Thought I'd share this here since y'all are more likely to appreciate it :-) My fiancé made me dinner last night :-) He cut out tiny tortillas (he doesn't realize the carbs, it's all thought that counts ) -MM

I'm four weeks post surgery, down almost 20lbs since surgery day. I feel almost normal, it's awesome. I can eat whatever I want (but don't because, seriously, bread & pasta just fill me up without any protein). I stick to protein and veg and protein shakes. I can drink water but only with a LOT of Ice (or it makes me nauseous). I can gulp 3-5 gulps at a time. Eating is still trial and error... I think I'm not done and then I'm too full and it's uncomfortable. I quit my antacid pills last week and I haven't needed them. My energy is normal, I have no pain anywhere. My total weight lost since 4/8 is almost 30lbs and two ladies in the lunch room noticed today, which was nice :-) I just thought I'd give a little update to those of you about to have surgery or at the very beginning :-) -MM

I found a winner! 60 grams of protein and excellent taste!

I use this too! I have vanilla and chocolate. I also have the click brand (amazon) decaf mocha and I mix the vanilla and coffee for breakfast :-) -MM -
Did anyone get in all of their fluids and protein the first week?
MammaMac replied to ChavaBling's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was 4/23 and I can finally gulp water! Maybe three good gulps at a time . For me though, my water has to be ice cold. I hated ice before surgery and now without it, water makes me nauseous. I try and get 40oz at work and the rest at home plus 20oz of protein drink for breakfast. Here's the thing, for the first few weeks, just do your best. It's so hard to drink or take pills or sleep. You just have to do what you can do and hang in there. Good luck! -MM -
Just fyi my doc said that if my sodium got too low it would make me dizzy. I was buying all low sodium products and they said I make sure I was getting enough salt. -MM

4/23 for me too... Down 24lbs since preop diet. Been stalled all week, ever since I came off of full liquids. I think my body is storing the heck out of food after having not had any in weeks. Pretty stoked about 24lbs so I am just being patient and careful. -MM

Thursday Fun--Does your sleeve have a nickname?
MammaMac replied to hopeliveshere's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I refer to mine as the tiny dinosaur because it makes all kinds if tiny dinosaur noises. My fiancé thinks it's super funny :-) -MM -
I feel an ache in me back too, on the left side! I didn't realize that was fullness! Good to know! I also hiccup! Lol -MM

How Long Does A Stall Last
MammaMac replied to granddiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stalled here too for 7 days now. I'm 3 weeks postop. -MM -
Ok so what's more important, the water intake, vitamin intake or the protein consumption?
MammaMac replied to KeeWee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I also have a pill container. Mine is for the whole week and has am and pm partitions. I take gummy vitamins but my gallbladder pills and acid pills are actual pills. I used to only like my water at room temp now I need ice and a straw. I drink my protein shake at 7am and have hot tea and water at work. I shoot for 30oz at work. In the evening, I shoot for another 32... It's hard! But it's getting easier :-) As to your friend, I wouldn't compare because everyone is different and while I'm sure everything seeming so easy for her is frustrating for you, remember the goal is being healthy :-) -MM -
Ladies: How much loss 1st week?
MammaMac replied to Comeflywithme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm six days at the same weight :-/ it sucks. I likes seeing that pound disappear every day. I lost 16 pounds in the two weeks postop (before this stall started) and 6 preop. My current weight is 227.6. I'm hoping that this stall will end soon, it's discouraging. -MM -
At my two week appt last week and I'm down 24lbs total, 16 I the two weeks since surgery. Gas pains are gone (use a straw!! OMG makes all the difference!) and physically I feel fine. I'm doing a lot of learning and adjusting and while my soft foods weren't supposed to start until Wednesday, I started Saturday. Why? Because I finally realized the reason I was nauseous was because I was hungry! I had, over the course of the weekend, some scrambled egg, beans, mashed potato, malt o meal, and chicken (weird because I didn't eat chicken prior to surgery). I finally felt better!! Of course you can hardly eat anything! Like less than half a cup and I'm mega full (which feels different than it used to)... But I finding hungry again a few hours later. How often do y'all eat? Anyway, it's nice to feel kind of human again :-) -MM

Try using a straw to drink. It does go away, I promise :-) -MM

Question, please tell me if this has happened to you!

Yesterday was an exceptionally hard day for me to get anything down. I managed about 18 ounces of protein drink, 8 ounces of tea and maybe 3 ounces of soup. The soup was the last thing that I had at around 7p. I went to bed and woke up at 4am coughing and choking on bile. I went to the bathroom and threw up bile for about ten minutes. Has this happened to anyone else? -MM -

I'm not banded :-) I have the sleeve. -MM -
I'm a week postop and I can't take a sip of water without my stomach rumbling and sending painful burps up through my chest. Does this go away soon? It's the worst in the morning. I have to sit down two or three times while getting ready to leave just to breath my way through it. -MM

Well it FINALLY subsided!! Saturday (10 days postop) I was determined to get my 64oz in (I hadn't up to that point) so I walked and drank and cleaned and walked and drank and cleaned and walked and drank my way to almost 100oz! I was so proud and happy :-) The next day, I realized tag painful gas whenever I drank anything was gone. I feel like a brand new person. I was honestly having so many regrets thinking that was going to be my life. Sunday & today I got all of my protein shakes in and tonight I made homemade potato & broccoli soup and ate probably about 4oz. My tummy was rumbling but I just tried to go slow and not overdo it. My energy feels like its back to normal too :-) So happy! -MM

Sleeveless in Seattle: OMG! I think that might be it!! I was taking my pill in the morning but mornings are rough for me as far as getting anything down so I switched it to nights, before bed. I will switch it back in the morning. Worth a shot. -MM -

Thanks for all the advice. I'm on liquids only right now but I'll remember the chewing bit when I finally get to have solids again :-) I made myself a protein shake this morning and I'm working on getting that down right now. Hopefully I can since I've hardly had any calories in the last week and a half. -MM -

I have my 2 week post op on Thursday but I think I'll email them today so I can hear back on Monday as to whether I should be on the pills or not. Having never had any issues like this before I've been reading about it ever since I posted this morning... This article was interesting: http://chriskresser.com/the-hidden-causes-of-heartburn-and-gerd As a rule I prefer no medication and all natural approaches when possible. But of course not to the point I my own detriment. Since my surgery I have had so much gas. I burp like crazy after almost ever bite of anything or sip of anything that enters my body. It gives me chest pains and stomach pains. It's awful. I can't even get close to 64 ounces. Last night was scary and awful. I've never ha anything like that happen to me before and is be happy to never ever have it happen again. -MM -

I'm currently taking 40mg of omeprazole (Prilosec) nightly. Presurgery, I didn't have any problems with acid. Could taking the pills be causing the problem? -MM -
How soon can i go back to work, post sleeve?
MammaMac replied to stephne42's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a desk job. I was sleeved on Wednesday and back at work Monday. -MM -
Surgery was the 23rd and I was on clear liquids for the first week and full liquids this week and next. Full liquids meant soups! Cream of anything soups :-) also I've had a few bites of yogurt and some cheddar cheese. I have the same problem with gas in my chest every single time I ingest anything. I'm losing my mind. Because of that I'm seriously struggling to get in 40oz a day of everything combined. -MM

I'm a little sore on my stomach but it gets better daily. As to my fluids, I have so much gas pain when I drink things. It's like super painful as burps work their way up, I hate it. I'm struggling to get 30-40 ounces of liquids in. -MM
