    VSG in the AM

Good luck to you!!!! Keep photos as you go through this process. I noticed someone mentioned the flipagram app. You can compile all your photos as you lose weight. It puts it in video type format and you can add music! It becomes a great testimonial as you go through this journey. It is a great motivator as well. I start my journey on June 17th. As you did I will take a pic on my surgery day. It will be my first of many photos as I begin to shrink. :-)

JUNE 2014 POST OP SUPPORT GROUP!

I never thought I would get here. My date is June 17 for Sleeve surgery. I read the May thread faithfully and was sooooo jealous! Now it is our turn to take this awesome step into a new chapter of our lives. So helpful to know there are others out there to discuss our feelings as we go through the recovery steps, including sharing our successes and insecurities along the way. I will be here reading this thread when it changes to June, 2015!!!!! I hope all those scheduled for June surgeries stay with me!
  3. We all have family and friends that support us... And unfortunately we all have family and friends that are 'toxic." No one needs to assure you which category this friend is in. I learned a long time ago that keeping toxic people in my life is certain to cause me pain. Soooooo, since I am captain of my big girl pants ( as your friend so eloquently describes it) I cut the toxic people out of my life. I have enough stress in my life just from the trials and tribulations of normal everyday activities. Why would I voluntarily decide to add to that stress? Basically, deep down this friend is jealous and not at all concerned about you and your health and well being. Yup, sounds toxic to me. Seek those around you that support you and leave the others behind in the dust, and never look back. Look forward to your new healthy life!
  4. Lylabelle... I am so impressed with your courage to do this on your own. You are right, you need to do this for you and no one else should come between you and your health. Who is your dr and how did you research and find him. I am also impressed with him. Sounds like a first rate program that you are going through... Mexico or not. 1 hr with a patient is unheard of here in the US. I saw my dr in December for my initial consultation (15 minutes). I have went through the ins requirements ( 4 -5 months of jumping hoops) and am now scheduled for surgery on the 17th of June and I have final appt with surgeon on the 4th. Yup, that means I will have only seen him twice before I have the surgery. Again, Mexico or not, sounds like you are In good hands, literally. I wish you the best in your surgery and speedy recovery!
  5. I suppose when I look back on this process it will seem like it went fast but right now, waiting for my surgery on June 17th has been painfully slow. I was approved some time ago but my surgery date was set out 6 weeks from then. Reason being the doctor was going on vacation... The nerve of him to have a life outside of surgery! :-)
  6. I will post when we have the news. Just praying it will be approved!!!
  7. Thanks for sharing the financial info on the Mexico doctors. We finally completed all the 'hoop jumping" and submitted her paperwork to Aetna today. Wonderful if they approve and she can do the surgery in her home town. But if denied, I will support her and go to Mexico with her and be with her when she has her surgery there.
  8. Is there a dollar range for the sleeve surgery in Mexico that anyone could share with me here on this site? Just wondering overall costs and down payment required, etc .
  9. I am sometimes amazed at people and how they need to share their "knowledge" with you rather then just support your decision. I have not told anyone other then my immediate family, just for that reason. People can be so condescending and even rude. My husband told the neighbor that we needed to get the yard done before I go in for surgery. The neighbor actually asked me what I was having surgery for! WOW! Kind of a personal question. I could have killed my husband for even mentioning the surgery at all. I just told the neighbor I was having gall bladder surgery. That is what I will tell anyone that asks when they wonder where I have been or why I am eating differently right after surgery, etc. I am just not comfortable telling anyone, much less everyone about the choice I have made for WLS. I need to focus on me and leave the naysayers out of this formula!
  10. Anyone have Aetna? My daughter just completed all the steps, the hoops, etc.... They sent the docs to her insurance today. Not sure how long it takes for them to get approve or deny. I have BCBS... Took them 2 weeks to approve. I started process in Dec and finished in April. Surgery date is set for mid June. I am praying my daughter gets her approval fast so that she can join me on this journey.
  11. As for me, eating has always been an "emotion" thing but also a way of life. I laugh when I think back on a comment my husband made years ago. He asked me if I was going to make dinner. I responded by asking him if he was hungry. He said, "well no, but it is 6:00." Ha. So you see, I ate even when I was not hungry and not emotional. So now going forward I will tell him to go to a restaurant at 6:00 if he thinks he needs to eat. :-)
  12. Well the important thing is that you have the surgery behind you and every day from now it will get better. We all heal at different levels and time frames. I can hardly wait for my turn! Surgery is in a few weeks. I just want to start looking forward and putting the past behind me. I will happily exchange the emotional pain I have lived with for years to a bit of surgery pain. It is my belief that the surgery pain is short lived. Can't say that about the other!
  13. Mine was 4 visits with the dietitian over 4 month period....and proof of my weight over the past two years. Met those requirements and I have been approved and set for June 17th. See the surgeon the 4th for my final visit with him. Yup, I am getting excited too! And a bit scared. Guess that is normal.
  14. I discussed this with my facilitator who is working through my ins company etc. I told her that if ins does not cover the procedure many choose to go to Mexico due to the lower costs. She frankly told me that anyone doing that should be aware that it may be a problem getting a surgeon or other dr here in the states to accept a patient later should they have complications. And would the complications be covered by their ins since the actual WLS was denied by that same ins company. Lots of things to be aware of before that decision is made to go to Mexico.
  15. I am curious did you have open surgery or robotic? I have heard those that have this procedure via the robot have less pain because the incisions are much smaller.
  16. I too cried when I read your post. I am scheduled for surgery mid June. I sooooooo very much want your success story to be mine. I WILL get there!
  17. I have been enjoying my "last suppers" for the past few weeks. :-). My surgery is June 17. I keep saying eat it now cuz I can't have it afterwards. I know that is probably not the best way to go about this, but I know that once I have surgery I will have to be serious about my diet. I am not going to do this to my body and not follow plan. I just wish my surgery date was sooner. I just want to get on with my new life! I am ready for it!

