Veterans ONLY please. One year + post op.

I love this idea so hard. I mostly lurk these days, but the idea of a Vet's Forum is very appealing. I'm 2 years out next month and my needs/questions/concerns are much different now from when I was a newbie.

    Protein bars

The Power Crunch Crips bars in Sweet Vanilla Dream and chocolate Brownie Wonder are delicious. As are the Premier Protein Fiber bars in Peanut Butter Caramel and Chocolate Mint.

    Veterans....#1 thing you miss / don't miss

Like most of you, I miss being able to eat what I want, as much as I want. Like pizza and tacos and stuff like that. I don't miss being afraid to sit down someplace new thinking I was going to break the chair.
  6. I had long hair, too, and it started coming out in handfuls around 5 months out. It looked awful and I felt awful about it. One day I just snapped and cut it short and I couldn't be happier about it. About month 6 the loss seemed to stop, but my hair is still short. Because I like it. LOL
  7. Parmesan Roasted Acorn Squash - 1 (2 pound) acorn squash - halved lengthwise, seeded, and cut into 3/4-inch slices - 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese - 8 sprigs fresh thyme - 2 tablespoons olive oil - 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, or to taste - 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper, or to taste Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Toss squash slices, Parmesan cheese, thyme, olive oil, salt, and pepper together in a bowl until the squash is evenly coated; spread into a jelly roll pan. Roast in preheated oven until golden brown and tender, 25 to 30 minutes

    My Favorite Meal!

This is my lunch go-to; I eat it almost every day and never seem to get tired of it: Buffalo chicken salad Shredded chicken breast, about 9 oz. (I usually poach my own, but I've also used canned or the Perdue Short Cuts) 2 oz. crumbled blue cheese 5.3 oz container plain Greek yogurt chopped celery/onion garlic powder/dried dill/S&P to taste Frank's Red Hot until it's at your preferred spice level. This lasts me all week, and I typically eat it with pork rinds or 34 degree crackers.

What body type do you have after your weight loss?

Yeah, low rise is my choice, too. If they're anything else, they look like jodhpurs. LOL

What body type do you have after your weight loss?

I'm a rectangle. LOL It's hard to find pants because everything is cut for women with hips and I ain't got 'em.

    What's for Breakfast?!

This morning I had a hard boiled egg and a piece of toast with a schmear of Brummel & Brown. And coffee. Most weekday mornings, though, it's yogurt or cottage cheese.

    Adjusting to new body...

OMG, this totally happened to me around that weight loss mark. I needed to find my center of gravity again. One time I fell over when I was getting up from the couch. I used a little too much "oomph" to get to a standing position and momentum just kept me going forward until I face planted on the ottoman.
  15. At this point I've lost 85% of my excess body weight and I'm just over 11 months out. Eyes on the prize, baby! Like anaxila said, averages are just that.

Protein Bars not feeling so good

They're my cracker replacement. LOL I love them with tuna or chicken salad. And 80 calories w/8 grams of Protein is a win in my book!

Protein Bars not feeling so good

This happens to me too, especially the chocolate based Quest flavors. I think I'm sensitive to the sugar alcohols or something. I can only eat half at a time and even then it's iffy. The mint Quest flavor was particularly bad and sent me running for the bathroom within 30 minutes. So, I finally learned my lesson and just gave up on the Protein bars. If I'm on the run I'll carry stuff like beef Jerky, nuts or pork rinds.
  19. I'm in Syracuse! It's pretty rough at the beginning, but it gets easier for sure. I'm 11 months out.

    Too much for me

The learning curve is steep. I had lots of days in the first couple of months where I just cried because I hated everything, nothing tasted good, and I was pissed because even though nothing tasted good, I couldn't even finish what I was eating. LOL I promise you it gets better.

    Protein Shakes

I haven't used the shakes/drinks since very early out, at my surgeon's request. That was a very good thing, because I couldn't stomach most of them. I do, however, have a Click Mocha Protein espresso from time to time because it's delicious!

    Rochester NY

Yay for you! I didn't really have much pain, but the gas discomfort was no joke. It was like up around my shoulders and made it difficult to get comfy. But, walking the halls relieved it a little, so I did a lot of that. And I was able to swallow pills right away without any problems.
