  1. I had RNY gastric bypass surgery. This was the list that I was given. 3 Flintstone complete chewable Multivitamins daily. [This type of Vitamin is preferred because of absorption. Although if you are a few years post-op you might be able to substitute Multivitamin capsules. Gummy Vitamins are not acceptable.) Additional 65 milligrams elemental Iron daily for menstruating women. [should be ferrous sulfate for best absorption.] 1500 to 1800 mg. Calcium citrate daily. 500 to 1000 micrograms sublingual B12 daily [should be methylcobalamin for best absorption.] or 1000 mcg B12 injection monthly. 5000 I.U. vitamin D3. [but do not exceed 5000 I.U.] 100 mg Thiamine (vitamin B1) daily for one year following surgery and then weekly thereafter.

    Vomiting on 4th day

I never experienced vomiting from consuming Protein shakes. From my discussion with many who took Protein Shakes before and after surgery, vomiting is not a common problem. For me after surgery, my taste buds change as it does for many. Things that I could tolerate before tasted awful after surgery. So it is important to experiment until you find a shake you can tolerate.

    Bariatric weightloss medications

I am 3 years post op RNY gastric bypass surgery. I am 67 years old. I had the surgery because my condition of being overweight was destroying my body. I had developed high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea and GERD. All those conditions were resolved shortly after surgery. I physically now have the stamina that I had when I was in my 30's. For example during each of the last couple years, I moved over 100,000 pounds of gravel and concrete blocks by hand for one of my home building projects.

    Not getting much support.

I never had the band but I did get a RNY gastric bypass surgery over 3 years ago and I am satisfied. My pouch is small after surgery so if I try and overeat, my stomach does punish me. I am maintaining fairly well. I find softer foods such as chili and Soups go down easier than harder foods such as steak. So overall I am pleased. My primary objective in the surgery was to combat most of my destructive health conditions. I had diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and GERD plus some more before surgery. They went away within 2 weeks after surgery.

    Hunger pains?

Remember when you hit your bottom weight that meeting your daily Protein, Fluid, and Vitamin requirements is still important. I wonder if your body is craving protein. As you close in on the Maintenance Phase, the strategy is different. Here is my perception of the Maintenance Phase. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery2.pdf
  7. I spent the entire day Friday at an amusement/water park with the grandkids. We finally got home around midnight. I didn't find it to be too hot even though it was near 90. I walked the entire day and even hit the coasters. Didn't sweat too much. I am 67 and doing this before surgery would have taxed my system quite a bit. So I guess you could say that I can tolerate this more.

    Hunger pains?

I didn't experience this. But I remember when I hit bottom I suffered severe constipation.
  9. For the first year after surgery, I walked 30 minutes per day, every day.
  10. Since you had your surgery over 9 months ago, your wounds from surgery should have healed. So the bleeding is probably not directly related to surgery. To think about it, I did experience something similar around a year and a half post op. It was a 5 day stomach flu. I had all the symptoms that you described except for the bloody stool. I lost almost 7 pounds during that flu and banked the added weight loss. In my case I didn't panic because my wife came down with the stomach flu a week or two earlier, so I knew it was coming. Did anyone close to you suffer from a stomach flu recently?

    Down to the wire

Good luck. It seems like insurance companies are always throwing up roadblocks.

Is it a long stall or am I finished losing?

As you lose weight if you concentrated on consuming high Protein meals, then you can start to reduce your reliance on protein supplements (Protein shakes, protein bars) and the calories they contain. So I went from 3 shakes per day, down to 2, down to 1 and then at a year and a half when my meal volume was 1 cup I complete went off the protein supplements. This was the method I used to break my stalls. Your protein requirement is a combination of the protein you obtain from meals combined with the protein from supplements. Entering maintenance mode will occur gradually. This is my experience with the maintenance phase. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery2.pdf

    Surgery Date!

It is always good to take a good before photograph of yourself so you can compare it with your after photo. Don't rely on the one in your surgeons office. Make one for yourself. Many times we really don't look at ourselves before surgery. So after surgery we don't see the changes.

    Help needed

I am 3 years post-op RNY gastric bypass surgery. I found softer foods such as chili and Soups go down easier than harder foods such as steak. I have included a few recipes at the end of the following article. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

Post op, September surgery, my story

    Congratulations. Actually double congratulations.
  18. I was wondering when you had surgery and what type. There could be several causes. Here is an internet link. http://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/bleeding-digestive-tract?page=2 So whatever the condition it needs to be examined and identified by a doctor. The fact that you had chest pains is also disturbing. The dizziness sounds like you are experiencing low blood sugar. If you were on diabetes medicine or insulin prior to surgery, it may be time to adjust down your dosage or complete eliminate the medicine. Many individuals who had gastric bypass also experience reactive hypoglycemia. But this condition normal first occurs in patients that are over 1 year post-op. https://www.ridgeviewmedical.org/services/bariatric-weight-loss/enewsletter-articles/reactive-hypoglycemia-postgastric-bypass
  19. Two days but I felt like I was ready to go home after the first day.

    Scary noises

Interesting. A few days ago, someone told me the sound of a mountain lion sounds like a woman high pitched wailing.
  21. I replaced my scale because it was inaccurate. I would stand on the scale and take a measurement. Then I would repeat it and get two totally different numbers, sometimes several pounds off. So what I looked for in a scale was something that was repeatable. A scale that I could read without having to bend down to read the numbers. I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond and purchased a "beurer Model BF-66". It gives readings in 0.2 pound increments. The readings are repeatable. The readings are large and visible. I have used it for 3 years now and I am pleased with it.

    6.6 years with band.....

The only individual that I personally knew who had a revision from a lap band did so because the band was eroding into his stomach and was about to rupture. He had to have it removed otherwise it would be fatal. That is not to say that your lap band has a problem. But I think this type of problem caused many doctors to stop performing lap band surgery.
