  1. Yep, I'm right there with you I think it's because we've failed at everything else (weight wise) and we don't know what success is - at least I dont. But, I do know that I cant do it by myself, that I have tried a million times. So, the Sleeve is what I'm gonna do. What I'm hoping for is that eventually I will be able to have a bite or 2 of my favorite things, but the restriction from surgery will keep me from binging - which is really what caused me to get where I am now. My surgery is on Friday and Im sooo looking forward to this new chapter!
  2. My day is next friday the 22nd and I cannot wait! Im antsy with anticipation. But, it's strange because at the same time, I cant wrap my brain around how much my life is going to change. I don't think I will even be able to until it actually happens. I have my pre op stuff tomorrow and plan on asking a million questions. But, I swear, I took 12 weeks of classes at Kaiser and now cant seem to remember what im able to eat in each stage, Im so overwhelmed! Anyone in the same boat? Advice?

when did you go back to work?

Well I got my surgery date and its Aug. 22nd! That gives me just one day shy of 2 weeks before starting back to work. I have to make this happen, im a teacher, too and just can't take the first week of school off. Thankfully, the first day is a thursday (minimum day schedule) then Friday is our early out day, so even if im really tired or whatever, I only have to make it thru 2 half days, basically, then get 2 days off before going back to full days on Monday. Im so excited!!

    Calling all August Sleevers!

I got my surgery date! August 22nd! Im super excited right now but I feel like Ive totally forgotten what Im supposed to be able to eat and drink before and after surgery! I plan on sitting down and reviewing everything tomorrow and then going shopping. I dont have to go on a big pre surgery diet... its odd that so many of you do! And 3 weeks? yikes that sounds like hell. I have to do 2 days of nothing but liquids and then nothing past midnight the night before the surgery.

    August Sleevers Check In

Hello! I just got my date - August 22nd at Kaiser south bay with Dr. Zane - I saw at least one other person having it at the same hospital. Im super excited and a little over whelmed. Despite having taken the classes, I now cant seem to remember all that I learned! I plan on having a date with my bariatrics binder from class tomorrow! Looking forward to my new life!
  7. Ok so Im about half way through my classes and if all goes well I will be sleeved in August. I have been on top of everything and every hoop is being jumped through as soon as I'm given the chance. My blood panels, sleep study etc - all done. HOWEVER, I cannot seem to get my head in the game to lose the weight I need in order to have the surgery. Im so frustrated. I mean, part of the reason Im doing this is because my life long battle with weight and dieting my whole life has left me just flat out unable to do it anymore. I dont know what to do. Im thinking that maybe I need to pound the Protein and do a liquid diet for a couple of weeks to jumpstart myself. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? And what type of Protein powder do you prefer?
  8. So, Im just starting my journey but I am already trying to wrap my brain around what my new life will be like. I currently have a love/hate relationship with Diet Dr Pepper (or regular, even) and while Im totally on board with giving it up (been wanting to for a while).. the word NEVER doesnt sit well with me. What exactly does that mean? Like, not EVER in my life may I taste a carbonated drink again because it will cause my to explode? lol or what? I totally get the "its not good for you" or "it'll make you feel too full so you wont want to eat" .. I get all that. But like I said, I hate the word "never." And Alcohol... thats another one I've been told to stay away from. Is that forever, too? I dont drink much at all... literally one or two drink a month at a social gathering.. but is that gone now too? Enlighten me, please
  9. Hi all, Im new around here and will be going to the Bariatric Orientation tonight so Im obviously just beginning with the journey. My question is, where can I find reliable statistics on the 3 main weightloss surgeries? I'm trying to read up on stats of complications, etc so I weight all the possibilities. Can you help? Thanks! Lori
  10. The orientation went great! I think Im pretty set on getting the Sleeve. The information last night coupled with the information I've been given here has made me comfortable as can be with my decision. Thanks you guys!
  11. I have Kaiser and live in So Cal. (Long Beach) Anyone else go thru them and live in the area? I would love to know your experience!
  12. Hi, Im new here and Im just beginning this process. I have my Orientation Class at Kaiser on Monday. I have a question... I know that many insurances require that your weight be at a BMI of 35+ for 3 years before surgery.. my question is, what if you at one time had lost weight and went below that BMI for like, a half a second and then shot back up above 35 BMI? Will I be disqualified? Right now I have a BMI of 42 and have for about a year. I was looking back over my weigh ins at Kaiser over the past 3 years and noticed that my weight fluctuated so much!
  13. Ooh thanks for the info, that was helpful. I realize that there are a lot of things to factor in before picking a procedure, etc. But like I said, I'm only starting out and trying to begin researching and thought "risks" was a good start. Thanks again!
  14. I go to Downey Kaiser, too! I am going to the Orientation Class tonight.. Excited and Nervous! How long was the process for you?
