April206 replied to latido's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
Please excuse my ignorance, but what the heck is seitan? Do you make it or buy it or what? -
So excited (shopping NSV)

I am looking for a surgery buddy, and mentor! surgery is 7/29
April206 replied to Cape's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You naughty little thing, you! I'm just teasing. I would LOVE to be your surgery buddy, although I'm having bypass. Surgery is on 8/11. I'm also 42 years old and qualified because I have 2 co-morbidities to go along with my 38 BMI. No one even measured me, they just asked how tall I was! Please don't feel one bit guilty. BMI of 40 vs. 38 is not much, really. The number of hoops we have to jump thru just to get insurance approval is positively silly. I had no clue my insurance would even cover it until I got a sleep study several months ago for some wicked snoring. My sleep doctor made me aware of the possibility. Never thought I weighed enough to even consider it. -
Ah yet more unsolicited advice

How wonderful and glad to hear of someone having a relatively "easy" time of it. Of course nothing about this is easy but I think you know what I mean!

Clothes solution in the meantime....

Brilliant! Thanks for sharing. -
Congratulations! We're all here to minimize your panic I felt a mixture of second guessing and pure joy that it was finally happening. It might help to write down exactly WHY you're having surgery. You know the reasons already but seeing it in black and white can really help. Examples: I want to play with my kids/grandkids without gasping for breath, I want to fit into my skinny clothes, I want to live a longer and healthier life, etc. I'm sure your reasons will outweigh (no pun intended!) your fears.

Welcome back and glad to see you. (That was for Sheri, not the spammer!) lol

We're rooting for ya!

SUBMITTED TO INSURANCE
April206 replied to BetterNai88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My approval came back in less than 2 weeks, it just depends on how quickly they get around to it and if you've jumped through all the hoops already. -
Just got the approval from ins

So happy for you! As a pre-op myself, I can't offer any advice but please keep us all posted. -
Yeah it really stinks when you get b!tch slapped up side the head like that. But that's why we're all here. We all have that "no more!" moment when we make the decision to DO something about it. My moment was when I had to buy 3X shirts. I had fooled myself that I really wasn't THAT big but my clothing tags told me otherwise. Best wishes to you on your journey.

Be sure to discuss with your surgeon because he/she knows your situation best. My surgeon said I would probably be happy with either procedure but since I'm diabetic he recommended the bypass. As he put it, bypass carries more risk but also more reward.

A med tech or lab worker do not have any business asking those questions. It's unprofessional at the very least.

Tomorrow is the day & I am nervous!
April206 replied to nelady's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Good luck to you tomorrow. You might write down what you're looking forward to after surgery (being able to jog or run, shopping in the "regular" section of clothes stores, physical activity with family and friends). It sure helped me be less scared of my upcoming procedure. -
I have only told 2 people (husband and sister)simply because I don't want unsolicited advice from people who don't know what they're talking about or possibly trying to talk me out of it. After it's done, I don't care who knows! When people ask I will be honest because it could lead to others seeking WLS.

For those who didn't tell anyone - betrayed
April206 replied to livingmore's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That's why I don't tell my mom anything! Seriously though, she gave her word and then let you down and that stinks. I would feel betrayed too. -
All In August 2014!
April206 replied to Roostertail2's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Just got my surgery date of 8/11 so add me to the August list lol -
That stinks! Surprised at how many so-called medical professionals will ask such inappropriate questions. For such intrusive questions, I recommend saying "why do you ask?". It's usually enough to get "Nosy Nate" to back off. As for the unsolicited horror stories, I would interrupt immediately with "thanks for your advice, but my doctor and I know this is the right decision for me". Good luck to you!
