    African American Sleevers

Perhaps it's acid. I thought I was starving tonight, only to realize I had not taken my Prevacid. Now I feel satiated. Are you on a med for acid reflux?

    African American Sleevers

Perhaps you have acid. I felt that way early on and realized it was acid. Just tonight I was having my snack. I thought I was so hungry, then I realized that I had not taken my Prevacid. Now I feel the restriction and have no hunger. Now that the pill is working i feel satiated. Hugs- hang in there. Let us know how things are going.

    April 30th!

Hello April 30th and all sleevers! Kaypay10, you have done great at 60 lbs since your start! I did not lose very much pre op. At 2 wks pre op I called and my program group told me to just eat very low fat and low carbs. That was nice that I did not have to stress over a full liq diet. Thus far I have lost 50 lbs. starting wt was 358. I have not been able to exercise very much because 2 wks before my sleeve the ortho told me that I need a total knee replacement. How sad I was and still am. I was at a convention last wk that required a lot of walking. I thought this would be great. I was very careful as I didn't want to fall the way I did ( with the pop, crack then fall ) when I first noticed a problem. Although I have lost 58 lbs since then, I have found that my knee is still giving me problems. After the convention when I do normal routines my knee gives me sharp stabbing pains that bring me to a dead stop. I had hoped that wt loss would buy me some time. I now wear a knee brace which lets me at least walk short distances without screaming from the awful knee pain. Wish me well. :-(

    HOUSTON Sleevers?

I was sleeved April 30,2014 in the Woodlands. I am down 50 lbs total. I remember being less than a wk out and was concerned about hunger. Looking back I believe it was more acid than actual hunger. I am on Prevacid and will continue on it for at least 6 months; as I had Hietal Hernia repair with surgery and acid reflux for years pre surgery. I have very little hunger now. By the time I get my tiny meals, protein and water in, I'm relieved to stop eating and drinking at the day's end.

Only 25 lbs lost in 6 weeks

Your wt loss of 25 lbs in 6 wks is great! Don't be discouraged, this is something to be excited about! I have read that wt loss is never as rapid as it is with the first gastric surgery. So this may be what you are experiencing. Talk with your program and get their take on this. Continue to watch your diet, exercise, and drink your water. Discuss this with your nutritionist who can guide you through this transition; and you will be fine. Yes, this does work :-) . Best wishes on your journey.

    Labs 3 years out

Yes, Mrsmiller#4, do call your program. They need to know about your condition. Without any significant intake, you are at risk for being dehydrated as well. I hope you feel better soon. Let us know how you progress.

    Weight Loss Time

Only 50 more lbs to lose? Hold tight and hang on. Change up your exercise routine, do something different that your body is not used to. Are you eating too few calories? Is your body in starvation mode? Talk with your nutritionist. It seems a shame to have to have surgery for the last 50 lbs. We all lose at different rates. Some people lose wt faster than others. I'm sure that whatever you chose you will be successful because look how far you are from the start line.

    Depression

I too have had depression. It was definitely partly due to my inability to permanently keep the excess wt off. Now I awake and no longer think that "I'm overweight and need to lose wt." I am only almost 8 wks out, but my days don't start out that way, with bad thoughts. I now have thoughts that I must get all protein and water in instead of the self defeating ones. I was never excited about surgery because I have lost 50, 80 lbs with variations in between time and time again but never have I been able to keep it off. I have been morbidly obese since 3rd grade. At least that's the first wt I remember : 136 lbs. So I haven't gotten excited about wt loss yet. Highest wt was 358, now 313, surgery was April 30th 2014. But the good thing is that I no longer am depressed. Post surgery I had about 3 or 4 sad days, but now they are gone. Look at it this way: we had enough depression before surgery; now we can look forward to the brighter days ahead- knowing that we are doing a great thing for our health mentally as well as physically.
  9. I have the Ninja Mega Kitchen System and love it. I must admit that using it to make icy drinks really help to cool me down from hot flashes. It "turns them off" after only a few sips. I look forward to the day when the protein shakes are behind me, but will still use it in cooking for large groups like family holidays and feeding the multitudes at church. Par1959, please share with us how you get all 80 gms of protein in without the shakes. We travel frequently, I keep the shakes handy, but I am only 7 wks, 6 days out. Had my first experience trying food at a convention as instructed by my Dr.; but felt so guilty eating "normal " food with no stats to record by actually measuring them myself. Almost panicky. Can't eat at home always; must learn how to chose; and I think I did well, but it's out of my comfort zone. Need to be successful so badly.

    Labs 3 years out

Yes, PPIs do keep the body from absorbing iron. Years before my sleeve ( I'm almost 7 wks out) I had to have an iron infusion at the oncology clinic. At the time I was on Nexium. I asked my Surgeon's office about this last wk. she said it was my decision wheather to take the bariatric iron or not.

