    drinking after surgery

@@mspal Do you have a nutritionist? What about your surgeon....have you discussed this with them? Also, there are tons of threads in many of the forums (mostly the pre-op ones) that talk about the drinking. From what I have witnessed from friends who have had the surgery, they do struggle at first with liquids, but once the swelling from the surgery is down, drinking is no problem. If there are some veterans on the boards this morning, I am sure you will get some good advice today. Best of luck to you!

    Hello

@@waynejr83 Hi! you mentioned your surgery was next month. April what? Mine is April 23rd. I have 1 week of liquids pre-op. (I feel fortunate that it is only 1 week). One concern for me would be the 2nd hand smoke at the casino. Are you among the crowd or up in a secret room looking at tv screens? (I just quit smoking a year ago, so smoke of any kind "freaks" me out). I don't want to be around it because it was such a horrible addiction for me, but also from what I've heard about not healing due to the nicotine, which is why I quit so early in my process. My employer will allow 4 weeks off (1st week of pto then 3 weeks at 100% pay Short Term Disability pay) So, I'm opting for the most time possible, to re-learn new eating habits. I don't think I could concentrate on myself and doing what I'm supposed to be doing if I was at work. Someone is filling in for me, so I have no issues with not being there. They say it takes 21 days to develop a habit. Drinking all the Water, eating Protein first, not drinking while eating.....those are all things I have tried to do pre-op, but admit I have not done great. I am hopeful that once I am not hungry, and recovering from the surgery, it will sink in. I am a rule follower, so I am imagining I will do well. I used to be a "champion" dieter, just not a champion at keeping it off. This will be my lifesaver, thanks to all the support I get here, and from other support groups I belong to. Oh, and my hubs.....who will help keep me on track. All the best to you on your journey to great health!

  10. @@Big Opie Welcome! You appear to be in the right place. I am old enough to be your Mom, but I totally feel your pain. I'm right there with you. I broke a chair last Christmas at my sisters house, in front of EVERYONE! Read through the forums...the titles may spark your interest. There are a lot of really amazing, wonderful people here who are always willing to help, encourage, and provide you some tough love if you need it. I have been on BP now for nearly a year, my surgery is mid April, so I have been "educated" on some things we don't talk about at the nutritionist visit, or Psych visit. Do yourself a favor, and have a sleep study done, and get it overwith. Even if you don't have sleep apnea, it's a hurdle you'll get over ahead of time. Plus, if you do have sleep apnea, you NEED to have your CPAP with you at the hospital for after surgery, so you do not have sleep problems there. Have you already discussed this with you insurance company? Make sure you find out their "requirements", sometimes you can double up, and get many things done pretty quickly. Best of luck to you on your journey to great health. Keep in touch with us. Now that you've introduced yourself, we'll want to keep up with you to know how you're doing.

the wait is going to kill me...

I began my journey on 4/1/14 (I quit smoking for the sole purpose of having this surgery). I didn't have insurance that covers the surgery (my hubs), so I intended to take out insurance thru my employer in October 2014. (which was not in effect until 1/1/2015). (This was the time I had to ....um....put on "a few" pounds). On June 2, 2014 I had my 1st of 6 PCP appointments to record my weight and discuss diet and exercise. On July 3rd I had a sleep study, found I had sleep apnea...2 weeks later I had Pulmonologist appt, and picked up my CPAP. On Jan 2 2015 I had my first appt with the Bariatric Center.....Had my Psych visit on 2/10, Had my Nutrition class on 2/11, my EGD on 2/25, approved 3 days after the hospital submitted it to insurance and I am awaiting surgery on 4/23. So, in all actuality, this process took me a year and 23 days. (disclaimer.....I will not start smoking again! This is all about ME and good health). The waiting will not kill you. As fast as time fly's, it will be here before you know it....then you'll say...."where did the time go?!" Keep on keeping on!

the wait is going to kill me...

@@lauren8486 I had to do the same thing. I was not quite heavy enough for insurance to cover it. I had to gain. Now I am miserable, also. My surgery is 4/23, THANK GOD! I want this weight GONE! I just cannot wait to not be hungry, to not enjoy food, to watch the pounds melt away. That may a little over-dramatic..but I get it! Hang in there. I think you and I are on our way to slimness and good health.

    More on Crazy Penny

Never seen it, but I hear people talk about it all the time at work. I don't understand why a show about obese people is such a huge draw. But everyone at work talks about it non stop, always putting down Penny. So sad.

Hello and welcome to our newest forum!

So, what is this forum?? I found you under new content, I don't go to specific forums. I just look at who started the thread, or who responded to it, or if the title interests me. I will admit to posting in the guys room. I guess being married for a million years and raising 2 boys (men) I felt entitled. That, and nothing offends this old gal.

    Losing weight from where?

nothing works! I've tried everything!! the big bra, the body shaper (that I didn't know went up from the bottom, till it got wrapped around me like a rubber band, and I couldn't struggle out of it). The hubs got a BIG laugh out of that! He had to tug it off of me! HA! Sooooo ready for this surgery!!

  23. @@matt1912 You, sir, are an inspiration!
  24. I had to look at my pre-op instructions again. I am supposed to have 4 Protein shakes a day, and fill in with broth, Water, SF Jello, SF Popsicles, Crystal Lite, G2 Gatorade. Mine starts on 4/16. Only a week. I plan on sleeping when I'm not at work. And dusting I definitely need to do some dusting. Keep my hands busy and the house clean.