    Approval Time

I have BCBS WA. I was told 2 -3 weeks after submission. I received approval 2 weeks later.

    Good luck!

Kimgettingslim... Did you buy sample pack locally or online?

    Good luck!

I have purchased some SF pudding jellos, different flavors. I was told these and SF syrups are also helpful. I have purchased various flavors and will experiment t with both the pudding and syrups after my surgery. I hear our tastes change drastically so will wait until post op to play with the various options. Anything has to be better then just the plain protein drink. Ha!

    May 21st! And Freaking Out!

Charlie horses are common for those who do not get enough water. Drink! You are likely getting dehydrated. Don't worry about eating this early on in your recovery. Focus on water first! Call your dietitian. They can be very helpful in getting you through the stages of post op.
  22. There are so many complications that come to us due to being overweight. This only increases as we get older. I am 60 and going in for surgery in a few days. My kids are ok with my decision to do this. They want me healthy so that I can be around for many years to come. That is what you want for your parents. Age should not be the issue. As long as they are healthy enough to be cleared for having surgery you should strongly support them in making this decision. They are lucky to have you there by their side should they decide to go on this journey. For me, I only wishI had decided to have this surgery years ago.... But better late than never.

    Caught A Rush....

You know the pelvic bones we saw and felt when we were thin? Yeah, well I have not seen or felt those in years! I am scheduled for sleeve surgery in June. I can hardly wait for the flat tummy too. I am am happy for you that you are already there!
  24. I was lucky enough to get insurance approval and will be having my sleeve surgery on the 17th of June in Washington state. My daughter and I wanted to do this together, but she has a different insurance company and has not jumped all the required hoops yet. We are keeping our fingers crossed in hopes that her approval will eventually come...but... If not I would be there for her if she decides to do this in Mexico. Having the surgery in Mexico is not the scary part for me though. It is the possible complications that may occur after she is back in the states. I talked to the facilitator at my docs office and she told me getting a dr to take on a patient who had the actual WLS in Mexico would be hard to find.... And if such complications created additional cost, would her insurance step up then to pay for the required followup medical care... Or would it be another trip back to Mexico. Any medical care in Mexico is out of pocket and there is only so much money she can throw at this. She is young and does not make a lot of money. It is really sad that even if a doctor recommends the surgery, knowing in the end we would be a healthier person, insurance companies still control the purse and are ultimately the ones who make the decision for us. This is just not right!

    Good luck!

My date for sleeve is June 17. I have not met. With the dr yet for final pre-op diet. Hope it is a short one! Sounds like it can run the gambit from 1 month to only a day out! Keeping my fingers crossed. I do have shakes bought and am trying to get used to those. Gotta admit... They are not so tasty.