    Help please

Heating pad and walking helped. I had it at 3 wks post surgery. The pain was so bad I could barely walk or take a deep breath. I applied heat for 15 min then alternated it with walking. It started on Sunday, it finally totally left on Tuesday after my Dr's office told me to use heat walk and take a laxative. I hope you get better soon.

Why am i feeling this way

Laurie, I too am 5 wks 2 days. I was just queasy with my choc protein shake about 15 min ago. Fortunately, mine doesn't stay all the time. I had to stop my shake which will be continued later. Funny how surreal surgery was. There was some discomfort but had none of the extreme nausea and discomfort experienced by some. Then 3 wks out I got gas so bad I could hardly move or breathe. It lasted about 4 days and I was so sore. Now I am starting to have nausea as of yesterday. When I lie down at night the hormones get started and I have flashes all night with the perspiration all over. I am sorry that you are having such problems. I hope it gets better soon. If you have nausea Meds from your surgeon, dont hesitate to take it; if not call the Surgeon's office and tell them your problem. They can help you while you get over this hurdle. I'm sure that when we reach goal it will all be worth it. Hold on, better days are coming.

    Trapped Air....

I know the painful gas trapped air feeling. I had my sleeve April 30, 2014 with Paraesophageal repair. Pre Sw 358, Sw 342 Present wt 320, down 38 lbs. today is 4 wks for me. Sunday at church, the ceiling fans were on and it was very cold in the sanctuary. Past mid service I started to feel a little gas pain in my neck and shoulder. It spread to my left abdomen making it difficult to take a deep breath. I came home and took Gas Ex. Then applied heating pad. After 5 min. I could feel gas dissipating. It got better. (I had started assessing for Pulmonary Embolism.) Monday I had a very sore spot in the canter of my back by my vertebra. Well, last night and this morning, my left rib area and left back are so very sore. I guess I swallowed air singing and talking to so many people. I did not have a lot of gas early on, and had very little nausea. I suppose it's not too late. Deep breaths hurt, not to mention lying on that side. I slept very little last night. From the words of the veterans "this too shall pass." And I will be so glad!" Hang in there and hold on tight! :-)
  19. Kpay10, We are the April 30th people. I am having the exact same problem as you are. I am failing miserably for the last few days when our protein requirement went up. Yesterday I had 65 gms which was an improvement. Today I am struggling again. I just can't hold much. My Dr had stated 3 meals, no snacks. But I see the sample diet in my PKT that has snacks for the puréed stage. I guess I will start snacks where I will work on getting in the extra protein. I am down 34 lbs since pre surgery .

    Smoking

Coach Josh, Please re-think your desire to start smoking. You have done something wonderful for yourself and have gotten healthier as well; please don't take away from this good thing by smoking. Remember all the health risks that smoking causes. It's just not worth it. Sometimes we do things that are not good for us and think that it wont hurt. But if we continue and those times will eventually add up. Just like our weight problem. Now you have gotten a handle on the weight. You will only trade that problem for another if you chose to start another habit that is detrimental to your health. I wish you well in your journey.

1-week Surgiversary plus a little rant

Happy one week Surgiversary and also Congratulations on your decision. I'm happy for you that you are feeling the difference in your body although you don't yet see it. And about the God topic; I don't ask you to believe in God, the decision is yours. But I do challenge you to tell Him that if He is real, to make Himself known to you. So that you can see for yourself what all of this talk about Him is about. Then make your decision and go from there. People speak without really thinking how cruel it will sound or how it will make you feel. You made a choice to have better health. I will almost guarantee that if that person had an attack of appendicitis they would beg to get it removed in order to live and not suffer and die needlessly early. You have been in your body long enough to know what will happen and what sufferings are down the road; and you addressed it before those things got a stronghold. What is the difference? I am proud of you for taking that courageous step to live a better life; just as one who needed surgery to have "whatever" removed that caused them health problems. You addressed yours too. Don't let the naysayers bother you. Hold your head up and be proud of what you have done for yourself because it is not an easy route, but rather a necessary one.

85% convinced. How do I get to 100%?

Tootles1975 I am glad you decided to do this for yourself. If not you would continue to think about it and be uncomfortable about not having it done. Pray God's guidance, be lead, and don't look back.

    weight gain

Hopeful to be slim, You are gaining muscle. Muscle weighs heavier than fat. You need to do some of this because muscle burns fat. So don't be surprised after you have done strength training that the numbers are higher. It will come right off later as your exercise ended and your body continue to burn calories. It's a good thing. Good for you!

11 days post op. Help me!

Mistymae, are you getting enough Protein? Because protein is what makes you feel full. It also provides the building blocks needed for every cell in your body. When you have your protein, wait 30 min before you drink, so that you will feel full. You can do it; one hour, meal, day at a time.
