    Frustrated - Water intake?!

Thanks for the responses:) I will just have to stop steering about it and do the best I can... And the idea of using the colour of my wee as a guide sounds like a good plan... I work full time in a busy office so I can't have a timer going off every 45 mins to prompt me to drink water (only coz it would be distracting for myself and highly irritating:). I will just keep a bottle on my desk and sip sip when I can:)

    Anybody from mandurah in WA?

Do you have any specific info you would like to know...? I had mine done by SJOG Murdoch by Dr Watson coz he had a lesser out of pocket expense and that hospital was the closest to home so my babies could visit n not have a mammoth drive afterwards with daddy n the nanny:) Funny I started this process back in 2009 but at the time had the wrong health cover so had to wait. Then got pregnant in 2010 and again in 2012 so only got back on the wagon end of 2013.... But back then I was considering lap banding and an so glad life made me wait coz the sleeve seems better suited to my lifestyle and I HATE needles so the idea of frequent band fills was giving me nightmares. I like that the sleeve has less post op interference from the surgeon Plus I was more settled with the idea of having a permanent reduction to my stomach size than the idea of having a foreign object inside me to adjust & control the band! Anyway, so far it hasn't all been a bed of roses but I lost 7kgs in the first week, and now lose maybe 1-2kg per week. But iv also started trying to do 30mins a day on my treadmill (again purchased in 2009 and being used for the first time now:). I will warn you though that the post op diet can be difficult to adhere to coz the time before surgery u r eating normal food then immediately afterwards it's a 1-2 week liquid diet, then 2 weeks of puree before you get back to normal food while everyone else in your household continues to eat as normal... It's a mental challenge:) Are you doing any sort of pre-op diet before surgery???
  3. In need of some advice....I'm really struggling with this purée diet thing and have started seriously sneaking in normal food in my final week... Granted I only have 1 week of purée left to go, I'm just surprised that I can manage it with no issues plus I now feel like I am hungry all the time?? (like iv stretched my pouch) whereas before I could survive hours in between the liquid shakes and stuff??? Is this normal or have I messed something up already..... When does the "restriction" and feeling of fullness kick in or am I just doomed to fail....? And had a chocolate relapse with Easter so that is not helping either....I'm feeling seriously depressed now

Hungry often in early days?! Help!

Thanks for the response Macman. I think I just needed to hear that so I could get back on the saddle, keep doing the best I can and stop making excuses. I can do this!!! I just need a bit of support or a kick in the butt once in a while Plus hearing someone else's story and similar experiences helps put things in perspective

  9. Hi Will, I'm only 4 weeks out and feeling the same way you do.... I'm really struggling with this purée diet thing and have started seriously sneaking in normal food in my final week... Granted I only have 1 week of purée left to go, I'm just surprised that I can manage it with no issues plus I now feel like I am hungry all the time?? (like iv stretched my pouch) whereas before I could survive hours in between the liquid shakes and stuff. So I'm really wondering if this Is this normal or have I messed something up already..... Not at all sure when the "restriction" and feeling of fullness is meant to kick in or if am I just doomed to fail....? And had a chocolate relapse with Easter so that is not helping either....I'm also feeling depressed now

    Anybody from mandurah in WA?

Hi, I got sleeved on 31st March but am in Wellard-Kwinana not Mandurah.... Where are you having your surgery done and who is your surgeon? I am happy to share my experiences this far if you are interested:) Good luck

    Perth Sleevers?

