6 days to go. . . Pre plan for?

We went to the grocery store, I did all the laundry, I set up my "temporary" bedroom on the first floor, so I wouldn't have to climb into the tall king size bed on the 3rd floor. (super glad I decided to to this!!). I got the vacuuming and dusting done and got the little bit I'd need for an over night at the hospital the night before. Nothing was forgotten, and I was all set when I got home. I had everything I would need, as far as liquids for after surgery. Oh, and I went to the hospital pharmacy beforehand also, and got my lovenox syringes so I wouldn't forget those. (super important to not forget those!)

I've decided I want to have the sleeve

@@ThruChristICan All the best to you on this journey to great health and long life. I had my sleeve surgery last Thursday. I never waivered. I knew what I wanted last year, I jumped through a years worth of hoops, and got what I wanted. I am recovering now at home, and have no regrets. Keep reading. The Pre-gastric sleeve forums are great, lots of questions and lots of answers and advice. Today I am 4 days post op, and I had tomato Soup with skim milk (not water) mixed in, (3 tablespoonsful) And I feel wonderfully "satisfied". I've been wondering when I would know if I was full or hungry. Today was the first time I felt it. I felt "satisfied". Satisfied enough to know it was enough, and not eat more. That is a BIG WIN!! Keep posting, asking questions, reading, and I will follow your journey!!

    I blew it

    2nd week post op

I get to add soft foods on day 7...re-fried Beans, soft egg, and cottage cheese are added to my purees.
  8. @@Courtneyxo17 calm down and breathe! My surgery was last Thursday. I can tell you what my experience was day of surgery...I woke up, got my shower with their shower soap, got to the hospital when they told me to, they bumped me up to an earlier time. I got to the room to change into a gown, they got an IV in me...I thought I'd be waiting around an hour or so.....but nope...they said, we bumped you up again. No time for nerves. right after they said that, next thing I know I am in recovery. Easy Peasy. While it is major surgery, it was the easiest surgery experience ever. They provide the very best pain meds ever, too. You can do this. just walk into that hospital with confidence, and optimism and you will do just fine. The only pain I had was where the drain was. Once that was removed, it was all uphill! (I walked within an hour of being moved to my room, too!) Best wishes to you for a speedy recovery!

    UHC & pre-op diet

@@mclorrie the time will start to fly...I promise. Then it'll be surgery day, you will be in recovery before you know it saying...I can't believe I really did it! At least that was my experience. I still can't believe I really did it!!

    Getting sleeved in the morning!

@@jjflamingoVSG I am just starting purees, so I've been on Clear liquids this whole time. Applesauce is wonderful. I don't have my follow up visit till Thursday, so I can't be released to go back to work before then. He and I already discussed the amount of time I intend to take, and he was fine with it. Taking the extra time is time for me to get adjusted to this new lifestyle, know what to pack for a lunch, get out and buy a new tiny lunch bag, and get some clothes that fit. I can't believe how much I have lost already! But my staples have to come out, and I need some time for me. I've been on the treadmill daily, trying to remain active.
  11. Thursday!! Today is Sunday. OMG! It has been a long, hard road with many hoops to jump through, and now, "suddenly", it's here! I am nearly there. I am nearly sleeved. I'm nearly having a difficult time with pain from a drain, and not able to drink a bottle of Water at one sitting. I'm nearly barely able to eat a tablespoon of greek yogurt at a sitting. My life is nearly changed for the better. One day soon I will be searching my closets for smaller clothes which I saved back from when I was smaller. I'm so excited to begin this journey to health and happiness, I am nearly able to polish my own toenails, to lace up my shoes. Nearly able to run up a flight of stairs and not be winded and keep up with my grand kids. It's Sunday...I'm nearly there!

    Sleeping After Gastric Sleeve Surgery

I'm sleeping in the spare bedroom downstairs away from hubs and pups. I am generally a side or stomach sleeper, but am sleeping fine on my back. I stack pillows in such a way that it props me up some. I'm so comfortable that I wake up in the same position I went to sleep in. I told my hubs I like it down here, I think I'll stay in the spare bedroom. He didn't like that idea too much. Don't buy a recliner, unless you really think you need a recliner. If it is just for your comfort after surgery, get pillows instead.

