June 2014 Sleevers Check In!
jjinWA replied to SnohoGal98296's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mmmmmmmm.. Retried Beans, and other foods like cottage cheese, applesauce and yogurt --- When is this ok to introduce in my diet. My surgery was Tuesday. I am working with only Water, broth, Popsicles and Jello and Protein Drinks at the moment. I would like to progress to the next level but do not want to do it too soon and jeopardize my sleeve. -
Any June 16th Sleevers Out There?
jjinWA replied to Asdf12345's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was also on June 17th. I was on pain meds in the hospital and I continued taking until Thursday afternoon. I was also on zofran for the nausea. I was pretty miserable with those symptoms, but again they subsided by Thursday afternoon and I ceased taking the zofran. So far I am taking in water with no problems, except thinking I will never see the bottom of my jug. 50oz is a lot of water! Broth and Popsicles go down real easy. I just started drinking protein drinks, because unlike others I was feeling hungry today. The protein drinks did help me with that issue. No real pain, no real nausea, and no gas pain. All in all I think I am doing ok. I will enjoy my first bites of food though when I reach that mile marker. -
I have enjoyed the Popsicles, and the warm broth is a nice change too. Jello is good also. I was able to get my required 50oz of water in so can add liquid protein to my diet. That should help with the hunger. Funny though, I had heard so much about our taste buds changing after surgery. That has not happened yet for me.

You know you lost weight when
jjinWA replied to Thomas CPA's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I just returned from a trip to London. A day later I had my so surgery. I have to admit I had been fooling myself about what I was able to do when on vacation. My daughter and I did vacation in Paris several years ago and I was able to walk continuously throughout the day. With this recent trip to London was a bit of a disappointment because I could hardly walk anywhere with having to takin request rest stops. So this was a quick reminder of just how out of shape I have gotten over the years. I will plan another trip next year and will compare my progress. I am sure it will be much better results. -
I am not sure when I can move forward past the clear liquid food. So far broth, Popsicles, jello, and water is all that I have eaten. I know my hunger is going to come back if I do not eat soon. I will check with the dr tomorrow.

June 2014 Sleevers Check In!
jjinWA replied to SnohoGal98296's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my VSG on the 17 TH and got home from the hospital late yesterday evening. Some minor issue with high white cell blood count made it questionable whether I would be released. But it started coming down so I could go home. No real pain, thanks to pain meds. I am taking meds for nausea but not helping much. Dry heaves are no fun! Walking fine and having no issues with getting water in....but anything like broth, Popsicle, jello is not setting well with me. Makes me throw up. So I will stay with just water for now. I am not having buyers remorse, but I sure do wish for this first week to be over. I know it will get better. For right now, I am pretty miserable. I am starved! Surprised with that feeling. Thought I would not have that issue for some time yet. I also have hiccups numerous times per day. Don't last long each time though. Only a minor bother. -
I was sleeved on the 17th. Doing ok, except for nausea. Hate that! No gas pain, no other real pain as the pain meds are keeping that under control. No problem getting water in, and no problem getting walks in. Just can't get control over the dry heaving. Making me miserable. I did go home last night. Sleeping has been no problem.

Denied insurance. We are crushed!
jjinWA replied to jjinWA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the support. I just returned last night from having my surgery. My daughter is scheduled for surgery on the 19th of August in Mexico. I hope to be well enough to go with her. I have documented all the meds. Etc as I went through the surgery and have a questionnaire ready for them to complete. I want to know antibiotics, blood thinners, nausea and pain meds, etc will be used. How they test for leaks and if they fun lab tests before she goes home to ensure no bacteria infection has set in. I will be able to use my experiences to follow along with her surgery. That is the est we can do at this point. Wish she could have it here, but that is. To going to happen. :-( -
Yup, getting packed and ready to go. Last thing I am going to do though is take my weight on the fitbit scale and then take a picture of myself. This is the beginning of my journey on the other side. I want to document it all the way! Good luck everyone.

