It was pretty much pre-approved, as long as I lost 15 pounds. I started this process at the end of March through Kaiser Permanente. To get in the program you need to take the info class and have your PCP refer you. Once you're "in" the program, you have orientation, then meet your surgeon and get your pre-op goal. After that it's a nutrition class and support groups. When you're within 5 pounds of your goal, you get your psych eval and start doing all your labs. At goal weight you get your surgery date and your pre and post op appointments made for the rest of the year. It's nice because you can do it at your own pace. It could be as quick or as slow as you need.

Make that triplets! My cousin Mexicangirl is also June 16th in the same hospital as me. It's been such a blessing to go through this with her!

The way I see it, I'm having a life saving surgery and the liquid diet will make it safer for me and give me my best chance. Based on that perspective, I'm looking forward to it, as it will mean I'm just one step closer. Good luck! We are rooting for you!

Yay! It's coming fast!

Yes, they do ultra sounds on us, and upper endoscopies after if needed.

That's awesome! I'm stoked for you. We are going to get healthy AND be gallstone free!

Yeah, I have already had problems with gall bladder attacks, to the point that I had a consultation with a surgeon, but it was so close to my bypass date, I asked my bariatric surgeon if he could do it at the same time and he said yes. He said it will make my surgery a little longer and more complicated and my recovery time a little longer, but nothing to be concerned about and he does it all the time. If you have problems with it already, I would bring it up with your surgeon. I don't want to have to recover from abdominal surgery twice....especially if it's in the exact same spot.

Oh so close! I'm excited for you! Thanks, in checking it out now

I have my surgery date scheduled for June 16th! I'm in the kaiser Sacramento bariatric surgery program with Dr. Grinberg. My highest weight was 287, my "starting" weight at kaiser was 283 with a -15 pound pre-op goal weight of 268. I am now 262. All my lab work is done, my psych eval is done. I just have a few pre-op appointments to go. My clothes are falling off of me, but I refuse to buy clothes. I'm so excited for this new change. I'm also having my gallbladder removed at the same time. Is anyone else having that done too?

Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum. I in the process of qualifying for gastric bypass through Kaiser Northern California in Sacramento. I already met my surgeon and went through orientation, nutrition class, and support group. I was given a goal to lose 15 pounds. I started at 283 and I need to get two 268. When I am within 5 pounds of my goal, I can schedule my psychiatric evaluation and then I can schedule my surgery date. I'm super frustrated, because I'm retaining water weight like crazy. I've cut Cut out sodium almost completely out of my diet, and yet I still fluctuate 5 to 6 pounds in one day! I took my scale into the doctors office with me to compare the difference between the doctor scale and mine. There is no difference. The other day when I weighed myself in the morning I was 272, and I was ecstatic! But afternoon, I went to my support group and waiting at the doctors office. The scale reported 277, giving me a 5 pound gain in just six hours. It set me back, because I was planning on making my appointment for my psychiatric evaluation that day. I have been sticking to my 1200 cal food plan religiously. I have been walking every day. I just don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

I understand that not all calories are created equal. The food plan I am on is pretty strict. I was provided a binder with a list of foods that I can choose from. Lean proteins, non starchy veggies, fresh fruit, very little fat, nothing processed and no sugar. I get in between 70-80 grams of protein a day, which comes from food, not supplements. I keep a food journal and I'm not hungry in between meals, and I'm not snacking. I know the crazy fluctuation has to be water weight, I just don't know why I'm retaining so much water. I would have to consume an extra 3500 calories to gain one pound of fat. A typical breakfast for me is egg whites, spinach and mushrooms, a slice of 40 calorie bread with a fat free butter and a small banana. Lunch is usually 3 oz of boneless, skinless chicken breast, mixed non starchy veggies sautéed in Pam, 3/4 oz of triscuit crackers and a small apple. Dinner is similar to lunch. I take my vitamins in the morning with 8 oz of skim milk. Am I overthinking it? Am I just obsessing/stressing myself out? I'm drinking myself nuts. Lol
