    The Last Straw

I always thought of dumping as a good thing, and it's one of the reasons I chose gastric bypass over the others . My self control with sweets and high fat foods were out of control & I needed something to keep me on the right track, and it does!! I have dumped twice, once right after surgery from drinking my protein shake too fast, and the other on mashed potatoes which surprised me. I don't get horrible stomach pains just severe nausea, dizziness, heart palpitations and sleepiness, that's enough to keep me on track! But I'm glad it happens!

    Not losing

I decided at the very beginning of this surgery that I will only weigh myself 2x a month. The scale has played such a negative roll for me in the past. Numbers aren't everything but it's what we all really want to see for proof that we are losing! I figure even if I only lose a pound or 2 in the 2 weeks at least it's a loss and I can go on my happy way for 2 more weeks lol. My surgery was May 8 and as of last Monday my total loss is only 35 pounds ( that's including 13 pounds lost pre op). I've decided I'm just going to be a slow loser. Although i wish the scale said I weigh less, I can see the pounds melting off and my clothes are finally getting too big, so I'm concentrating more on that now. I started in a size 18-20 and I wore a pair if size 16 pants to work yesterday ( no elastic or anything lol), my shirts are starting to look too big and baggy, so those are the things I'm concentrating on instead of numbers.

    Hair falling out

I bought mine at Ulta but I'm sure other places have it too. If you google where to buy it it will tell you. Mine cost 44.00 but worth it!

    Hair falling out

I worry also so I started Biotin a month before surgery & I still take it. 2 weeks ago I went ahead and started the Nioxin shampoo I've read great reviews and you see good results of new hair growth after about 3 months. I have long fine hair, I figured maybe if I get a jump start before it starts falling out it won't be so bad lol. I already see new growth at my "bang" line from the biotin it's like baby fine and uneven but at least it's new growth. I'm just over 5 weeks post op. Even if the Nioxin doesn't work it makes my hair super shiny and my scalp feels super clean.

    What ya eating tonight?

I made chili in the crock pot and cooked it a little longer than usual to soften the ground beef a little extra. Also made roast beef in the pressure cooker with carrots and cooked it longer than usual so the beef was soft. Lots of protein & it'll last all week ( unless the family eats it all up quick). I used the beef broth & water that I cooked the roast in and dipped the TINY bites of beef in it to keep it soft, went down great! I can't seem to stomach chicken anymore.

    Wearing cpap after surgery?

Please keep wearing your CPAP! If you feel like the pressure is too high tell your dr and have them lower it. I am a RN and worked in a sleep clinic for years ....... Weight loss can definitely improve your apnea but it doesn't necessarily mean it will completely go away. Some people think that only overweight or old people have sleep apnea, that is so not true. We had many people in our clinic weighing 100 pounds soaking wet who have severe sleep apnea so it's not just weight related. However there were also patients who were very overweight and when they lost the weight the sleep apnea went away. You won't know if your apnea is gone unless you have another sleep study, I have a CPAP and I hate it but won't stop wearing it until I know my apnea is gone.
  7. Robyn I also had surgery on 5/8. I lost 8 pounds the first week, and now an additional 7 so since surgery only 15 pounds, 13 pounds on my pre op. I feel like it's slow too. My weight on day of surgery was 244, I know the heavier you are the more you lose at first. I guess I want instant gratification every week but I'm learning that's nots going to happen.
  8. THis is my first cycle after surgery, I'm having all the pms, cramps, bloating etc and I'm always regular. I guess I started 2 days ago but it's not even enough to wear a panty liner ( sorry TMI)! It's never this way & was wondering if anyone else has had this issue ? I had surgery May 8th. Thanks!
  9. Ok I figured it had to do with surgery.
  10. I take the Celebrate calcium 500 chewables. I take 3 a day, they are big but they taste really good to me, I bought cherry tart flavor and they taste like sweet tarts.

