Anybody from mandurah in WA?
YummyMummy101 replied to Gesined's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh he did my sleeve as well and I went through Nikki Cummings as my dietician, she is just the next floor down from Dr Watson's rooms and she was very understanding and helpful.... Didn't have to do that diet though... But like I said I transferred from considering the band to the sleeve so I switched dieticians and surgeons so maybe I just slipped the cracks for the diet... Didn't do and I think I turned out alright:) it's been 6 months so at and I am down to 79kgs from 106 so that's been life changing already... I can do so much more now and I feel much better about myself too... -

I shouldn't think so... But I'd just do e best you can and the rest will sort itself out. I heard the need for that depends on te surgeon and your pre-surgery weight. First doctor I saw when I was considering the band insisted on the 2 week optifast first, but the doctor who ended up doing my sleeve didn't need me to do that diet... So I don't think it makes a big difference unless you have a larger than normal liver or like I said depends on your pre surgery weight... I was 106kgs before mine in March and I didn't have to do the diet... Hope that helps:) I'm also in Wellard BTW... Anyway, good luck on the 8th:) -

Sorry for taking so long to respond G. I wholeheartedly agree with what Ozikiwi said. My dietician actually said any less than 1000 calories per day makes your body think you are in starvation mode and it starts to store fat. You need to up your calories if you want to lose more weight. I lost 15kgs in the first few weeks on a 1100 calorie per day diet. So you may find upping your calories may help you too:) -

Yup, I used to get that 'stuck in my throat' sensation, you just need to eat slower maybe and smaller spoonfuls. I still sometimes struggle with that but it's getting a bit easier:) -

Iv not heard of dumping with the sleeve. That only happens with gastric bypass i believe. So you can cross that off your list if things to worry about... I also never had any vomiting or infections do fingers crossed neither do you! -

Same here only me and my husband know ! I told everyone else I had oesophagul reflux surgery to explain my hospital stay and the need for a liquid diet etc. My surgeon does both so any busy bodies who googled him based on my medical certificate would have found he does that as well:) -

I am going through the same now that I'm on full solids. The weight loss has slowed to about .5-1kg per week. Which is not anything to write home about but still great for me.. Also I like the idea of the weight falling off gradually rather than the drastic loss caused by Roux En Y gastric bypass coz it's less likely to draw the wrong kind of attention from people you don't want to share your sleeve journey with. I'm sure there are many out there who think this option is the lazy way out who don't appreciate how hard this whole process is and also the risks involved... I am quite happy to shed 1Kg per fortnight and be at my goal weight by the end of the year with no silly questions asked and not falling under scrutiny -

4 months and 1 day
YummyMummy101 replied to cbwalker79's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thank you for your post and the inspiration. Your story shows exactly what can be achieved if you put your mind to it. Do you mind me asking what your diet has been like? Do you ever have take out or eat candy or deserts? And did you have to join a gym or work out regularly? I am a month out and would love to look like you in 3 months if I can. So any tips and tricks would be most appreciated.... -

My stomach n appetite restriction is only now really starting to kick in and I'm surprised by how little I can eat and feel full. Once that happens for you it will stop you from failing this time. Just stay away from high calorie liquids and I'm sure you'll do fine. We can be SOR VSG support buddies n keep each other on track:) I've got a terrible sweet tooth which hasn't gone away or reduced since surgery and I'm really struggling to resist. Used Easter as an excuse to eat loads of chocolate that I'm still finishing off now... So we all do little acts of self sabotage but having a greater awareness that these habits are bad and wanting to change even without the will to fully do so is a step in the right direction I think -

I'm just over 4 weeks out and have lost 13kgs.... Before surgery my surgeon n I agreed that losing 20-25kgs would put me at an comfortable weight... Not the ideal though as per BMI (if have to lose 30-40kgs for that); but I'm happy with that goal.... So being halfway there after just the first month is great:) -

Hi Gisined, My surgeon said the need for a pre-op diet depends on your starting weight and BMI. I didn't have to do one coz my BMI was under 36.... But you can check with your dietician as well... I just think the surgeon decides if you need the pre-op diet though to shrink your liver... With eth post op diet its very hard to figure out what sensations are hunger... so I don't know what I was feeling. At times I just drank ( coz you will likely be on a liquid diet for 1-2 weeks) coz it was lunch time or dinner time and so I did not get dehydrated. I am 4 weeks out now and still trying to learn what my body is trying to tell me.. I agree with other posters who say initially you may just succumb to head hunger vs. actual hunger:) I think given VSG is a permanent adjustment to your portion sizes the likelihood of failure is less but you still need to tr give it your all. Try not to overload on bad foods if you can but a treat once a week I think is ok.. Then you can exercise if you have time or energy but my surgeon said I could join a gym if I really wanted to so long as I remember that it is the reduced portions causing the weight loss not the exercise per say. The exercise may just reduce the excess skin issue if that is a problem for anyone. And try to stay positive as well. Nothing is unachievable without a bit of effort and if you believe in yourself:) -
How does anyone keep up their fluids with all these rules about waiting 30 mins before solid food and 45 mins after a meal. By the time I wait that long iv forgotten to drink anything at all?!? And if I spend my day keeping my fluids up I want be able to eat anything solid coz I will never have the 30min gap between my last drink to enable me to eat??? How does everyone else do it??? And does 1 sip mean I need to wait another 30-45 mins???
