So, I'm at 7cc's in my 10cc band. I have a fill appointment at the end of the month and I'm not quite sure if I'm at my sweet spot. Since the last fill I have had that "Stuck" feeling 3 times but I know it was because I was starving and rushing a bit since I hadn't eaten for quite some time. I still can eat a bit more that I would expect and I'm not really sure if I should get another. I'm a bit worried if I get another fill that I will be too tight and not be able to eat. Has anyone had more that 7cc's in their band and been ok? I was thinking maybe if I go to 7.5 it won't be so significant that I'll get stuck constantly but enough to get to my sweet spot. I know it varies from person to person. I'm just looking for an average I guess. Thanks for your help!:biggrin2:

I've caught a horrible cold/cough and have gone to see the doc for antibiotics. Has anyone had a slipped band or any type of damage from a severe cough? I'm so worried I'm going to cause damage since I'm coughing so hard. I'm taking cough syrup and drops like I own stock in the companies but I still can't stop coughing and I'm really worried. Thanks!:huh2:

I had a question.....I've had one fill since my banding in October and have pretty much no restriction. I know that can be normal and is referred to as bandster's hell sometimes. My question is I burp a lot while eating and for a good hour afterward. Not all the time but quite often. I know on occasion I eat a little too fast or don't chew chew chew like I should but not often. I've never pb'd or what ever you call it and I've never thrown up but I do burp like a guy drinking beer quite often and it's really embarassing at times. Is this normal, has anyone else experienced this? I'm wondering if it's just because I don't have any restriction so I can eat quite a bit. I don't eat as much as I used to but I am able to eat more that I would have expected. Any advice?:paranoid

I had my surgery with Dr. Jan last month on the 16th. He was very nice and answered all of my questions. He kept me overnight since I had a hiatal hernia. I had a lot of chest pressure from the repair of the hernia and when I had concerns he scheduled an appointment for me to see him right away. I've read a few comments about his office and I haven't had an issues. Everyone has been real friendly and prompt with returning calls. The only issue I've run into is one of the asst doctors who checks you in and talks to you before Dr. Jan comes in doesn't speak english very well. I found myself asking the same questions I asked Dr. Ghandi again to Dr. Jan since I really didn't understand his responses very well. Dr. Jan was very happy to go over all of the questions I had.

It's where your stomach is pushing through your esophigas (probably spelled that wrong). They pull it back and repair it with a few stiches like a hernia. )

I had my surgery last month and my 1st fill will be December 10th. I currently can eat much more than I thought I could since having the surgery. I do get full sooner that I normally would have before the band but I can eat much more than a 1/2 a cup to a cup of food. Is this normal until you get a fill? I'm scared I may be damaging my pouch even though i'm not really getting full. Has anyone else had this issue?

Thanks for the encouragement I really appreciate it! I was so worried that something just wasn't right. I'm trying to keep in mind to go slow and not look at the scale but gosh it's hard. I know I shouldn't be looking at the scale in hopes that the pounds will just melt off but I feel kind of in a rut. Hopefully once I get a fill I will notice a difference. Thanks! Happy Holidays!!!

Hi~ I'm a fellow oregonian and live in Aloha. I was banded by Dr. Jay Jan last month. My first fill is scheduled for December 10th. Everything went pretty routine as far as the surgery went. Dr. Jan did find a hiatal hernia which he repaired at the same time. So far I've been very happy with him and most of his staff. I'm glad to see there are several bandsters out there who are from Oregon.

help hiatal hernia
misjanete replied to Newbeginnings's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Spiritus I just wanted to compare with someone who had a hernia as well. Do you get pain/pressure often even if you're not drinking something? I do, I'm assuming it's just because I'm extra swollen above the band and it's just taking longer to heal. I'm sore around the incisions and especially the port incision but the chest pressure and pain is completely different. Just wanted to see if what I am feeling may be normal and if you've had any issues with it? -
help hiatal hernia
misjanete replied to Newbeginnings's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had surgery on October 16th. They found a hiatal herina when they went into place the band. My doctor took care of it and put the band in as well. I'm having a lot more pressure and pain than I expected originally but I think it's because there's more swelling from the hernia repair. I don't see why your doctor couldn't do both at the same time. My doctor didn't make it seem like it was a big deal. He made it seem like it happens quite often. Hopefully I'll be feeling better in a few days. I would get a second opinion if you're worried about it! -
TENaciousTENS "roll call" as promised!
misjanete replied to OregonHolly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Topdownbug! I'm glad to hear you're doing well. I don't have an aol address but feel free to "pm" me. How has the gas pain been? I'm having a bit of pain from the gas but mostly in the upper chest. I'm assuming it's from the Hiatal Hernia that was repaired. I put a call into my Doctor but of course they're closed for the weekend. The on call doctor didn't seemed to concerned but he doesn't speak english well. If the pain and discomfort keeps up I'll probably put in another call. How is your appetite? Are you getting along okay by yourself? Do you have someone who can check up on you? I have my mom staying with me and helping me with my 2 year old son. He's a handful when I'm feeling fine so I'm glad I'm not having to do it alone. Keep me posted on your healing! -
TENaciousTENS "roll call" as promised!

