Best decision ever
wannaBthinsoon replied to holliwood1980's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for sharing! I am still waiting for approval, but I cannot wait to be on the other side. I also intend to take off 6 weeks, even if it is just to get my mind wrapped around the eating, drinking and Vitamin taking schedule. In my job, I tend to be dragged to meeting after meeting, without concern over "did I get a break or lunch" today. One day I told my department manager I wasn't going to attend one of the meetings, because I didn't get my lunch. She said....I never get my lunch, it's one of the sacrifices you have to make to be a manager here, (my doc would not agree). So, at least I will be able to have a Protein shake or something in a case like that. But you can probably understand why I want the full 6 week.s I need to de-stress too. And Congratulations on your success. You are an inspiration! -
Yes, last year it was for sure, a requirement. This is the first year it was removed from the list of requirements. The requirements now are 6 months supv diet visits with PCP, 40 BMI or 35 with co-morbids and psych clearance.

UHC no longer requires your weight history...5 years or otherwise. I know they denied a few people I know last year due to that requirement, but this year it was dropped. I assume all UHC,

Sleep studies & now the wait begins for insurance approval...
wannaBthinsoon replied to carriesherdreams's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mine was also moderate, and I did have to get a cpap machine. Now I actually sleep all night long, and wake up refreshed, where before I woke up tired. Cpap masks have come a long way, and not all of them look or feel like torture devices. lol Mine is cute and pink and I use the "belle loops" just around my ears to keep the nose mask on. I can sleep on my side or stomach and no issues. You get used to not breathing through your mouth VERY quickly. But once I have the surgery and lose the weight, I wouldn't be sad to give the dang thing back. -
Oh no @@Melanie36 The food Network?! REALLY?! That really should be banned at bariatric hospitals!!

Ever since they took my soaps off the air, some of these threads are a pretty good substitute. I imagined I saw some hair pulling, and some name calling, and hair flipping going on. We are a support group. But start up a thread where you admit you are cheating can cause some real people with real feelings want to jump through these pages and make you see the light. I am truly happy you postponed, because as I said a few pages back, IMHO you aren't ready. Maybe you are now. But the people who have been there and done that know what a mistake it would've been to go ahead with the surgery if you had cheated. Do you realize the liquid diet is to shrink your liver? If your Doc gets in there and see's a fatty liver, he may close you up and say...come back when you're ready. OR...a Greedy Doc will perform OPEN surgery and gut you like a fish. Afterall...You signed a paper that said he could. So folks are just looking out for you so you have the best and healthiest outcome. All the best. Sherrie -
Not really sure I'm happy with my gastric sleeve surgery choice
wannaBthinsoon replied to pinklady08619's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to attend a 2 hour class with my bariatric centers nutritionist to explain every part of the new way of eating from pre op to years down the road. In fact it is a requirement that you attend before they will submit to insurance for approval. It is spelled out very clearly. I am sorry your center did not provide the necessary information to you. I feel very fortunate in that respect. Best of luck in learning what you need to know -
The psychiatrist was super nice, and was able to figure me out pretty quickly. I am middle aged, non drinker, non drug user, rule following perfectionist, who hates waiting. I was wondering if anyone knows any reason why a psych would not give clearance. I personally think I'm pretty normal.

@@laurenella82 So glad to hear you are doing fine. Your Dad sounds like my hubs. I am imagining him saying the same thing when I wake up in recovery.....In my mind I can hear my husband say..."you don't look any smaller to me!" lol

Anyone try hormone replacement therapy
wannaBthinsoon replied to My Bariatric Life's topic in The Lounge
I've been on an estrogen patch for about 25 years as well. Had a radical hystectomy...had it all removed when I was pretty young. I saw no reason to keep any of those parts, since I didn't want children (I had 2 beautiful step sons). I keep asking my OBGYN when I can get off of them, and he says not till I'm in my 60's. I'm 53 in 2 weeks. Once I have to stop using the patch prior to surgery I am afraid of how I will feel, what I will go through since I've never experienced menopause. But if I could stop altogether I would. But, he says I need if for my bones (hmmm, who knew?) -
Happy birthday? No, not Happy! Rant
wannaBthinsoon replied to Jazmundo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven't had the surgery yet, but my pre op liquid diet is my birthday week at the end of Feb. The things we do to get healthy, right!! @@Jazmundo I am really happy to hear you called your doctor right away before the dehydration got a good hold on you. I'm looking forward to reading how much better you feel once you are back on your feet. Take care, Sherrie -
You can actually GAIN weight if you have too much protein. So you need to be careful to stay in the range the Doc tells you. Plus it's hard on your liver and other organs to process so much protein.

Should I send the hubs home, or have him stay and wait?
wannaBthinsoon posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hubs is a worry wart. I do believe some friends from work will be there to wait for me to go the recovery room, for support. So, he'll have people there who know me that he can chat with. But, last time I had surgery, when I came out of the anesthesia, I was a raging b*tch. I don't want to be that way toward him. It's bad enough that he is "having" to support my decision to do this without yelling at him right out of recovery. I think this happens because of the estrogen thing. You see.....I don't make estrogen. Had all that stuff removed 30 years ago, so I wear a patch. From what I understand, I have to not wear my ""sanity patch" for 2 weeks prior to surgery and 2 weeks afterward, to avoid blood clots. So I will go through menopause, which I have never had to do in my life so far. (I'm 52) What do you think. Call him when I'm sane? Or just hope for the best, and make him stay? He'll be a worrywart no matter what.
