    Excersice!

I walk about two miles every day. I have since about 3 weeks post op (I'm almost 8 months post op now). In the first few weeks I would just go around the block or a couple of blocks. Originally I planned to use Fridays as a rest day if I needed them. I did that once or twice, but found that I felt way better on the days I just went ahead and walked. Sometimes I'll mix in some jogging, but I don't do it continuously for very long because I'm not there yet. I alternate walking and jogging.

    Coke Zero pre op diet

I would just let it go now and make your life after surgery that much easier. You may find that you miss enough things already without adding a soda habit to the list. I'm pretty sure that everyone would agree that carbonation after surgery is a big no-no, at least for a while. I've read others that go ahead after some time, but when you are freshly post-op, you need to let your staple-line heal up. I doubt that I'll ever partake in sodas again diet or no, because I found that they just led me down a path of worse and worse choices in the past. It doesn't happen to everyone like that, but they did me no favors.
  3. @@Babbs Sometimes they can make it so awkward when really- no i'm fine- i just don't want a drink. Thanks, but please just go ahead and put in that order.

Period Pains... what CAN I take?

My surgeon said tylenol was fine. Just no ibuprofen or other NSAIDS. I loved my advil before surgery, but the tylenol seems to do fine for me now. Hope this helps.

mmmmm pickles. I still haven't eaten one, although I've thought about it. I just don't want to use the room that could be going toward Protein :/

    What is your goal weight?

My surgeon never set a goal, but did tell me that the 60% excess weight loss (the average for the sleeve) would put me at 207. I'm 169 right now, and I have 2 goals. First, I'd like to hit 150 and be a healthy bmi, and my ultimate stretch goal is 140 so that I can have a little room to bounce as I transition into maintenance. I'd like to maintain between 140-145. In high school I was typically somewhere between 165-175, so I guess we'll see how it all shakes out.
  8. I started out at a BMI of 55, and had the sleeve done about 7.5 months ago. Now I'm down to BMI 28 and it's still coming off. At this point (still fairly early in the journey) it seems to be all about compliance with the program. I exercise every day, mostly walking. I pay attention especially to Protein, Water, and Vitamins. I really didn't want to go with RNY because of the malabsorption and the more invasive procedure with the re-routing of intestines. I also had the same question that you did about which I should choose since I was starting out so big. I am really, really happy with my sleeve, and I think I'll make it to my ultimate goal of 140.
  9. That is awesome. At least you have a great excuse and a good story to tell when you meet him! Keep it up. Best of luck

    One year out today

Congratulations! You look fantastic. Congratulations on exceeding your goals
  13. There are several options for drinking stuff that isn't Water, but I would stay away from drinks with sugar in them. Try decaffeinated iced tea, crystal light, mio, true lemon, etc. Could you be about to head into a menstrual cycle? That can seriously mess with the numbers on the scale. Just something to keep in mind as you go forward.I can't say that I've ever watched my sodium. I mainly focus on the Protein and carbs in my food. During the soft food stage it seemed like most of the foods they allowed did have a higher carb content (refried Beans, yogurt, etc.) than the foods in the shake stage or in the stages after it when you can start eating more straight meat and cheese. Are you tracking your food? My fitness pal (MFP) tracks all the important stuff for you when you enter in your foods. It can make it easier for you to see where things are going wrong (if anything is).I agree with the other post. It can take a little while for the your body to adjust and for the scale to show progress. Even if you stay off the scale, I would definitely start tracking if you haven't already just to get an idea of where you're at on a typical day with carbs, calories, and protein.Great job on drinking/eating separately! You'll do great, just give your body some time. You're also in that range of 2-4 weeks where the scale gets weird anyway.

    Cheated already!

Just keep truckin. That's all anyone can do
  15. I looked into WLS almost 7 years ago, but decided to wait due to several factors including wanting to try again on my own, insurance, and worrying about potential side effects (loose skin especially). I am glad I waited because when I decided I needed to do it, I did not have the same doubt and second-guessing. The 6 month requirement was very helpful to me. I learned a lot more about specific goals I could work towards that made the transition much easier after surgery. I lost 50 pounds preop. You can always keep going to the appointments, but if you decide you're not ready or that you can keep working on it on your own, then you don't actually have to schedule. Don't push yourself into anything if you're not ready.
  16. Celebrating being OVERWEIGHT!!! That also means that I am in the 170s, where I spend a lot of time in high school. I'm my "high school skinny" lol. 39 pounds to go til my stretch goal. :)

Awesome!! I hope to be just OVERWEIGHT, too, in the near future. Most of my high school years were spent in the 160s-170s, too.

  17. I still go through phases (currently in one) where I just don't feel like eating. I think it's partly a matter of just being bored with my usual rotation. It normally only lasts a week or so and then I'm back to normal. I do kind of follow a schedule to eat by. I eat once right after I walk in the morning, once between 11-1, once between 4-6, and once between 7-9. It can change slightly, but I almost always will eat 4x a day. I'm about 6.5 months out and I haven't added back much veg/fruit. I'm going to stick to the Protein diet for a while longer.
  18. In my dreams preop I would dream that I could run for blocks and blocks without getting winded. It was kind of like flying. I enjoy a bit of running now, but I have a long way to go before I could run too far without getting tired.
  19. Both the sugar and the carbonation would automatically make it an "avoid" according to the directions I got post-op. I would avoid it. There are other options like crystal light and mio that are zero calorie and non carbonated if you want something with flavor. One thing I really like is True Lemon. It is just lemon crystals in little sweet-n-low type packets. It is non-caloric and it doesn't have artificial sweeteners. https://www.truelemon.com/true-lemon-cooking They also make a product called True Lemonade which is sweetened. Typically in stores I can only find True Lemonade, which I've never used, so I order the True Lemon online. I may be looking in the wrong place because I know some stores do sell it.

    Help carb over load.

It's great that you're hitting your Water, as others have said. Do you track in an app like MFP? That is a huge help to me so that I know how many carb, fat, and Protein grams I'm getting. My doctor's recommendation is to keep it to 50 g or less of carbs a day, although I rarely go any more than 30, and usually it's more like 15-18. I think that could be a big help as your are working toward cutting back on carbs. As you work on cutting them out, you can give yourself mini goals along the way. The first couple days limit to 50, then the next few days keep it to 40, and keep going until you are where you want them to be. Also, I recently tried turkey and cheese roll ups, and they did not fill me up either. I weighed out 2 oz of meat and 1 of cheese and it got rid of the hunger, but didn't give me the "full" signal(i was using lunch meat turkey). Maybe try some real grilled or baked chicken or cook up a lean hamburger patty. Those both get me to full. Good luck!
  21. Mine set a 50g limit, but I normally keep it well under that. If I have a Protein Bar, I might hit 30, but when I don't it normally comes out to about 15-18g/day.

    Portable snacks?

My snack ideas are cheese sticks, nuts (preportioned), P3s (it's like a lunchable with only meat, cheese, and nuts), Jerky, and Protein bars. I mostly take some cheese to eat in the car on the way to work and then drink a shake for lunch. I don't get a chance to eat between Breakfast and lunch.

    Apple torso and chicken legs!

I think it just happens where it happens. You may find that it will shift eventually. Just keep on going cuz it's the only way to find out where it will come from next.

I have to eat my words......

I always thought low carb eating was just another "diet" or trend. But for my body it actually does work. (I probably never tried it before because I just couldn't imagine life without bread, lol).
