Confirmed Once Again: Roux-En-Y Helps Resolve Diabetes
erica1969 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Incomsulting with the American Diabetes Assoc., they indicated that this "new" finding of more and more gastric patients developing hypoglycemia usually gets worse ad the passes. Not good new, I know....but a kind word of warning...please....keep an eye on your sugar levels....Symptoms become less obvious... This has cost my career, along with Dr o much more....be as educated as possible...best of luck to u all;) -
Confirmed Once Again: Roux-En-Y Helps Resolve Diabetes

To jeanaloveskisses: As I read your post it was as if I had written it myself....Pre surgery I was diabetic. Now, I am hypoglocemic. Some can control this with diet. After consulting my doc it appears there is a small (but growing) percentage of patients where diet doesn't correct the issue. (me being one of those). After much research (googling hypoglocemic after gastric surgery) there is a really long name for what we have and it will explain all the details... In my particular situation, I can live with it or have my pancreas removed!!! And, the diabetes could return afterwards so I am not ready to take that leap;)I did find it interesting that over time this condition gets worse. It has affected my life dramatically as the symptoms are less noticeable over time which is scary! Anyway...research, research, research, and get your A1C checked quarterly....There are solutions and I don't mean to scare you; as each individual is different, but pls. don't take it lightly...Best of luck and praying diet alone will rectify your situation:) -
Help! Ibuprofen after surgery?
erica1969 replied to CoreyCan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are right and I apologize for the oversight in my initial reading of your post. Due to the fact we had different bariatric procedures, I am more limited in my OTC in take;) -
My 4 year anniversary for my surgery will be next week! I did have massive complications but that put aside I take in probably between seven and nine hundred calories a day which is way below what they would like. I just make sure that the choices I make are very high protein....and it did get rid of my diabetes but it caused me to be hypoglycemic so I always eat a small amt. carbs with my protein (carbs =energy) and as far as the sluggishness... massive amounts of b12....you don't always realize it's working when you're taking it but when you stop taking it you can definitely tell a difference. I opted for the tablets instead of the shots because you can get more of it in your system that way; so maybe try to b12? And of course make sure you take your iron supplements multi vitamins and calcium.... to me it seems like if I did not take those things (along with the low amount of calories I take in) I would not be able to function ....so my vitamins really seem to get me through:) good luck!!
