    Out of work

I took a week. Everybody is different but I was told to take a week. Glad I did. I felt fine but needed to detox from all the chemicals pumped into my body from surgery and pain med which I didn't have to take much of. Then I needed to make sure I was getting enough nutrients from the liquid fast post op. So a week worked well for me.

    Full liquid diet recipie

Smoothie Recipe from my nutritionist: Cup of Greek yogurt (lots of protein) Milk (I use unsweetened almond milk) your choice of fruit (I use blueberries - great nutritional value) A hand full of spinach for added nutritional value. you won't taste it. I throw in a little chopped ginger root. Its good for the tummy and gives your smoothie a kick. I also sprinkle in a little organic cinnamon. gives additional flavor and cinnamon is good for a variety of ailments High blood pressure, inflammation.......etc..... Happy Trails......
  6. Just ate my first bite of solid food. Egg with cheese. Didn't finish the whole egg which in itself is progress as I usually have two or three. Still doesn't feel like its gone down and I feel a bit of acid in my throat but so far so good. Will keep ya posted..

  7. 747heavy this is good information regarding the post surgical regiment. 800-1000 calories and 10% of that Protein. I was just told to drink 64ozs of low cal fluids (get in the protein). I do have a list of what I should an should not have but a count is good. I was ok'd to start on solid foods a week post op, a little nervous about that but I see you continue with liquids then puree then ease into food. sounds like a good plan. Thanks for sharing

    4 days post op

Congratulations.. I was banded 8 days ago. All is well so far. Still on liquids and a bit hesitant about going to the solids. Welcome aboard the bandwagon.
  9. I liked what you said about your relationship with food but as with any relationship we have to learn to establish boundaries. Obviously, the boundaries I had established with food were blurred. I wasn't sure about the surgery either. Took me four years to get on board. I had my first consultation four years ago, since then I lost and gained back and additional 30 lbs. It's like going back to and old boyfriend/girlfriend, they may have made you miserable at but they were comfortable (in that you knew what to expect) and available. I've been banded for a week. Haven't had food yet and a little nervous about the process of finding out what I can and cannot eat. One thing I would recommend is that you find a good surgeon and find out what type of support they offer post surgery. My has been awesome. He checks in with me daily. If I need anything or have any questions I can contact him or one of his team. Good luck with your decision.

    2 Month Bandiversary!

Thanks for sharing the positives. Banded a week now and doing good but must say the problems experienced by others can cause the fear of what if to settle in.
  11. Also keep in mind that your body had a lot drugs pumped into it from surgery and if you're still taking pain meds that could cause you to not feel yourself. Ourn bodie will detox from the surgery meds, pain meds and not to mention all the crap we filled ourselves up with pre op. But as a rule of thumb stay in close contact with you surgeon or someone from his office. My surgeon sent me an email asking for an update and has continued to do so for the past week.

    The Fickle Pouch

My biggest concern is finding the right foods and amounts without getting ill. James, thanks for the info. How were you able to pick the right foods from the beginning? Iambeautiful: keep in mind that loosing fat and building muscle may not register on the scale the way we want it to so, if others are seeing you must be doing something right.
  13. This is another vote for ginger tea. I used it to settle my stomach even before the pre op diet. If mints work for you, try sugar free mints. There is also a peppermint tea that works well for digestion. I had to do the Adkins diet with all Protein to shrink my liver as well, drank plenty of ginger tea.

    Band me NOW!

Best wishes to you. This time last week I was in recovery. You'll do great.
  15. Anyone out there dealing with sleep Apnea with a CPAP. What issues did you encounter post op.

    1. Ginger Snaps

      Ginger Snaps

      I'm pre-op so I can't say how I'll do after. Sorry...

      Hi,

Only thing I noticed post op is that I often awake with a dry mouth and have to sip some water. Not sure what is causing this. I'm down a lot of weight so maybe I need to have the pressure checked? Could be that it is venting out my mouth when I sleep and drying it out. Having my CPAP was a requirement for my surgery. Best of luck to you!

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in 1994 and once I got on the machine (then the bipap) I was never able to sleep without it again (well once when I lost a considerable about of weight I was able to fall asleep and stay asleep for 1/2 hour). So whenever I go into the hospital and know I'll be under anesthesia I let everybody know so there won't be any Oops. During surgical prep everyone I came into contact with was informed. But between the one week preop diet and 1 week post surgery, I lost 20lbs and was able to have my cpap pressure reduced 2cm's.

    what a great day

ooh, sorry to hear that. Not chewing my food good enough is one of my biggest fears. My post op instructions say to do only liquids for the first 7 days. I was banded on 4/11. I've had cravings to eat something and made bean soup. Then I blended it. I hope you feel better soon but, you ma want to contact your doctor.

    Need motivation

Well one of the greatest excuse reducers I've found is YouTube. Yeah, I can do a search and find any type of exercise I want. I'm 6 days post op and found Leslie Sansone's walk off the pounds. Great exercise? She has a 1,2,3,4,5 mile walks. I also purchased a weighted hula hoop from walmart on line. It was $19.99. It even comes with the workout video. Should help with your waistline. Happy Trails.
  18. Interesting, thanks for sharing. I believe once the nomenclature of disease is established the potential treatments follow.
  19. I agree the chewables do get old fast. I'm ready to just crush my old pills and swallow.
  20. I saw my surgeon twice before the surgery. He gave be a list of pre-op requirements and once that was done we scheduled the surgery. He was opened however, to any questions I had at anytime. I had his phone numbers and cell numbers as well as the rest of his team and stayed in constant contact whenever needed.

    Today show "skinny meals"

Yep...Mr too. If it was good didn't matter of I had enough it was so I have run for more. I realize that part of this journey is dealing with the psychological journey. No more see it and eat it....sensory hunger...time for me to get my psyche involved in this process I saw the segment and liked his premise. Might need to tweak it.
  22. I've been banded for for days. I couldn't sleep either.
