He didn't at first. He does now. In fact, he is telling people now, and helping me pick up stuff I'm going to need. He recently retired, so he is practicing bariatric recipes. It's super cute. I didn't word it right. So, yes he does now.....whole hardheartedly. -
Well, being "sick with doubt" doesn't sound like the way I'd want to be rolled into the OR for a procedure. Maybe pray on it, if thats something that helps you, or postpone it and have a meeting with the surgeon and invite your son to attend so he can be educated. You could always reschedule once he has a better understanding. Or once his fears are alleviated.

All surgeries have risks. Morbid obesity is a disease, not unlike a cancer. If you needed a surgery for cancer to extend your life, even though it was a risk, you'd do it, right? I know I would. It's wonderful he loves you so much, that he worries, but does he worry that if you don't have this surgery he may not have you to worry about for much longer. (that is harsh, I'm sorry). I refuse to let anyone guilt me into changing my mind. I've done the research. Heck, I've seen so many utube videos on this surgery I could almost perform it myself! This is not an experimental surgery. There is a lot of research that has been done on it, and it is not only life changing, it is life saving. I hope your decision ultimately has you living long and healthy so you can spend as much time as possible with those who love you. All the best to you. Sherrie

Verdict is, UHC says I meet all requirements, and all I have to do now is meet the Bariatric center requirements and set a ,date! So I need to do the psych eval, EGD, dietitian appt and nutrition class. Then it all gets submitted for approval. I was told by UHC that she expects I'll be approved in the next month or so. YAY!!! -

Eye opening article! You know I believe many of us have that fear of gaining it back, and this article is that FEAR on a monumental level. I will not go to those fast food places, even as large as I am now, I won't go there. But a surgeon, psych, nutritionist and dietitian will be there for ME, so this does not happen to ME (today it's all about ME, by the way. HA!) I will be compliant, and thank GOD for a strong support group and community such as BP!

Ok, y'all......I called this morning, answered all their questions, and I now have a case ,manager named Rebecca. Calling the surgeon's office in about an hour once they open. Here I go!!! praying for this so hard!!

"Fat Acceptance" Did Me No Favors - Meandering thoughts about my psych eval
wannaBthinsoon replied to Sharon1964's topic in Rants & Raves
@@Sharon1964 Your post touched me. You and I have alot of the same "issues". I've dieted since I can remember, and fail, fail, fail. At the expensive Diet conglomerates I'd lose 50 pounds, or 60 pounds, and then stop losing, have a plateau...and they would accuse me of cheating. Tell my I was lying to them. So, after seeing all the "FA" on TV, with actresses, etc....I tried it. I hated every minute of it. The bullies calling names as a kid, the whispers from strangers, the innocent children who ask.....why are you so much bigger than...so and so? Tired of it. I should have my psych eval at the end of the month or early Feb. I still have a fear the psych will tell me....just accept it, you don't need surgery, just eat less and exercise more....or I'll fail AGAIN, as I have over and over again. I am mentally ready to begin my new sleeved life, when food no longer controls me. I can't wait to get started to be healthy!! -

Had my phone apt with UHC nurse Rebekah from Minnesota. Very nice lady. She said I met all criteria. Only thing left for me was to meet with the Dr, do a psych eval, and any labs the KC Bariatrics center required. She anticipated I would be sleeved in 2 months or less. YAY ME!!

I had BCBS of KC and they excluded WLS for any reason, even to save a life. I decided to take out my own policy this year which covers it. There's more than one way to skin a cat (sorry cat lovers, just an expression) -

I did 6 months starting in June in preparation for this, so my PCP provided me with those notes for the Bariatric hospital and UHC. I also had a sleep study over the summer and was diagnosed with sleep apnea, and now use a cpap, which is a co morbidity, and will help me be approved. I have my 1st consult with UHC case manager, and my 1st surgeons appt on 1/26!! I;m on a roll!!
