  1. Hi there, I have a question for post op and veteran by pass patients. I have a major sweet tooth and although I know the focus is to live a healthy life style I was just curious if sweets are out of the question forever or if you are able to handle them in moderation (such as having one chocolate and not the whole box). I know everyone's body handles sugars differently, i just want to know if you personally experience dumping from small amounts of sugar. Thanks in advance!!!!

    Sweet tooth

I actually am pretty good with self control. I can make a piece of saltwater taffy last me 15 minutes! I'm just not sure if i need to learn to say good bye to those little sweets.

    Sweet tooth

Chelly, thank you for so many replacement options! Still curious if I were to eat something like a Halloween sized candy bar if I'd get dumping.

Thank you Martha! It must have been terrifying having leakage I'm glad you are okay. I hope the rest of your journey is smooth sailing!

Martha, congratulations on taking the first step to a healthy life and continuing to trek on! Why do you think you gained 100 pounds back? My doctor told me that they don't leave so much intestine anymore so there isn't as many absorption issues and there is no dumping. Plus if things go really wrong then you can have it undone. But I am worried about the long term success because I have read a lot of people gain weight back because that part of your stomach is so stretchy. What's stopping me from the sleeve is if anything goes wrong in surgery it's harder to fix the sleeve, I'm not sure of the long term success, and I have a major sweet tooth so I was almost hoping for the dumping to help me move past it. I'm 5'4 and weigh 245 pounds so I'd love to loose 105 pounds and am not sure if I could even do that with the sleeve. I have pcos but no other medical complications. I think I've been so excited about the surgery that I've forgotten it's a tool not a solution.

From Edmonton, ab. Still waiting on a surgery date and undecided if I should have the bypass or the sleeve.

    HAIR LOSS!

I am a hairdresser and I thought I might be able to shed some light on products such as nioxin. Nioxin was originally made for cancer patients. It works as an extreme cleanser to remove build up in your scalp. I have not had my surgery yet but I assume hair loss is from diet changes and things like nioxin won't help because your hair grows from within! Protien, biotin, and IRON are the best things I can recommend and if you want to speed up growth adding a few drops of mint essential oil into your shampoo will help stimulate your scalp. Hope this might help some of you