    Question about calories

I'm 13 days post op, my nutritionist told me to stay under 500 calories for right now. She said as I move on later in the year it will be 1000-1200 per day. She also said keep sugars less than 10 per serving and carbs less than 15 per serving. I also starting working out, I was wondering if I should increase my protein. I'm also still on soft/ smooth food for another 3 weeks.
  13. I also went to the gym for the first time yesterday, had my surgery may 8th. I was able to do 30 mins on the treadmill but I was definitely pushing it, started to get a few small pains on my right abdomen area so I knew to stop then. But it felt so good to go! How often do you plan on going? I really want to start on the weight machines but I think it's way to soon for that.
  14. Angelface, those are great numbers!! I was hoping for more but I'll take the 8. I have 6 incisions, luckily they are all small I'll be glad when they are all healed. I had tuna with lowfat mayo last night, it was so good to taste something with texture! I'm on this soft/smooth diet until my one month follow up then I'll move on to regular foods. Well if we are talking TMI I've had 3 this week lol! What is sore is it your incisions or your pouch?
  15. My surgery was May 8th. I had my 1 week post op appt yesterday, I am down 8 pounds, that's a pound a day. I lost 13 lbs on the pre op so 21 pounds in 3 weeks. I've been advanced to soft/smooth foods. So now I can have tuna, canned chicken, beans etc. I feel so good, besides not eating much I barely even feel like I had surgery !! No pain, never had nausea really. I'm walking 2 miles a day now. My energy is better, feeling really positive!
  16. STOP WEIGHING YOURSELF THIS EARLY. I just 6 days postoperative and won't get on a scale for at least 3 weeks per the doctor. The only thing we should be focused on his proper intake Protein and Water this early. Hang in there I'm sure in 2 months were going to be shocked at the loss. It didn't come on overnight. All the best. I agree, I've decided that I will only weigh myself every 2 weeks, the scale will play head games with you! I weighed this week (1 week out) because I had a 1 week follow up appointment. Next weigh in is 2 weeks from now.
  17. Hi Robyn I also had surgery May 8th, I lost 8 pounds my first week. I was really hoping for more but I also lost 13 pounds on my 2 week pre op diet. I happy with 21 pounds in 3 weeks. I'm gonna try hard not to let the number on the scale get to me!!

    New Food For Post Ops...

Wow we are keeping you super busy !! Could you also send it my way? Jolenepaton@gmail.com
  19. Glad you feel better. My surgery was the day before yours. I finally lost the 11 lbs I gained during hospital stay. Yay! I haven't had any bad feelings when eating. Sometimes I feel like I get hungry to often though. Keep up the great work. Tebowfan thanks. I haven't weighed myself yet I'm waiting until Friday. I know I was really swollen from all the fluids afterwards buts that all gone now. I'm hoping for at least a 10 lb weight loss the first week.
  20. Cupcake thanks and no binder.
  21. Glad your surgery went well!! Get lots of rest!
  22. Hello, well I had the gastric bypass last Thursday May 8th so I'm 5 days post op. I believe I dumped today!!! Yesterday I was able to get all my fluids in and all my protein so I was pretty excited. So today I was following my plan to increase my protein from 4 oz at a time to 8 oz at a time. Well 8 ounces went down fine no problems but I must have drank it too fast . About 10 minutes after I drank my shake I got very light headed/dizzy, sweaty, heart racing, and double vision . At the time I didn't relate it to dumping I guess because I was thinking that only happened with fatty and high sugar foods. But it passed after about 20 mins, afterwards I felt really weak for a couple hrs but I feel fine now. I hated the experience but I'm glad I'm learning this before I go back to work. This is definitely life changing. I can have creamy soups, sf pudding, yogurt but honestly nothing tastes good to me so I've just been doing the shakes and water. I tried tomato soup and a yogurt but they don't taste the same anymore. Anyway just please take it slow and listen to your body!
  23. I never comprehended how we are suppose to get protein in when it's a clear liquid diet for 7 days(for me anyways) Nolagirl I agree, even on full liquid at this stage it is not easy.
  24. Amullf2...you are 3 weeks out, how long did it take to start feeling better? I'm only 4 days post op but I can't wait to feel better, at least a little more energy.