Its hear, Surgery at 9:30 (OMG)

@@pampam12 I slept like a baby the night before, but I really never worried. I had my surgery last Thursday. My surgery was originally scheduled for 11am. But I was bumped up to 10am. So, I got there at 8:30am, and I barely had my clothes off and into a gown, with my IV before they said...we're bumping you up again, because we can;t get IV's in two ladies. So I was whisked away to the OR, and all I remember is waking up in recovery. My pain level never got above a 6, but I had a pain pump to manage my pain. The only place that hurt was where the drain was (the tube goes across your diaphragm) and the site where the stomach was removed. I walked 1 hour after being moved to my room, and I got up to walk every 2 hours. I went home the next day at 8am. I have been following the diet religiously, and walking on the treadmill 20 minutes a day since coming home. Attitude is everything. Go in tomorrow morning READY for your life to change and your health to improve. I feel better already. Wishing you all the best, and a speedy and painfree recovery. Editing: I forgot to add...I don't feel hunger. I can't tell if I'm full. I just follow the suggested amounts (2 tablespoons) and no more, to be sure I don;t overeat and get sick. Have not been sick at all.
  15. @@AvaFern Indeed!! the BEST drugs EVER!! And they sent me home with two bottles of some awesome pain relief. I am being kept VERY comfortable and happy!! I just cant say enough good things about my experience.

    UHC & pre-op diet

I understand completely. I was too.
  17. @@debbie813 I just had my surgery last Thursday. My advice is to stop being nervous. These surgeons have this procedure down! I went in on surgery day, barely got my clothes off, a gown on, and IV in, before they said....we're bumping you up, can't IV 2 ladies, so you;re next. Next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery. I truly believe attitude is everything. When I went in I was not worried, and I had every faith in my surgeon. My pain level never got above a 6. Since I've been home, I've followed my food plan, been walking on the treadmill, etc. I am one of the lucky ones, but so can you be. Wishing you all the best, and a swift and nearly painless recovery!

    My Surgery is on Thursday!

@@Joz31 so that was YOU! (kidding) I am sorry you had a tough time with that. It's over now...WE DID IT!! Now it's just a matter of healing and following the food plan to lose the weight and get healthy. The bumped me up again when I got there. I barely got my clothes off and they said...bumping you up again, can't get IV's in 2 patients so you are next! I was in my room before 11am. I didn't have enough time to even get nervous or worry. I got my clothes off, the IV in and next thing I knew I was in recovery. My pain level never got above a 6. I was one of the lucky ones!

    UHC & pre-op diet

I have UHC and my preop diet began one week before the surgery date, which was a couple weeks after the preop appointment. I was approved 2 days after submitting it to UHC. Some folks with my same surgeon had 2 weeks liquid diet, some had 1, not sure why. But, I got lucky and had only 1 and it went by fast, and I lost 12 pounds on it.
  21. wannaBthinsoon

    Confused

When was your surgery? Are you following the diet plan as your dietitian set for you? I am only 4 days post op for Gastric Sleeve, so I can't answer to gastric bypass questions, but I suppose it all depends on where you are in your recovery.

    My Surgery is on Thursday!

@@Joz31 I haven't heard from you...how you doing? I didn't see anyone in recovery. I had ladies on both sides of me writhing in pain, and I just wanted to wake up enough to move on over to my room, those ladies were making me so sad...like they were already regretting what they had done, and they hadn't even woke up yet. Holler!!

    My Surgery is on Thursday!

@@FlabbyNat I am so sorry you are not feeling great. I have been lucky I guess. No nausea, getting my fluids in fine. I have taken the liquid hydrocodone for pain, it helps me sleep (I am not a back sleeper...but I have to be for now). I haven't slimed or dry heaved, or anything. My tummy does talk to me all the time, though. That's something I have heard we will be dealing with forever. I hate it that we all can't come out of this and instantly feel great. But I feel pretty great. I do have to nap throughout the day. I have been doing 20 minutes on the treadmill, and that wears me out a little. Hang in there....it won't be long before you will be ready to get up and go.

    Time off work for recovery

@@Debbieduck4 yep, exactly why I will be taking off the full 4 weeks. I sit too, and rarely get a break or lunch (I'm a supervisor at a call center) Our call center is 100,000 sq ft, but we use instant messaging to be more "efficient". I worry about getting in my walks once I get back to work.
