Time for an update sorry I have been MIA for so long. Life has been moving at light speed. The weight loss is going well, I am down about 96lbs, but not with out complications. Memorial Day weekend my son and I were riding and long story short, his rear wheel rubbed my front wheel and down I went. One shattered right elbow, a surgery to install two pins and a number of physical therapy sessions later. I am ready for the bike again. If that was not enough I started having stomach pains during all of that, Dr ordered an ultrasound and turns out I had gallstones. So two weeks ago I went in to have the gallbladder taken out. Dr. (same on that banded me) decides to he also wants to scope my stomach and check on the band while I’m under. Good thing he did as my band had started to slip, he re-positioned the band and I am basically starting over on the fills. Now I can eat just about anything and have no restriction. If there is an upside to what we thought were gallbladder problems. It is I was not able to eat much other than smoothies. During the months of inactivity I continued to loose weight. Had I been on my regular diet I most certainly would have packed on additional weight. Pre bike wreck I was riding 50+ miles a week, swimming 1.5 miles 6 days a week and running 9 miles a week. Now I am starting from a 0 base, but glad to be able to be active again. Also found a great website for food tracking. MyPlate - Food Diary & Food Calorie Counter | LIVESTRONG.COM Well that is about it, hope every one is doing well.

Sorry have not been on the site in some time. I have been doing really well down almost 100lbs, small set back in the last few months thought. Started with bad reflux thought I was too tight, got small unfill and it got better. I wrecked my bicycle and shattered my elbow, this lead to no exercise at all as I had pins put in. So went back in for a bit of a fill. Short time later reflux back, and gallbladder attacks every other day. Yesterday I went in and had my gallbladder out and had an EGD done, well the band had started to slip. Dr. unfilled me a good bit fixed the band with new stitches and I am back on track. Go back on Aug 10th for a refill and hope to resume the working out and all that stuff.
Are you doing better?

Exercise frequency
BuffettPhan replied to susannah's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have gone from one extreme to the other and back. As soon as I was able after banding, I was in the pool every night. The weight was falling off. I slacked and the weight loss slowed almost to the point of gaining. I have however found exercise again, and swim at least 4 times a week and try to get a min of 2500 yards. I also ride a bike and now that the weather is getting warm I will be back on the bike. Last year I logged 1550 miles. My goal this year is 3500. I have been walking and am starting to increase the pace to a moderate jog. Bottom line is to loose the weight EVEN with the BAND you must exercise. -
Congrats on getting insurance to cover the surgery. Now for the all important question how did you swing that?

I am very active ride my bike 65-70 miles a week but have just gotten into some old eating styles I eat way more than a cup at a sitting. I am going to make an appointment for a fill and try to drop 10 by x-mas. -
Just wanted to check in and see how ya'll were making out. Yesterday Oct 4 was my 1 year mark down 70lbs, not were I wanted to be but beats the yell out out of the 300lbs I was pushing before the band. Summer has been great lots of riding, about 70-75 miles a week. Hope all is well.

How far out are you from banding? For me the process was a snap, and the band has given me a new lease on life. Down about 60-65 lbs, and doing all kinds of stuff I havent done in years. Good luck, and if you have any questions just let me know. -
can't belive it has been more than 30 days since my last post. Man time files. Started a new job and have been going 100 mph non stop. Things should calm down until the next election cycle. Opening a new office about 5 miles from my house so think I am going to try the comute by bike thing. Just need to see how hot and sweaty I get. The suit and tie thing does not lend itself to the comute by bike thing. But I will just see how it goes. How is everyones summer riding going? I have been getting in about 50 miles a week, sacking i know. There are a few big tours coming up later in the year so I am going to shoot for those.

So I should know in a few days if I have landed a new job closer to home. Currently I commute 122 miles round trip. Needless to say my gas bill is crazy. If I do get this closer to home job I should be able to commute by bike at least half of the week, 12 miles round trip max. And then I saw this on one of the blogs I read, $4 gas kick bike sales into high gear http://www.startribune.com/business/18843414.html Looks like I am not the only person getting his a$$ kicked by Exxon. I have included the link to my friend Tim’s blog http://masiguy.blogspot.com , check out Tim’s blog has lots of great links to other bike and racing sites.

So I want to share my latest stuck story. Yesterday I went in and had a small fill, and was on liquid yesterday and mush today. Work took me to a fundraiser today and President. Bush was the main guest. Before the President came into the room to give his speech there were light finger-food and some different fruit stuff. Well I had not eaten all day and was starved and went out on a limb. Man was that a huge mistake. A had two bites of crab cake and chewed and chewed until the bites were liquid and one sip of water. I didn’t take another bite, because I could feel I was stuck. Well sometimes it passes and other times (not often) it turns into a PB. Well with all theses people around and secret service looking for people acting strange I had a PB. I was able to excuse myself from the main room and thankfully it was early and not too many people had made it in. After about three minutes of steady gagging I was no longer stuck. Tons of very strange looks and a few secret service taking into there coat sleeves but I was not taken into custody. My lesson for today; chew, chew, and chew some more and when you think you have chewed enough chew a few more times.

BG this came to mind when I read about your windfall... A little spending money. Money to burn. Money that you did not necessarily earn. Rainy days seem to wind up sunny, Long as you got a little spending money. -Jimmy Buffett Great recap of one riders Houston MS150 Masiguy My home town of Hammond will be hosting a MS150 in October. I plan on making the ride. Stef how was your ride? Are you ready to do it again?

I have also thought about ordering off of the appetizer menu, but I went with a full meal and was able to eat 2 dinners and 2 lunches from it. Awesome! I would consider myself a foodie, love food the network. As far as ordering food while I am out. I still order off the main menu. I can’t get past the thought of not having enough and an appetizer would leave me hungry. I know this is not the case but that is what is stuck in my head. How do you have a portion last for so long? Two dinners two lunches if I am lucky I could get one other meal out of it.

Steph you look great. Hot bike too.

So I got about 6 miles in today rode home got my youngest and we were off for a 3k fun run. Running is still not fun for me but that’s what they called it. The town I live in is hosting the 5th annual Blues and Bar-B-Que. Basically a few hundred people smoking all kinds of food. I slipped back into my pre-band eating habits of inhaling and got stuck, thought I was going to die. Any way the weather held for most of the morning. It rained a bit but at least it is warm. Shorts t-shirt and flip-flops, man you got love South Louisiana. Going to try and get a longer ride in tomorrow.

Well the weather is great in Louisiana. We were in the mid 70’s today and it was fantastic. Got the grass cut and started pulling some weeds in the flowerbeds. Ran errands with the wife and just couldn’t stand it any more had to go for a ride. I have been putting off any serious solo rides didn’t have a way to fix a flat. Well I got my seat bag and inflator and patch kit today, so I was off for a ride. Good thing I had the kit. I was heading home (trying to beat sunset) and the rear tire went flat. Only took about 10 minutes to fix, but long enough that the last 7 miles were in the dusk/dark. Just glad I had the kit. Lesson to pass on, get a flat kit and don’t leave home without it. Aside from all that it was a good ride. I got 15.5 miles in. JC - Nike makes some great shoes that will work with those pedals. Started get some put had an easier time clipping in and out of the look

I live near a university and have taken up swimming again. I swam competitively in high school and have really enjoyed getting back in the water. As an added bonus, I don’t notice the sweat and it is not as hard on my knees. I served a few years in the Marine Corps, and all the road marches played hell on my knees.
