Having Surgery August 26, nervous, mad and excited
Lu Ann replied to j_war06's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am so happy for you. I am a mother too, and believe me when I say, your family will not think you are selfish. We will do anything for our children, especially if it is for health reason. Just think, one day, you can pay them back for all of this, if you want. Good luck with your surgery, and keep us posted. I have been praying for you, and I must admit, a little worried about you. Keep your chin up, and know this is the beginning of a new life! A heathly life. As far as the surgery, do not worry, you will be fine. If you have read all the posts here, you know exactly what to expect. Blessings my child, -
With me, it always seems to start at the top and work down. My face and neck look thinner, then there goes the girls...etc. I don't care really where it starts, just want it all gone.

Glad you are home and healing well. You will surely feel swollen for a few days. I looked and felt pregnant! I think I even walked that way..lol But, give yourself a little time, and it is all worth it. Congratulations, again!

well it's over and I'm home from the hosp.
Lu Ann replied to mayflower419's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
They are right, it gets better every day! I had problems with gas for about 9 days out, but I found out I wasn't walking enough. So important to do that. Do get down on yourself, it is too early for that. When you see the pounds slipping away, you will know you did the right thing. I promise! Walk, Walk, hugs, -
Thanks for the website, ordered the sample! I love something cruncy, this soup is for the birds..

Showboatgirl, Don't let people steal your dream. I am 54, and my BMI was only 34. All I heard from friends and family was, "your not heavy, why are you doing this?"..... At 215#'s I didn't look as heavy as I felt. Both knees have been paritally replaced, clothes felt terrible, and I turned into a hermit! I made up my mind after seeing the seminar that the band was for me. It is a tool to use for weight loss. The years of yo-yo dieting was driving me nuts! Lose, 20 pounds, gain back 25...etc. Ya'll know the routine, I am sure. But, this is forever! I was banded on 7/20th, and have lost 15#'s....(2 weeks) I already feel wonderful, and it is only the beginning. You make this decision for YOU, and I don't think you will be disapointed. If I hadn't done something, I would surely be out of control a year from now. I am very happy and satisfied with my choice. Good luck with you decision, and keep reading this forum, these ladies are awesome, and will not steer you wrong. Blessings!

9 days post op - still swollen left side????
Lu Ann replied to DeeJay's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am nine days out and still have a very sore bloated left side. I too feel like I am carrying a baby there, even use a pillow to prop it at night. Gas has been a real problem with me, and nothing has helped, but time. I keep telling myself, it will get better..it will get better... -
Anyone banded by Dr. Naaman in Houston?
Lu Ann replied to mypast_e's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have a Houston surgeon, but have never heard of Naaman. I found this website.. http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/bariatric+surgeon+testimonials+Adam+Naaman+dcs+Adam+Naaman+dcs_20.html Must be him... Good luck!! -
Let us know how you are doing! Remember, walk, walk, walk...

Hi Colleen, Congratulations! Sounds like you are doing much better than me. Weight is coming off, down 14 #'s, but I have had the worse post-op of my life! Trapped gas, is killing me...yeah, yeah, I know, I have taken all the OTC meds, and walk, walk, walk, but it isn't going away very fast. Seems like it is a little better in the a.m., but by night, I am dying again!! Anyway, you go girl! Glad you are up and running..... Maybe I am too old for this?
-
I was banded Wed. 7/20 and everything was great until the gas trap set in on Sunday, Monday and today....yes, I have taken every OTC med available, walked..etc..to no avail. I cannot even lay on my left side. My whole abdomin is killing me. I called the doctor's office, and they said Di-gel and walk..yadda yadda... I know that! Help, I am dying here!

SuSu, I see you are close to my age. I had bad thoughts at first, because of my age...but still wanted this extra weight off. Glad you are doing good.
-
Hi ya'll, I was banded yesterday too! In some pain where port is, but not bad. I am so glad it is over. The sugery center gave us a hardback journal to keep, I thought that was awesome. I was going to do that anyway, so was excited to keep it. Praying for the rest of the July bandsters!
-
Please add Kim McNeely to the July band dates... 7/20 Thanks!!

Chat Room?? Why isn't there anyone in there?
Lu Ann replied to wannabskinny2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Me too, I very seldom find anyone there. Oh well, I will keep checking. -
I agree, lose him. I think you are just holding on because you think you can't get any better. Believe me, the ONLY thing worse than wanting someone and not having them, is having someone you don't want. Be thankful you haven't made it legal. When your self esteem starts building, your nerve will also. Tell him to make like a tree, and LEAVE! Good luck,

Help! Does anyone know of a fill doctor in Texas, preferably Houston area, that will do fills for Mx. patients? I need to know very quickly...I would drive anywhere at this point. Thanks!!

Hi all, I just got back from Houston, with my consult with Dr. Spivak...The nurse and insurance person there were absolutely positive that BC/BS would NOT pay for my band. :cry My BMI is 34, and I both of my knees have been paritally replaced. I even had my orthopedic surgeon write a letter that if I lost 65#, which would put me at 150, it would be very benifical to my osteoarthritis. I take two medications for GERD, high chol. high tri. etc...but none of these, I was told, were considered life threatening. I don't have asthma, or sleep apnea, etc. I know, I know, I should be counting my blessings that I don't have these things, and I do...but I have had my heart set on this procedure....already paid for the psy. and nutrition eval..for nothing..$275.00) So, I will have to be a self pay....and I don't know if I can put this kind of money on myself...I am afraid it would be a burden on my family. But, very good friend, Kim, who went with me, and is having the band done also...told me to pray about it. If God says it is OK, then nothing can go wrong. That I will find the $ somewhere. I don't mean to whine....really... just a little bummed out today. By the way, the office staff, and Dr. Spivak are awesome! Very pleasant and caring people. Praise God for that. Ya'll keep up the good work, I am proud of all of you!

I may be going to Tijuana for the surgery, but cannot find a doctor here that will do fills. Anyone know one in Southeast Texas..or Houston? Thanks,
-
I just called the doctor's office, and he won't do fill's for anyone banded in Mexico. Just FYI
-
Thank you all for your support. I do feel better about it, and I am going forward with the band.