NEWBIES..... LETS STICK TOGETHER
jjinWA replied to pattiecakes79's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
We just booked my daughter's surgery with dr Aceves in Mexico. I am having my surgery in US because I was approved by ins. My daughter was not approved. After my research I believe this dr is just as capable as any here in the US. I am very comfortable with her going there for the procedure. -

Denied insurance. We are crushed!
jjinWA replied to jjinWA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So we received the final word from facilitator and from ins. Seems my daughter at 5'4" has to have proof of BMI over 40 for past two years..... 2013 and 2012. She was only 38 BMI in June of 2012 so they denied her. She was 40.1 in 2013 and 41 in 2014. Whatever... No comorbities documented. Her bad back, swollen ankles, painful knee are not something that was adequately documented by dr even though all were mentioned in the dr chart notes in 2013. Soooo we go to the last and final option - surgery in Mexico. Right now I have researched Illan and Aceves and have info being sent to us from both offices. I expect she should be able to do this by August. I should be well enough and on my road to recovery from my own sleeve surgery (tomorrow) by then to travel with her. We WILL get through this and will eventually look back on this as only a glitch in the journey! -
FRUSTRATED Grocery shopper..
jjinWA replied to Lifechange>40's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Premier shakes have been available at Cosco. The only protein shake I can handle, and even then I have to have very cold.... Usually serve over ice. -
Ok 17ers... We are almost there! I just finished my preregistration with the nurse. That was my LAST appointment before the big day. I report to the hospital at 8:45 tomorrow. I will shop for liquid stuff today so all of that is on hand for next week. My hubby and daughter are both going to share that day with me so I will not be alone. We all said it seemed so far off. It then you blink at it was here. Well, yes....... But I still wish I had this over with. I am worried like everyone else about the pain, gas, etc that we will likely experience from this surgery, but I know that in most cases time will be the healer and I am up for that and prepared for it. This is thanks to all of you on this site that share your knowledge and experiances. It always helps to know what I am feeling is not abnormal.... In fact I am completely normal! :-). Wow.... What a great feeling that gives me.

Denied insurance. We are crushed!
jjinWA replied to jjinWA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We are waiting for the official letter in the mail. Yes, she is willing to do RNY if necessary but at this point we have to wait to find out the details for the denial. Yes, we will fight to reverse the decision, but must consider other options if the final answer is no. We shall see. Thanks to everyone for your supporting words and advice. -

Prejudices v. Legitimate Concerns
jjinWA replied to Kooky1's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Very true. We will go with the flow, but plan B certainly includes Mexico surgeon. I will put it out there in the universe and let it happen. Nothing else I can do at this point. Thanks so much for you help and advice. Much appreciated! -

jjinWA replied to jjinWA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We will certainly work thru the appeals process and fight for the reversal. It is sad that even though you and the dr agrees what is best for you and someone who does not even know you can make have the power to alter that decision. But yes, we will keep on trying to turn it around. -
Prejudices v. Legitimate Concerns
jjinWA replied to Kooky1's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
We are going to appeal, but for now not even sure why she was denied. The surgeons office sent us an email on Friday saying it was denied. We have not actually received the letter from them directly yet. She is 38 years old at 40.3 BMI (234 lbs) with no comorbities, so likely that is the issue. Sad thing is there is nothing on paper such as diabetes, high blood pressure etc, but what they don't document is her bad knees and back, and her terribly swollen feet. And she has years of WW history along with other diets. We all know that these do not work long term. We looked at this as a chance to "reset" and start again. Funny, they paid for all the pre-tests, but now say they will not cover the surgery. So, yup, we will appeal, but honestly the Mexico surgeons are likely are only option at this point. -
Prejudices v. Legitimate Concerns
jjinWA replied to Kooky1's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
We just heard that my daughter's insurance denied her coverage for the sleeve. We are so discouraged. Never was against Mexico option, but wanted it closer to home for fear of complications. Well, we are down to one option now.... So we need to look into surgeons. So overwhelmed. Anything you can to to assist me in the research would be greatly appreciated. You can reply here or even use my email address. jjvailrr32@yahoo.com -
86% will regain the weight they lost after WLS
jjinWA replied to Dreamin Again's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
At least I have always been told this is what causes yoyo dieting.... We limit calories in extreme and then go back to eating normal, and with lower set metabolism we gain back the weight and then some. That is how I got here in the first place. I want to be successful this time... And I worry that a lower metabolism from very low calorie intake will set me up for failure down the road... again... :-(. Anyone know how to avoid this? -
86% will regain the weight they lost after WLS
jjinWA replied to Dreamin Again's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have wondered how WLS affects metabolism long term, and due to very low calorie count in the beginning months, doers this "reset" our metabolism rate and this when we go back to 1000 -1200 calories a day, that is now way too much and ultimately causes weight regain.
