October 2014 sleevers check in please!
SimplySue replied to Jen - a work in progress's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@WL WARRIOR - I can't imagine sustaining such a small # of calories for so long- you have some amazing will power! I average 800-1000 calories nearing 6 months out & like many, have noted increased hunger, increased capacity, but trying to follow the rules. Loosing is slower, but still happening. @@AgentShepard - wow for you- amazing progress also!! -

Starting out at age 45? How common?
SimplySue replied to KS123's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Had the sleeve at 51 ( mentally not that old, but was physically getting older quicker), turned 52, 2 months later & moving so much easier, feeling younger???? if you are ready to commit to the changes, then it's the right time, JUST DO IT! There's actually a thread on here that you are too young for!! http://track.bariatricpal.com/track/click/14368495/www.bariatricpal.com?p=eyJzIjoiME95a1FjLW1wQ0RmUWV4UUJTS2xUeG9IendJIiwidiI6MSwicCI6IntcInVcIjoxNDM2ODQ5NSxcInZcIjoxLFwidXJsXCI6XCJodHRwOlxcXC9cXFwvd3d3LmJhcmlhdHJpY3BhbC5jb21cXFwvdG9waWNcXFwvMzE4MjYwLW5ldy10by1maWZ0aWVzLWdyb3VwXFxcL1wiLFwiaWRcIjpcIjQ2MWFmYzg0OWE1MDRmYWZhNDczNWUyZDAyZDU5N2IzXCIsXCJ1cmxfaWRzXCI6W1wiYWIzOTVhZDI2N2FlNTViN2ExOTEzMTNiZjY2ZWQ1ODBlOGU3YWFhMlwiXX0ifQ -
Can I use a post op diet to use weight without surgery
SimplySue replied to brian45502's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think it is doable, but there are so many other changes that the surgery does & science is still trying to figure it all out- the surgery is more that just restriction- there are hormone changes, changes in your gut bacteria (yes skinny people have different intestinal bacteria!), it gives you a "reset" & you don't go into "starvation mode" with metabolism shutting down like regular dieting can do. Diet wise, do something you can stick to for the long haul (moderation), get rid of as much processed foods as you can & of course move/exercise more & good luck! -
Depression after the Gastric Sleeve
SimplySue replied to BigTink2LilTink's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I found that Kozy shack rice pudding- sugar free was so helpful to calm my "off kilter" tummy I had each am in the beginning & can add a few carbs. Not great on the protein (only 4 gms), but I could eat better with a calmer tummy the rest of the day. -
@@Kindle , thank you for the chuckles????. I'm not sure I'll ever have that problem-went from a 46DD to a 38 or 40DD with 80lbs down- mine just deflated???? It is difficult to find a bra to hold everything up & in these days & the straps don't want to stay up- I think they are working too hard!

Also, I found a nice pair of swim bottoms on Amazon- bike short length- goes to mid thigh, used them snorkeling last week & they were great- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KCXGK5E?ie=UTF8&at=&force-full-site=1&ref_=aw_bottom_links @@JamieLogical , sorry to hear about the illness, better luck in 4 weeks.

Lands End goes down to a 2, LL Bean goes down to a 4. They have some nice suits.

Overall everyone seems to be doing well, although more challenges now that our sleeve is more tolerant. Frustrated myself that I wanted to be at Onederland by the end of the month, but only down 3.6#s this month & still 2lbs away ????- although there is 1 week left, but have been taking notes & trying to do better this past week, so maybe next week? My clothing sizes changed quick at 1st- started at a 26, but have been in an 18 for a bit, but more people are commenting?? I should also measure again. -
Gravity is not our friend!????

Got told by a coworker today that I'm taking the "easy way"
SimplySue replied to Jerr_Bear's topic in Rants & Raves
@@Jerr_Bear - what a great thread you started! Someone told me that having the surgery is a tool (that person who told you it was easy is a tool as well!), Like the bumper guards in bowling- they help you get the ball down the alley, but don't guarantee you a strike. I didn't tell many initially, but 5 months after my sleeve & 76 lbs less, people have noticed. I am much more open now & if they don't agree, who cares? No other way could I have lost this much this fast & feeling so much better. Obesity is complicated- so many factors get us to this point & medical science is still learning about all that contributes to this & how to treat it. This was my time to take care of me! -
I can sympathize- we're also going on vacation soon & same dilemma. Found a great tankini top @ Lands end with lifting underwire & a 1 piece also (so happy to have a Lands End Inlet nearby). The bottoms are tough, hoping to get swim shorts & boy shorts from Switsuitsforall on line & will see- I still have a larger waist proportionally, but saggy & deflated in the butt, thighs & chest! Plus swimsuits seem to be sized smaller. @@JamieLogical -What about a high waisted bikini?

@@boosh10 , I'm 5 months out yesterday & although I used to start my am with hot coffee-2 cups at least (x 25 years), I still have no taste for it- @ALL! Weird. I have a cup of hot decaf tea with milk(live in the northeast) to start & my am shake with trader Joes coffee concentrate- 3oz with protein powder, fruit ( us banana or frozen berries), 6 oz unsweetened vanilla almond milk & sugar free torani syrup. I wonder if that will change after next month?

@@traveler60 , a size 8!!!!! Fabulous???? @@pansy63 , sounds like you got a lot accomplished????
-
@@pansy63 I took off just under 3 weeks, my job isn't very physical, but can be very stressful. That was a good amount to get used to the different eating & to be prepared. I also went back to work mid week, so I only had 2 full days to get through.
-
@@traveler60 my perceptions are warped both ways! I never felt that I was as big as I was unless I looked really closely (which I avoided) or in photos (avoided them too). But now that I've lost 75lbs, I can't see that either. I still pick out larger clothes- be it pants, tops & bras. Then I look at a size 18 or 16 & I think that's way too small!!! But the reality is the 16s pull up all the way & even zip, but not button (my waist is the last to loose) & the 18s are getting big

Good to hear all the updates. I was sleeved 10/9/14 & am down 75lbs. I'm at 203.6 & so want to get to onderland- so close. Sounds as if everyone is doing well-even @@Kathy812 . @@LainieG so sorry to hear about the loss of your brother & the difficult time it was. I have very little close family still around- both parents gone, my sister who is 10 years older lives across the country x 45 years & lives a different lifestyle. Looking to your future is a good place to focus & belated congratulations on your approval. & yes, it's probably easier to live alone as far as the food goes- I was 2 months post op when my teenage daughter came home with fresh doughnuts!!(I loved doughnuts), made me want to cry, but then my older daughter made the protein doughnuts for me from Eggface. But I hope you'll have someone checking on you initially post op. As far as preop diet, we had none except clear liquids the day ahead, I did loose 10 lbs in the 6 months before surgery & kept it off though.

.Congratulations on your date & not too far away!!