Well I'm home from my surgery on the 16th. The admitting was horrible. I wasn't allowed to drink anything 12 hours before my surgery and so it took them 8 times to find a spot on me to put my IV. I'm a hard stick normally but even worse when I'm dehydrated. The surgery went fine. My doctor fixed a Hiatal hernia, not sure if I'm spelling that right. It's when the top of your stomach is pushing up into your esophigous, so I'm a little sore high up as well. They kept me over night and couldn't sleep a wink at the hospital. I used the time while I was awake to do laps around the hallways to try and work out the gas. It hasn't been too bad so far. But just the overall soreness has been quite bad. I can definitely say that I am not hungry one bit. Hopefully that stays until my fill. I'm trying to keep hydrated and making sure that I get as much protein as possible. I'll be praying for all the October Bandsters!! -
TENaciousTENS "roll call" as promised!
misjanete replied to OregonHolly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks Mistydxt I'm going to have a break for 2 days. I have surgery on Tuesday and I've arranged for my sons Godmother to take him until Thursday afternoon. Hopefully that will be enough time. The only 3 problems I see are when I put him in or out of the tub, getting him into bed and in his carseat. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. The last thing I want is to pull my port or cause a hernia or something. Yikes. -

Hello all! I'm scheduled for banding on the 16th I'm scared, excited, nervous, all at the same time. I'm a little nervous about taking care of my son. I'm a single mother and my son is 2. He still needs to be picked up to be put in his car seat and crib, etc. Hopefully I can figure out how to do it with out damaging myself when my surgery is complete! I'll be praying for all the October bandsters to be. Janet :nervous -
Keeping my surgery secret from most of my family, has anyone else
misjanete posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm in the final stages of getting the band. Waiting for insurance approval and setting the date. My aunt who was extremely overweight 450+ had gastric bypass surgery 9/11/01 and died a year later from complications from the surgery. I've told my mother and my best friend and they completely support me in getting the band and will be there for me. I'm not going to tell the rest of the family. I know the subject is extremely touchy and don't need any negative comments. Has anyone else had to keep their surgery under wraps? How have you delt with it? -
Questions regarding soda drinks
misjanete replied to missy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't been banded yet but according to my doctor you're not supposed to drink 15 minutes before you eat and an hour after. It's not because you may throw up but because it will move the food to quickly through your new smaller stomach (pouch) and will defeat the purpose of getting the full feeling. As far as soda goes, my doc told me that eventually a soda once in a while is ok. Diet is preferred since there's no calories but he advised if the carbination bothers your stomach to either stop drinking it or let it sit out for a few hours to decrease the fizziness. -
What's the average wait time for Surgery after insurance approval
misjanete posted a topic in Insurance & Financing
I've completed all my required tests and had my final appointment with the surgeon and am now awaiting for insurance approval. My surgeon seems to think it will take a couple of weeks since BCBS is pretty speedy. My concern is I have to be on a pre-op diet for 4 weeks before the surgery and I'm not sure what the usual wait time is to get your surgery date after you recieve insurance approval. I don't want to start the diet until I receive my sample packet that has several different kinds of protien drinks to try out. I don't want to waste alot of money trying out different brands before finding one that tastes good, but at the same time I'm worried that I won't have the time to complete the diet before my surgery is scheduled if I wait for my sample packet to come in the mail. It's not scheduled to be shipped for 1-2 weeks. Does anyone know the average wait time for surgery scheduling? Thanks!!! -
What's the average wait time for Surgery after insurance approval
misjanete replied to misjanete's topic in Insurance & Financing
Thanks! I called my doctors office yesterday to see if they know how long they are scheduling surgery out for, for my paticular doctor and they said 3 weeks.is the average but that's not always the case. So assuming the insurance give's their answer next week I've really got to be on this pre-op diet asap. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the sample packet come quick. I've started the pre-op diet without the protien shakes until it comes in the mail. Hopefully that will work. -
Hi Debi; I'm going in for my appointment with Dr. Jan who is in the same office as Emma Patterson on Monday. I haven't noticed anyone who's been banded by either since I've been on this site but only been checking it out for a few days. I'm really nervous too, especially since I started checking out all the postings about complications. I have quite a few questions I would like to ask now but a little worried too. I was asked to lose 13 pounds before the surgery and it's been quite a battle since I just had foot surgery and cannot exercise to aid my efforts. I'm hoping that they will take that into consideration when I meet with the doc on Monday to discuss the surgery

misjanete replied to justwaitin2b's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I would like to give a big thank you to everyone who makes comments on this forum. I've just joined and I've found this site very helpful and sometimes scary. I go in on Monday to meet with the surgeon to talk about the operation and have come up with a lot of questions I would like to ask my doc when I go in thanks to everyone's comments and concerns about the lapband!
