October 2014 sleevers check in please!
SimplySue replied to Jen - a work in progress's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I also was told no NSAIDS except baby aspirin if absolutely needed & MAYBE down the road, Celebrex or Meloxicam, if absolutely needed. Funny how the different surgeons vary so much with this, with diets,,, @@Kathy812 sugar free Torani syrup? Maybe sprinkle a little crystal light? -

@slareau- I like the Trutein lemon meringue pie & the chocolate magic puddińg- you can order samples to try from their web site, also I went to Bariatric pantry & Nashua Nutrition & was able to try different samples- so far other than the above, I like the Syntrax nectar Double Stuffed Cookie with unsweetened vanilla almond milk & the chocolate & chicken flavored unjury. I also use the Trutein Cinnabon in my oatmeal & cream of wheat to increase Protein. & also the Syntrax Nectar unflavored to other things. But the brownie flavor from Vitamin world sounds yummy. &@@D.Lo -glad you're going to see a counsellor. I agree with whoever said it above-its a new start. I was nervous, but I had lunch with a friend yesterday & it was ok- got Soup & 1/2 sandwich, no bread, since the soup was yucky(my tastebuds are pickier now), I ate ~1/2 tuna salad & had the rest for lunch today, was sleeved 10/9/14. -
FYI- if interested, there is a new thread for all of us post op October sleevers. I posted the link below so hopefully it will work. Feel free to join us over there! [url=http://BariatricPal....heck-in-please!

@@Elaine Sunday - there's a ton of cookbooks out there & the "eggface" blog mentioned earlier in this thread is a great resource for recipes. I too was sleeved on the 9th of October & even though I don't cook as much as I used to, I am excited about trying some of the recipes. I think instead of "never", I am going to try to use "new & improved" because that's what we did this for. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/?m=1 -

@@peekaboo -I think it was because our 6-1/2 month old puppy decided to jump up, placing one of his paws on my belly button incision- it opened a tiny bit (this was just after staples removed) & even though I tried to keep it clean, it got infected- started itching bad & then yuck! -

How great to find support where you didn't expect it- a definite good sign. I was so nervous as this was the 1st surgery I'd ever had! But we have all come out on the other side & this is what they do- they do anesthesia & surgery on obese people all the time , will be sending you good thoughts. & for the joke... Knock, knock, who's there? ???? Knock, knock, who's there? ???? Knock, knock, who's there? ???? u glad I didn't say ????? & Lovely, glad you're feeling better. -

@@Rogofulm - thank you, I had not seen that & appreciate it-I am not quite 2 weeks out & have lost 15 lbs so far, it's good to be prepared. -
I choose the sleeve because I was worried about the malabsorption of nutrients & the idea of "dumping" were not attractive. Also just before my decision, 2 people I knew had problems with their surgeries-1 with sleeve, 1 with bypass. My surgeon told be that the effect on diabetes with the sleeve is similar to the bypass, but they can't explain it ( with the bypass, there are known reasons it helps). My dilemma was that the sleeve is relatively new & not as well studied in the long term, plus once that part of your stomach is gone- it's gone forever. They do say that the bypass is more effective than the sleeve & you should loose more. What is your "gut" ???? telling you? With Sleeve I don't like the fact that it can make GERD worse .Some say it doesn't work as great as gastric bypass. I am not sure about that.. Not enough research done on my part to analyze that topic.

What a wonderful discussion to follow!???? By nature, I am a private person. That being said, I work in the health care field & it is not something that I want everyone to be aware of, but at the same time being in a small community, I expect word to get around. I am just under 2 weeks out from surgery & most of my coworkers & boss are aware. As far as the patients go, I'm not sure- they're there for us to take care of them, but I've known some for>20 years. I lost a large amount of weight ~10 years ago & thought the more vocal I was, the less I likely I would be to gain it back....WRONG! So, I certainly don't have that mind set any longer- if anything I am humbled by the possibility of failure, but determined to be successful. Also, a colleague of mine had WLS & did end up gaining his weight back. Yet a friend of mine also had WLS & is on Facebook actively posting about this. So this is an issue that I struggle with- likely I will try to use me as an example to this who are ready, but time will tell. Thankfully those who know have been supportive & some are watching me to determine their choice. It will be an interesting time????

@Kathy812- I didn't think I'd need the pain meds much, but boy was I wrong! I was on IV pain meds for 1st full day after, then switched to oral after dye test was okd & I even con't them at home for 1st few days, esp if I overdid & got too sore. I decided it was ok to use them- they were ordered for a reason. If you have pain- you're better off to treat it & keep moving than have it get so bad that you don't move & end up taking even more pain meds or getting complications. I also had my gallbladder remover which meant 2 more incisions- not sure if that made pain worse. But we all experience pain differently. -
