the past year, and I have seen that they will accept photos of you in lieu of the 5 year weight history. Best of luck to you on your journey to great health and well being! -
Anyones spouse having a hard time?
wannaBthinsoon replied to kenb79's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I hear ya, kbuska. My hubs tried everything he could think of to talk me out of my decision to have the WLS. But, when my mind is made up, it's made up. He knows I am trying to lose a little but before my 5th supervised Dr appt,(just to prove I'm trying)......(one of the hoops). He comes home from work every day mad I didn't make dinner. Um....I haven't made dinner since the last son moved out 8 years ago. Why should I start making dinner now? You are a grown man, you can feed yourself. Oh, and it's an argument every weekend.....he wants to go to the "free" casino BUFFET!! REALLY?! I don't want to go to a buffet! EVER AGAIN. I don't like them, anyway. The food is aweful, and no telling who all has sneezed in it or touched it, or how long it sat out. No thank you. Can't wait to see what arguments we have after I have the surgery. Maybe by then he'll realize I meant it. -
"You're not even that big... I think you need to be like 600lbs..." Wait..WHAT?!
wannaBthinsoon replied to MrsB2007's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
This is so dejavu!! The pulmonologist I saw after my sleep study told me the same thing. He said he would not be authorizing WLS for me, because I am not big enough. He said I needed to be closer to 400 pounds. Wait...WHAT?? Crazy stoopid Dr!! For one thing....I don't need YOUR authorization, Mr MAN!! I know I qualify, and why would I wait till I was that large if I can take care of it now, and achieve health and well being? Some of these Doctors are not very bright. -

I wish I could've done the psych eval early. I suppose I could still, but I am going to wait and use Dr Sabathy at the center. Might just as well do whatever is left to do with them anyway. My Birthday is in February. Maybe this can be my (early) birthday Present! -

Makes sense devoted04. I selected the UHC PPO, which my coworkers who have had the surgery already advised me to get. I pay higher premiums, but only have $750 Deductible and $1,500 OOP maximum, Of course, it isn't in effect till January 1, 2015, so I am sitting on pins and needles. I did start my 6 mo Supv diet with my PCP in June, so that will be done. Got my sleep study done this summer also, and am now on a C-pap. My BMI is right at 40, so once I get the 5 years of weight history from my OBGYN, I should be hitting the ground running January 2!! -
Anyone on here in Kansas?
wannaBthinsoon replied to Julieann87's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm in KCK. Really close to the Pavillion. I live right off K7. Really praying the hoops I've gone through in the last couple of months will help me qualify sooner. still having issues with the hubs accepting this. Every time he sees how much I'm going to be paying for health insurance he tells me to just go back to WW. Yep! That really helped me the last 3 times I went there. They may be one of the reasons why I'm considering the surgery. So many diets in my life destroyed any metabolism I had in my body. Tonight he got home from work upset I didn't make dinner, so he says "lets go out to a buffet" I say no, we have food in the house. So he is moping. then he says "you really are bigger than you've ever been". Way to make a girls weekend. -

The open enrollment package has been sent out, and I'm super excited that Dr Hoehn and KC Bariatrics hosp are both Tier 1 and "in network"!! I never thought I would ever be sooo excited to pay for health insurance, when for all my life we never paid a dime (hubs ins was paid for through his employer, paid 100% of everything, but EXCLUDED anything related to bariatrics...dumb insurance!) I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to click that button to take out the UHC PPO and get this party started! -

Anyone on here in Kansas?
wannaBthinsoon replied to Julieann87's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am in Kansas, and hope to have Dr Hoehn do my sleeve. I went to the seminar 2 weeks ago. What made me laugh, was how nearly everyone was so concerned with when can the start smoking again! REALLY?! You're having surgery to become healthy and you want to still smoke? Anyway...right now I don't have the insurance for the surgery. My hubs insurance excludes it, so open enrollment at my job is next week, and they cover it. So, I will take out insurance with them, and hopefully after January 1, start the qualifying process. Maybe I'll see you there at a meeting. I'll put a photo of my up on here as soon as I have one that isn't all chins! lol Here's to a healthier new year!! -
Waiting for my approval from United healthcare

From your lips to Gods ears! (as they say) I am hopeful I have some wonderful mentors who have been through it, and are coaching me. -

wannaBthinsoon replied to soontobeskinny2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All the ladies I work with who have already been through this tell me I am worrying over nothing, just get to the appointments, keep seeing my PCP every month so he can honestly say I did a Dr Supv diet (ha! I've been told not to lose), and the bariatric center of excellence will get me approved. It seems everyone at my office has had it done, or is in the process. The waiting for open enrollment is KILLING me! I just want to get this party started! -
Waiting for my approval from United healthcare
wannaBthinsoon replied to soontobeskinny2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
New here! I really gotta know...what are they looking for with the 5 year weight history? Since I have been on a diet since the day I was born (it feel like it anyway) my weight has been up and down, could never keep it off. But in 5 years I am certain some of those years are less than BMI of 40. Can anyone shed some light? I've done internet searches, and can't find anything to tell me what they are looking for. I am BMI 41, sleep apnea, and upon open enrollment in October, will have UHC, also. -
pulmonary / sleep study
wannaBthinsoon replied to Angelkeeper4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw the pulmonary doc today to order my cpap machine. He said, "you need to take off the weight so you don't need this". I said, that was why I was going through all this, was to be approved for wls. He said, "well I generally don't sign off on wls if you are less than 400 pounds". (WHAT??!!) I currently meet UHC's BMI, so I don't really need his "clearance". I had this done for my comorbidity if I needed one. I am at 41 BMI. What an ignorant medical professional! 41 BMI and he said I was too small, but I need to lose weight. I'm 52! You think I haven't tried anything else? Oh! I was shocked at his stupidity! -
Sleep Apnea
wannaBthinsoon replied to 5BeautifulDays's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi folks! I'm new here. I have not yet been sleeved, am in the process of hoop jumping. I won't even have insurance before open enrollment in Oct. But I have a question about sleep apnea. I did a sleep study, and as it turned our I have it. Now then...I now hit 40 BMI and have sleep apnea. Do most ins co's (UHC) require I be "treated" for it, of simply just be diagnosed with it? I panicked when they tried to put the mask on me during the study. Thanks in advance!
