    EGD?

    lucky you!!

    EGD?

I believe this is a requirement for everyone. To look for hernias, and to check for H-pylori, and get you on antibiotics before the surgery. You want to rid your body of the h-pylori. Lots of people have it and don't even know it, and it is a real problem for the old tummy.

    New to fifties group

I got my psych clearance! My EGD is next Friday, then the nutritional class is the 25th! Only a matter of time now, whenever UHC approves the surgery. Hope it's soon.
  6. Smoking causes ulcers, and there is a risk of not healing properly, which can cause leaks. Just sayin'
  7. UHC doesn't care if you had a loss or gain just that you went every month.

    Need support!

Well, this site is a great support group. Also the bariatric center you use should also have a support group that meets a few times a month. You also should have a psychologist working with you, along with your dietitian, and nutritionist and surgeon. You are not alone, believe me. There is a "team" of professionals who work with you to help you achieve your goals. And when your Dad sees your awesome progress he will have no choice but to jump on board the support train. Best of luck to you in your pursuit of great health.

    Need support!

Even though there are risks, they are WAY less than many other surgeries out there, or even obesity itself. PLUS.......technology and surgeons expertise has improved greatly over the years, and it is a much safer procedure than it used to be. The complications you hear about these days are nausea, vomiting, and (rarely) a leak. Getting healthy is the goal.

    Need support!

Welcome! You mention your Dad is against it, and will be mad and distant with you. Are you an adult. I don't mean to insult you but, if you are an adult, it's your decision, not Dad's. Does he not want you to be healthy?

    Syntrax Nectar...all of them.
  14. Syntrax Nectars seem to really be the best tasting.
  15. I told my sister. I wasn't going to, but she was trying to convince me to buy a new bread machine (that makes homemade noodles! OH BOY! I really need more bread and noodles!) I told her, don't need it, doubt I'll be making any bread or noodles for a long time, if ever again. She said..."WHAT?! ANOTHER DIET?!!" "HOW long will this one last???". I told her about my decision to have gastric sleeve surgery. THEN out of her mouth came........."EWWWWW!! Have you thought that through??" um, yeah, I didn't just wake up this morning and say...hmmm I think I'll have major surgery to remove 85% of my stomach sometime after the first of the year. Note to self. Don't tell anyone else.

I'm done telling folks. They don't get it

@@Karunch Good for you! You know what you want, and you can do it! It's your decision. People are so funny, aren't they? They just think they know what's best for YOU. And that you cannot make the right decision for YOURSELF. You, my friend, are WORTH it. Take care of yourself!! That's what it's all about!

Required 3 years of medical records

Luckily my insurance ,UHC, doesn't have that requirement anymore. Check with your insurance co. The Bariatric center I am going to tried to tell me I'd be denied due to the low BMI's. But I called the insurance co and it is no longer a requirement. YAY for UHC

    My Story to help inspire!

Very inspiring. Thank you for sharing your story. I should be sleeved pretty soon, possibly end of Feb or first of March. I was advised by the psych to have realistic expectations, and would I be ok if I could only lose 80 pounds. I said, well, I'd be much more comfortable for sure, and more active. So, in my mind I am saying, no, I need to lose 120 pounds, but 80 is a great start. But I won't settle for 80.

    Hello guys, some questions :)

It should be submitted to insurance tomorrow. I met all insurance requirements as of Saturday morning with the psych. I will be calling them to make sure they submit it. It is supposed to be approved within 5 days, and surgery is generally scheduled 2 to 3 weeks after approval. So very soon.

I'm done telling folks. They don't get it

hi! This thread has gotten a little bit of attention, and I have enjoyed reading everyone's comments. My sister. oh lordy. I called my Mom yesterday to check in, make sure she's ok (she's 85 and has had some pain in her hip and won't see a doctor) Mom said she's ok, she sounded great, we talked about her day, then she said she had talked to my sister earlier who said her daughter in law has a friend who recently had this surgery and can't stop throwing up. I said "ok, Mom. This is why I didn't want to discuss it with anyone. So, from now on, no more discussion about my upcoming surgery, or my doctors and my decision to do this to improve my health and wellbeing". For crying out loud! I have a great support system with my hubs and my son, and good friends plus great work friends. AND there's the support group at the Bariatric center of excellence I go to, as well. I don't really need my sisters input. She is not a supporter, She is a negative nelly. (she is my older sister too, so it's not like she's a kid. She's 59 years old!!)
  22. I ran across this thread this morning when I did a search for "afraid I'll fail". I know my surgery is coming up pretty quickly now. Things have started to move pretty fast. The psych told me my bad habit of grazing will "ruin" any chances of success. So, I am taking some time to make those changes now. I work an odd shift, I wake at 2am I arrive at work at 4:30am, and don't eat until 5am or 6am. He completely understood why I wasn't losing weight. Waiting 4 hours after waking to eat, then having CRAP to eat (carbs) and no Protein till noon, then grazing when I get home at 3pm is the reason I gained all this weight. Now I have to change it up. I began today to make that change. I do not want to fail. I really need to succeed. I want to enjoy my life in a healthy way. Please feel free to comment on this. I need the help and support.
  23. I am almost certain the 6 months pcp supervised diet is strictly to observe whether or not you will go to appointments as scheduled. It didn't matter at all whether I lost or gained. Only that I went.
