Not one of the lucky ones

This lasted a few months for me. Acid reflux was particularly bad. I was told to see the GI doc that was part of my pre-screen. He told me to stay away from chocolate (protein drinks) and them prescribed a pump inhibitor that I couldn't afford. That's where I started researching natural remedies.

Geez... Had the same issues. On top of nausea..GERD, gas, and profound hunger, often at the same time. Give yourself some time and love. This is the way your body is responding to major surgery! I couldn't vomit either! Also our relationship and view of food will be VERY different. You won't ever look at food the same way again. As for me, I look at food as a vehicle for vitamin intake and not much else, since I don't even enjoy eating anymore! My family DOES NOT know that I had the procedure done, so this is a very lonely journey for me. I digress... You have only just made it through surgery and are going through 'growing pains'. Breathe and drink as much as you can while transitioning... Go slow and listen to your body signals of fullness. You'll be great!
  3. Lisa, you are going to get through this. Do you have YouTube? Please search for "cancer sodium bicarbonate dr. Simoneceli Italian" it is not too late for your hubby and you have nothing to lose. I am a Catholic, so I understand your thoughts at this time. God wants everyone to enjoy health and sublime joy until he calls us home. We know our name, but not our number. Please, for anyone reading my post, follow th link for YouTube that I mentioned above. As for GERD, incorporate pickles, sauerkraut, sour cream, and yogurt and or kefir to your diet. Eat raw or organic where possible. Also, since our stomachs are smaller, listen to your new body signals... Don't over eat. Sometimes that only means two or three bites of food, but it's worth it not to have the pain of acid reflux. You can always eat later! Don't forget to drink your water, beautiful people, bottoms up, lol! Forget the Cristal Light, have a glass of water with something citrons-y like lime or orange... Heck, even Apple or cucumber is nice... It's close to no calories and it flavors the water.... Oh, and yes, I've tried the baking soda, an even the vinegar and it works. If it stops working, do it again. You can't do that with an anti acid! My one vice that does work is a little ice cream... Probably because of the milk. Get some full fat Bryer's... You'll be fine. To all, be well!
  4. Have you tried a more natural means to helping the GERD? Baking soda in water or apple cider vinegar in water? Lisa please give your husband 1 teaspoon of baking powder in a cup of water 3x a day. Please try... If you need additional information, send a friend request!

sick and they cant find anything

First, no matter what... KEEP DRINKING! After you do that, get a full vitamin panel and take a really good multi. Start there and then bother the hell out of your doc...

    Thinking of Quitting- I'm overwhelmed

You will be fine... I continue to eat healthily, get your water and protein in. You've come this far! As for me, the pre-op diet was more to prepare myself MENTALLY for what was coming... Post-op, I was losing slowly, then BAM! It went pretty quickly! Over 100lbs a year in. You'll be great!

    42 up and pregnant

I'm looking to have a baby in the future too! If I were you, I would start by getting a full vitamin panel... Know where you stand. You probably need to consider everything' not just Folic Acid....
  9. I pretty much don't "exercise" because of severe osteoarthritis (knees, hip, back). Almost a year out and have lost nearly 100lbs. Looking to lose about 25 lbs. everyone is different. Give yourself some time and love.

    MAJOR regrets

I lost weight so I'm happy about that and my surgeon did what he was supposed to. He's a good guy. That's out of the way! I had hiatal hernia surgery too. I'm a year in, and my biggest issues are acid reflux and arthritis not caused by the surgery... I thought that the sleeve would alleviate it! I was wrong! The arthritis is WORSE! Please don't worry about regrets... Move forward! For me, to help with acid reflux, fermented food like pickles and sauerkraut help in between meals. Increase you B12... You're not breaking down your proteins well. Eat organic if possible. To help with heartburn have apple cider vinegar in a cup of water... Baking soda in water with a little lemon or lime works too. Many believe that we should all megadose on vitamins. It's safe... You will have more energy, won't have any hair loss etc...Let me know how you do.
  12. Pretty close to goal... About 25lbs and it's going faster than I'd like... I added more veggies to the mix. Flabby skin, but plan on total body lift in the future. Some fatigue , but serious heartburn is an issue and it causes me to eat even less than I'm supposed to. I drink many meals now. Socializing is pretty strange now.

    Heartburn!

I did Omeprazole and still found out that it didn't work for me long-term. Terrible heartburn at night, even sitting up! Stopped taking Omeprazole (your stomach is supposed to make acid to break down your food!) and take chewable stuff, or alka -seltzer... Even Apple cider vinegar or baking powder with a little lemon. My heartburn is pretty intense. Fermented foods like pickles or sauerkraut help.