That's is so inspiring, and I am so happy for you:) do you mind sharing how you went in the earlier weeks? I'm really struggling with this purée diet thin and have started seriously sneaking in normal food... Granted I only have 1 week of purée left to go, I'm just surprised that I can mane it with no issues plus I now feel like I am hungry all the time?? Like iv stretched my pouch whereas before I could survive hours in between the liquid shakes and stuff??? Is this normal or have I messed something up already.....
  12. As anyone else's surgeon told them not to join an gym or get a personal trainer because that will slow down the weight loss??? That's what I got told and I'm finding that a bit strange.....
  13. Yeah I clarified with him and he said the reason they suggest staying clear of personal trainers at gyms is because they can also make diet recommendations that are contrary to those specific for Sleevers so this may cause people to stray from the Sleeve diet.... He said if u wanna join a gym to do cardio etc then I can do that and it may help me lose more weight.
  14. So I was sleeved on 31st March and for 2 weeks now I've struggled with the liquid diet coz It wasn't very satisfying and it didn't feel like I was eating anything filling.... I also kept over filling myself with the liquid coz I'm still trying to learn when to stop but feel like my body gives me mixed signals.... Only time I realise iv had too much is when the pain and discomfort starts. But atleast Iv lost 7kgs/15 pounds and love that aspect but it's very hard being on a liquid diet when everyone else in the house is still eating normal and delicious smelling food:) anyway just sharing my experience and hoping it will get easier as I progress to each next stage. Tomorrow I get to start on purée so yay!

    Plateau

I agree with you hey. I will be asking him to explain better when I see him today
  16. Thanks for the responses. I'm onto purée now but funnily enough am still swapping one main meal for a liquid option. Gotta finish all these shakes and soups so they don't get wasted:)
  17. Tried my first go at the purée on Friday, now I'm past the 2 week liquid diet ,and had the worst night if my life! Had such terrible heart burn and cramps and couldn't sleep one wink! All I has was puréed chicken and red kidneys beans... I'm back on liquids coz I'm scared to get a repeat experience.... Does anyone know if I was meant to start on puréed veggies first then work my way up to meat??

    Anyone struggle with starting puree?

I would say try to stick to the recommended diet as best you can but I too cheated once or twice. Being able to tolerate it doesn't mean it won't do your new stomach any harm. Plus you could try switching up the range of liquids you are having. By week 2 u are atleast on nourishing liquids not just clear so try different shakes/ flavours or different brands and see how u go. I really like the Optifast strawberry flavour and even though I am now allowed purée I still have one of those per day... Atleast till I finish the box I bought:)
  19. Thank you all so much for your responses. I have really been struggling with the whole no gym concept coz I too was excited to start working out once the weight started falling off. Maybe he meant no strenuous exercise until I am all healed up... But I have my first post op appointment today so I will definitely be asking him to clarify this point.... My work also pays half for gym memberships so I am definitely keen to join!

    Plateau

Sounds strange even to me but he is the expert so I'm staying aways from the gym. I'm 3.5 weeks post op and have lost 20lbs to date

My surgeon specifically told me before surgery that fuming and doing weights would slow down the weight loss process... So he advised not to do any of that till 10-12 months post op if I wanted to lose more weight and fast.
  22. Yeah my hubby keeps telling me maybe I started the purée too early, but I'm going based on the advice of my dietician and I am sick to death of Resolve, Resource Chicken broth and jelly.... At least Optifast tastes nice- just the strawberry flavour though lol

    Gastric sleeve surgery 3-25-14

Hi...I got sleeved 31.3.14 and I was allowed to rendition to soft food/ purée after 7 days clear liquids and 7 days nourishing... How long have you been on clear fluids if you got sleeved on the 25th??

    Anyone struggle with starting puree?

It was very hard coz I felt like drinking gave me nausea even from just one sip so I had to ask the nurses to keep giving me anti nausea meds top ups. By the time I got home it had settled down a bit but was still hard. For me I found drinking ice cold water was easier than tap warm water. And the shakes could take anywhere from 1-3 hours to finish....

    Anyone struggle with starting puree?

Oh thanks for that. I will use that as my guide also. Got my post surgery appointment on Thursday so I will also ask if they have a detailed listing like that coz it would definitely be very helpful.... Or I will have to keep asking you for pics of the stages you are on...
