serious surgery decisions to consider
wannaBthinsoon replied to jadama22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@jadama22 I don't blame you, I wouldn't either. If they can do it all at once, that would be awesome. I know I wouldn't want to have to go through one recovery just to have to go through another one right afterward. Surgeons are so skilled these days, I'm sure you will do great. -
My BMI was 42 when I began this journey, and the people I chatted with in the waiting room all thought I was post surgery, and told me I looked great! ha! When I told them I was pre-op, they'd all say....you don't need the surgery, you could do it with just diet and exercise. (really?!) I just smiled and said thank you, or you are so kind. etc.

Just recently quit smokung

I quit on 4-1-14 in preparation for this surgery. Best decision ever. My hubs quit with me. We both smoked 30+ years. -
serious surgery decisions to consider
wannaBthinsoon replied to jadama22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it were me, I would wait to do the gall bladder later. It is full of bile, and your new tummy could be compromised. But I am not a doctor. If it isn't safe to do it at the same time, he will likely not do it at the same time. At least ethically he shouldn't. (First do no harm) -
Did they really take half my tummy?

@ I wondered the same thing. I was also super hungry all the time. It all changes once you move to soft foods. You will TOTALLY feel the restriction then! -

@@FraggleRock Holy smokes! Your experience sounds pretty dreadful! I am so sorry you had to experience that! I am happy to see that horrible experience is behind you and you are doing well. Congrats on the pounds lost!! -
@@laguerr13 There are quite a few bariatric veterans on this site that helped me make my decision, and they give me some great advice when I'm in a panic over something dumb. I'm still learning what works and what doesn't. At first I was hungry all the time. No kidding. I thought maybe the doc took my stomach but left the grehlin hormone behind. lol But once I began soft foods, I filled up really quickly. I have to remind myself to chew the crap out of everything and take my time eating (or it feels stuck in my chest), and I have to remind myself to drink. Drinking seems to be harder for me when I'm at work, but I am going to figure that one out too. If you need anything, as far as advice we all will try to help you out. But I only know from my own experience, and everyone is different, and experiences things differently. So far I am psyched at how great I feel. So...cheers to you, friend!! You will do great!

Is eating 5 oz of canned chicken normal
wannaBthinsoon replied to knf7111's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW! that seems like a lot to me. I am 5 weeks out and I can only eat about a tablespoon of chicken. My surgery was 4/23. Chicken is so dense, I don't know how you ate that much. -
OMG week 2 and I am so hungry

@@craigcu You made me laugh out loud! I, too, am eating a spoonful of stuff. I understand!! -
Attitude is everything! We've touched on this before. I went into this knowing exactly what to expect and what I wanted, and I KNEW everything would work out, and it did! My husband was worried too. Until I was wheeled from recovery to my room and he saw that I survived the surgery and I was my same ornery self. You can't stop her from worrying, but it only lasts till you wake up on the "losers bench". Take care!

OMG week 2 and I am so hungry
wannaBthinsoon replied to Dream125's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Can you tolerate sugar free Jello? I practically lived on that for 2 weeks. Plus it helped with my nails and my hair! AND it filled me up a little better than just plain old liquids. -
OMG week 2 and I am so hungry
wannaBthinsoon replied to Dream125's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@Dream125 Here's a tip from someone who knows......don't rush into soft foods too quickly. I felt hungry too at first. Now that I am on soft foods I get full so quickly. I've told people that I don't know how I am still alive with as little as I eat. One tablespoon of pureed pork roast, and I am FULL to the gills. I can't imagine being able to eat more than what I eat now. I am afraid to. I'm sure I would toss my cookies! Best wishes to you. -
It's official- I can eat anything!
wannaBthinsoon replied to LSF's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It really amazes me how I can still be alive with the tiny bit of food I can eat. I am only 5 weeks out, but STILL!! I pureed some pork to have with a few green Beans. I (maybe) got in 1 tablespoon of the pork and 2 green beans. -

Food funeral...
wannaBthinsoon replied to maggie409's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was going to...that was my plan. But I had meetings all day, so no food funeral for me. -
I was told by my surgeon to wait 2 full months. I am 5 weeks. I tried a cup of decaf the other day...just a sip. I didn't care for the "coffee" taste. I think I am missing the heaps of sugar and calorie laden coffee creamer I used to use. Black coffee or black coffee with stevia just doesn't do it for me. Gonna try tea.

Did anyone loose weight on their pre-op diet
wannaBthinsoon replied to jabez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1 week of liquids only and I lost quite a bit. I think it was around 10 pounds in that one week. Doc was pleased! -
Oh...yeah the fat is kinda "out". Not a good idea. I googled the Keto diet, and while you will go through ketosis (drink lots of Water to help your liver!!) you don't eat the fat. Once you are out a ways, you can add some fat to your diet though. I will use a little real butter, or I use real mayo in my chicken salad. Stuff like that. I don't do fat free anymore.

That's just strictly Protein, right? That sounds like how we eat with the sleeve.

New to group. Sleeved 5/18/15
wannaBthinsoon replied to GSDMom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You need your protein @@GSDMom Look for Isopure at GNC or other liquid Proteins. I understand that some of the shakes are a little thick this soon to your surgery, but you do have other options. Unflavored in crystal light is what I used. And as far as it feeling like it's getting stuck, it may be that your sips are a little bigger than you realize, or you are sipping and then sipping again too soon. Slow down and sip ALL THE TIME to get your fluids in. That is crucial so you don't become dehydrated. Take care!
